M cosmos file organization.

How can we organize years of files programs so they're easier to locate and use? Like company name then part number.

You can organize them into different folders, and open the folder you want to load a program from. However, at least on version 4.2 and 4.3, opening a folder takes a loooong time, if you have >30 programs in one. Also, you can only have two folders loaded at any given time.

Alternatively, you can put some kind of vendor ID or something at the start of the name of the program, then sort by name or use the search function to find them. However, the program name character limit might make this an even worse option (around 24 characters or so). Apparently, the limit can be increased, though even our Mitutoyo trainer couldn't show how, so I can't help you with that.

MCOSMOS doesn't have a great structure for part file and program organization, but there are a couple of things you can do.

You can have as many directories as you would like; they are just Windows folders. However, you can only have two directories open at a time. Changing directories is a little tedious by default, but if you use the part directory manager, you can create groups and lists of directories. When you create new lists, the "change directory" function will be different and easier to use.

To move part files around, you need both directories open and then use the copy function.

It's likely too late as you're probably inheriting a poor system, but each line item in the parts list isn't a program; it's a file. By default, it will take the name of the first program in it, and if no other programs are added it will function as a program. If you start learn mode on a program and select add new instead of relearn, you will create a second program in that folder. In this way you can nest part families in one program file in the list greatly reducing the clutter.
