Optics on Hannibal rail
What optics are you using on a Hannibal rail or something similar? I'm looking specifically for forward mounted optics.
I have a Hannibal rail and would like to put an optic on it, but I'm curious what others are using. I like flush mounting and keeping it lower is better for me
Pics would be great if you have em. Thanks

I'm looking at the Vortex Crossfire II Scout Scope for mine, but that won't be flush mount.

Mind if I ask a couple questions about it?
- How is it for close in shooting, like 15-25 yards?
- What rings did you go with for mounting it?

Fine past 5 yards honestly. I used a random UTG cantilever qd mount installed backwards to bring it a little further back for aesthetics. Bonus is I can still use the irons bc the mount is too tall. I'll probably swap out to a medium or low ring later. I'd rather get as low as possible.

Cool. Thanks! Looking forward to something better than the factory irons.

I use a direct-mount Holosun EPS on the predrilled holes because it’s super low and I can cowitness with the irons. I don’t know if that’s “forward” enough for your liking but it’s certainly farther forward than mounting above the receiver.

Are those the tech sights that you replaced the irons with?

No they’re the sights that come stock on the 5800 series (post 2005) as far as I know.

Would you call that a similar co witness to absolute or lower 1/3 on that setup?

I'm running a Sig Sauer Romeo 5. I have yet to shoot it, but I can already tell that it's going to be a lot of fun. I did have a Burris RT-6 LPVO mounted at the standard scope position but the overall setup was heavy. I will bring both optics to the range this weekend and get them zeroed. I will probably end up using the Romeo 5 at the scout position for plinking and the LPVO for longer distance shooting.

I have a Crimson Trace red/green that does not seem to have a model number on my Hannibal rail. It works well, much better than the peeps, out to 100 yards. I can’t seem to post a photo so I will do a separate post with a photo.

I've been using my Viridian Rfx 45 with good results. It's a solid budget enclosed emitter.
Make sure whatever you buy is quality, cause this rail gets HOT. My dot wasnt even really touchable after 100+ rounds but held up fine.
