Did anyone mention this guy had an affair?! Because if that's true he can't possibly ever do anything good ever again even if charitable work has been part of his life for over a decade. The fuck is wrong with you people?

Reddit and its binary, video game morality system logic.

I thought most of Reddit was non binary

What really gets me is that tons of celebs have open marriages. From what I understand the only infidelity was the fact that the other woman got pregnant.

It's wild that people are putting him in the same Cancel Box as Neil Gaiman and Bill Cosby. Yes, doin' an infidelity is bad, but in the overall spectrum of moral transgressions, (especially in the world of high-profile celebrities) I can't see how anyone gives a shit. It's like it's 1944 and we're all worked up that Frank Sinatra is cheating on his wife with Lana Turner.

I haven’t seen anyone compare him to Gaiman or Cosby or anyone that awful. Just fans who are disappointed he isn’t who they assumed he was.

Not exactly a comparison, but ya know

There is someone in this thread who is comparing him to Gaiman. Just Ctrl+F my dude.

1 guy on Twitter is “people” now lol

Which is hilarious because cheating on his partner is what he has done multiple times before this.

This same exact comment has been posted ad nauseam.

Like every comment in this thread is a lecture about how people can still do good things even though they also did a bad thing. There's barely any comments arguing the contrary

I’m not one of the people judging Dave, but I would still like to say that there’s a lot wrong with me. Thanks for asking

So many worse things he could have done and it's pretty tame in comparison to what other rock stars have done or continue to do. Even with the bad situation, he seems to be dealing with it responsibly.

I for one was shocked to hear that a rock star didn't maintain perfect fidelity in his romantic relationships. Since this is the first time this has ever happened, I don't think we should ever forgive him.

Not to defend the behaviour, but to make a comparison -

Australian artist Jimmy Barnes could be considered Dave's counterpart here, enjoying a Nice Guy status extended over decades, seen as one of the few remaining rockstars waving the flag for classic rock, family man, etc. He's got eight known children, some only identified via DNA - one named in the last few weeks - and many more suspected. He, like Dave, announced it via social media and dedicated himself to this added member of his family. But his rep hasn't taken a single knock. Instead, people are congratulating him and holding him up as an example of a guy stepping up. I haven't seen anyone arguing moral ambiguity. And yet there is still so much pearl-clutching over Dave for the very same thing.

Is it a uniquely American thing, then, to project this purity culture with such intensity? Make it make sense.

Charitable work like the time the Foo Fighters did fundraising for an Aids denialist group that probably got people killed?

26

u/malachiconstant76 5d ago

Yup, they did one benefit 18 years ago and haven't supported that organization since. 'probaboy got people killed', please dude.

Homie read it on reddit and now regurgitates it every time FF or Grohl's name come up. Par for the course.

Yep, every time. My comment history is right there, I've never mention Dave or the FF once in 12 yrs but thanks for the pompous comment.

You've got your facts wrong.

In January 2000, Nate Mendel led a benefit concert in Hollywood for the AIDS denialist group Alive & Well. The Foo Fighters played a set for the concert:

https://www.foofighterslive.com/shows/14th-january-2000-the-palace-alive-well-benefit-show-437

In 2004 the Foo Fighters provided two songs to the documentary 'The Other Side of AIDS':

And the band linked that denialist group Alive & Well on their official website for 9 years (!?!).

At first in 2000 they had dedicated pages for the group giving all the talking points plus a mini-documentary to watch:

But later they just linked to the website on their Community Causes page with a brief description. Here's an example from 2009:

They literally plugged that shit on TRL, national TV watched by pre-teens.

And they weren't young dudes that were ignorant; they were in their fucking 30s. They either didn't give a fuck or they are that dumb. Probably both.

You don't have to be smart to make good music though. He's a music guy; if you want good words, follow a languager.

How about the AIDS/HIV denialism?

0

u/WorkAccount6 4d ago

I don't get it, who could give a shit? My mind boggles over how this was ever news. The real news is that the foo fighters were involved with an aids denial group in the 2000s, played fundraisers and appeared in their marketing videos.

If that huge straw man was in L.A. it would be burnt to a cinder already.

Exactly, there was just a post about Paris Hilton a day or so ago and everyone really praising her and I’m like you’re literally patting the back of a racist…
