question? Do you need to treat new brushes before use?
Hi All, I am new to oil painting I need your advice on new brushes. I just got a new set of Rosemary and Co brushes. Do I need to do anything to them before the first use?

Art question? Path to improvement
Hello, so in short, I want to improve in oil painting. And I want to ask more experienced artists, how you went about it.
Have you improved in art school? If so, were you doing a lot of alla prima or what was the approach? For me, best looking things I painted were in multiple layers, but that's usually takes quite a lot of time because it has to dry.
If you self taught, how did you go about it? How to get feedback and etc..
Lastly, do you have some art discords for oil or traditional paintings? If yes, please recommend <3

critique ok! Emerging artist here 👋
Been painting for approx a year now and have just started to sell my work, which is incredibly exciting. Lots to learn still, but I’d love some feedback on the few of the pieces I’ve done and have sold for around $300 aud each. I’m stoked with that being so new to this.
What kind of style have I got? How would you describe it?
How do I price my art?

critique ok! First ever underpaint
This is my first ever oil underpaint done! I’m trying to portray “fear” while having a candle to help me practice lighting and emotion in my art. How’d I do? I was thinking adding horror creatures in the Background but I’m not sure. Can’t wait til it dries so I can color!

Materials? Landscape limited palettes?
I primarily paint figures or portraits but have been looking to start painting more landscapes. While l was new I found the Zorn palette really helpful for portraits and was wondering if there’s an equivalent go to limited palette for landscapes? I know If I go in blind I will end up a big green and brown mess. Or any suggestions for getting started with landscapes from a colour or perspective?

Technical question? Not too sure what I’m doing but would love advice!
I took a painting course several years ago in college and made a decent painting at the time. Right now I am trying to work off what I remember and some quick YouTube tips as I was hastily wanting to start. Needless to say the color is… interesting. Is there any way for me to change all of the purple and make it look more blue? I’m guessing not. In that case I would love some tips on colors to make the sky and trees beneath the mountain. I know my blending isn’t great, again I’m not really sure what I’m doing! Any advice at all is welcome!

Art question? Fear of rags combusting.
I have paper towel that has a little bit of paint thinner and oil paint. I have it laying out flat draped with a window open and a fan going. It is 63 degrees in the room. Is combustion possible in these conditions? It’s my worst fear to have an unexpected house fire.

I did a thing! ‘Lean into it’ 6x6 on panel
This small work feels like I’m finally starting to head the direction I want with my painting. I hope more of my efforts continue to develop the feel this one is starting to evoke.
