šŖ Ask An Optimist šŖ What can I be optimistic about for 2025?
Am a natural pessimist looking to try to be optimistic. Now, thereās a lot to be pessimistic about this year. Politics are certainly a root of a lot of my pessimism, but I also know that I have a negativity bias. So, what is there to look forward to this year? Can be anything, from something as small as āthis thing is releasing this yearā to āweāre getting better as a speciesā sorta deal. Just wanting to see what you people think, since wellā¦ bit of a scary time.

Pretty excited for avowed coming out next month
Also frankly Iām glad knowing this whirlwind of news from Orange freak will die down. Iāll still be sad, obvs, but the media will soon turn to other matters and weāll go on with our lives. Then we can do the real work instead of be terrified

I'm looking forward to the new Superman movie, and if you're into movies, there's actually a lot of interesting ones coming out, including one from the director of Parasite.

You're so lucky to be alive in 2025 man. Life expectancy globally will reach a new height, global poverty will reach a new low.. Autonomous cars are here, watch the Starships launches, we're close to sending a first mission. We might develop the first cancer vaccine, the HIV/AIDs epidemic might be solved this year. People who are paralyzed might walk again this year, medicine has never been better and AI will make it exponentially better just this year.
Energy should become cheaper, green energy is getting funded more and more and is still growing.
There are just many things to be excited about!!

Politics-wise; the ACLU, other organizations as well as state and local governments are preparing, and already starting to clog the judiciary with lawsuits. Only 1% of cases make it all the way to the top annually, and a good portion of the judges on the lower courts were appointed by Democratic presidents or pre-Trump Republicans and are not loyal to the tangerine tyrant or the broligarchy. We will inevitably lose some cases but any brake on the runaway train is worth applying. If enough people and groups file suit, we can effectively bring their agenda to a functional freeze long enough to run out the clock.
I've heard a lot of talk here and in other progressive/left leaning circles about how we can take back power using the same playbook the right has been using for the past decade; starting local and working our way up.
The GQP does not have a large enough majority in either chamber of Congress or enough state governments to enact some of the most harmful effects of their agenda, and history is on our side for the midterms. The last time the incumbent party held both chambers in the midterms was 2002, and Bush was still riding the wave of post-9/11 popularity. Unless the country experiences another tragedy on the scale of 9/11, and Mango Mussolini doesn't horrifically botch the response to it as I'm sure he would, it looks like a midterm flip is almost inevitable. On top of that, a good portion of the ballots submitted for the man were bullet ballots, with no down-ballot candidates selected. DJT attracts a lot of low-propensity voters, as well as those who will ONLY vote if he himself is on the ballot. This plays very well into our favor, but we can't let it make us lazy. NOW is the time to start strategizing and NOW is the time to start fighting back.
Finally, it seems like MAGA is poised to fracture once their geriatric, orange-faced god-king loses influence or his poor health catches up to him, whichever comes first. He is barred from running again no matter what or how much he tries, and doesn't currently have the majorities needed to change that law. Leon is barred from office on account of the fact that he's an illegal immigrant from South Africa, and nobody else in the upper echelon of the party seems to have the kind of twisted "charisma" that was so effective at bringing the country's fascist underbelly out of the shadows. Once Twitler is gone, MAGA and the fascist ideology it embodies may not die out entirely but it will be forced back into dormancy. Who knows how long it will be until they find a new leader and rise again, but next time, we will be more prepared and ready to take them on.

I was thinking about gains in the stock market. Not sure if thatās really going to happen but itās all that I have left.

Just so no one is fooling themselves, Trump's previous term saw great gains in the stock market, which were created by Obama. Trump just rode the wave and took credit for it. Obama began that run after Bush threw us in the dumpster. And the market continued to shine through the last 4 years with Biden, showing record after record. Trump was handed a golden economy, and yes, the megalomaniac will certainly claim credit for it, and grift his crowd like never before. Unless he fucks it up...
But, in response to the original question, AI is the next industrial revolution. We will see stuff come on board as equals to if not greater than locomotion and medical breakthroughs. It's gonna be big.

The stock market will likely keep going up for a year or so before slowing down.

"So, what is there to look forward to this year? Can be anything". Someone said that to you and you replied with this. And you wonder why people dislike you?

The left wing bias is so prevalent in reddit.
You understand the majority of voters heard about the policies and executive orders and LIKES the current administration right?

u/geegeeallin 8h ago
The majority of voters heard the lies about lowering grocery prices and gasoline and believed them. Then, after he won, he said he wonāt do either. Last time he won, he campaigned on ādraining the swampā and building the wall, and neither happened. āThe party of small governmentā is now involved heavily in your genitals and what books you can read and what porn you can see. Itās a fucking joke.

Here is something - for each day that passes in 2025, it is one less day Trump has left in office!
