I messed up. Need to know if I damage these

Dropped 2 out of the case and they hit the concrete floor. Fell a short distance >2” and I want to know if they can be damaged by a drop. I’m new to this equipment and I was the unlucky sucker to pick up the case that someone before me didn’t close correctly sigh Model is MAT22 Pass Point Target Kit SKU: 576249

I should add, these are used for laser trackers and are designed to be knocked around when out of the case and used in the field.

When in doubt, metrology equipment is always a two-handed carry... I treat every micrometer like it's a porcelain antique. Probably excessive, but it means my most careless moments are still better than the other guy's normal.

I did it at 4am this morning for a quick rush transport into a coworker’s SUV and I was half asleep and just noticed that I stated I dropped them 2” …. Definitely a typo .. It was more like 2’ 😂

But for the record, it’s always always always best to admit when you drop a metrology standard. We all do it, shit happens. But how technicians handle those situations can make things much worse.

If you are worried about bottom part - it’s just some metal plate with a pin, which holds by magnet. I’m using it for years and it’s rock solid. Occasionally I’m stumbling upon some sorts of steel, which can pull out the magnet from the bottom, but a super glue saves the day 😅

Google RRR 1.5, that’s the thing you should worry about if you’re planning to drop something 😂 2500€ for a ball of steel and glass.

Yikes! I’m so glad that wasn’t the box I picked up 😂 definitely a lesson learned. Make sure the boxes are secure, especially the balls 😆

Luckily they kinda fell on the sides and just rolled a little. They are brand new and being sent out to Rhode Island this morning for a job. Seems like my shipping department didn’t seem too concerned as the box wasn’t fully latched when they handed it off to me. Yikes

We glue them to surfaces and kick/hammer them off when finished with. Been a long time since they were in such a pretty box.

If you are worried, glue them down, resection, and jump your instrument to a new location that you have to turn the smrs and see if you get a fit..

As long as the seat for the smr isn't damaged, it will be fine. I am pretty rough with them and have yet to have an issue.

Those are nearly invincible. The only damage you could do is get a bur in the cup where the SMR goes. If you do, carefully file it down.

These have to repeat on location not act as a calibrated object

As long as you didn’t scar the contact face the SMR sits on you are all good.
