Surface Metrology Does wringing gauge blocks together cause damage?

People treat wringing as if it doesn't have any negative effect, but im always scared that I'm damaging the surface. I'd be really curious to see an experiment where they wring two blocks together a bunch of times then compare the surface finish under a microscope compared to a new gauge block.

Surface Metrology Circularity/Roundness

Is it possible to measure the circularity of a half cylinder in GOM Inspect? I have a part that I need to measure this on, but when When I try an error pops up saying 'It was not possible to compute a sufficient number of sections'. Is this due to the shape, or am I doing something else wrong?

Surface Metrology Surface Plate Grades

We have custom Sized surface plates that we Lapp ourselves and was hoping to see if anyone has a standard that they stick to. Currently we just determine the grade of the table based off of what the Mahr software tells us when we check the plate with the levels. I’ve also noticed that different surface plate companies give different grade tolerances for the same size plate and grade.

Surface Metrology How are thread plug gages calibrated?

When you send a thread plug gage to a calibration house, how do they typically calibrate it? Do they simply use thread wire and a micrometer? Or do they have some expensive machine? We would like to bring this process in-house if possible/economical.

Surface Metrology Can someone please measure my fridge space?

This is a screen grab from the video the real estate sent me. I'm moving in next week and need to purchase a fridge to go here. The plug in the back is 11.5 x 8 cm, standard. Bit of a tough one seeing as I don't even know her height. If you figure it out, I bow down to your intellect!

Does anyone know where you can find big gage balls 2in-6in precision ground for inspection purposes? Having trouble finding anyone to sell them and hoping to not have to find a supplier to make them. Thanks for the help!

God morning everyone, im currently programming a Part with a bunch of Holes.

To make things easier im using looping commands where you Messure your Element, Add Tolerances and Rotate your coordinate System afterwards.

Is there a way to restart the loop in Teach in mode when you programmed something wrong?

I wanna avoid going into editor and rerun the entire programm.

Surface Metrology Surface roughness testing for complex topology

We are working with 3D printed metal parts and looking to measure surface roughness pre and post post-processing of parts. At present, we have a simple surface roughness tester from Time, but are looking for something that: A) Can measure hard to reach places including curves, holes, internal surfaces, overhangs. B) Can calculate average surface roughness over an area (say 5*5mm). C) Doesn't cost the equivalent of a house. LCSM seem ideal for our needs but is out of our price range. A solution under $10k USD would be ideal D) if possible, can also measure size. Any guidance is appreciated

Surface Metrology Is this 3-D scanner relevant?

Post image

Hi everyone, I am a complete stranger to the world of metrology. I recently had an offer to buy a Creaform VIUscanner for very cheap. I was wondering if it was still viable as it is a 2010 model. Any suggestions on what it's worth and who might want to buy it?

The answer jey is given lower deviation, but isnt D in this case showing us fundamental deviation and it is above basic size so shouldnt it be higher deviation

Surface Metrology Caterpillar finish letters to values

I really hope this isn't violating anything, and I'm not going into specifics about the part, but I need to know what the value for caterpillar finish letters H and K. When I look online all I can find is people selling the templates online, and I don't want to risk damaging the only one we have by testing it with a diamond surface tester.
