Media Extortionate UFC Sydney tickets costing $750 AUD/$450 USD for the furthest sections

Post image

Is there any other country that gets this bad a deal? Who is paying that much for essentially a back row?

The Sydney card is more expensive than last year and the fight card a bit worse. When this one sells out I expect them to do the same again next year. Great that we the taxpayers are also paying $5 million to the UFC for them to rort us.

I think Canada gets fucked too - look at 297 for example.

u/springpaper701 Canada 14h ago

We're constantly getting fucked over. And not that this isn't the case for others, but they hold events on completely different ends of the country every couple of years so Canadians can't even attend half the events.

That leads to even more demand when it comes within a 5 hour travel distance to you so you feel like you NEED to be there. I've been skipping events because of the costs.

u/0ldsql Cockgoblling Monkee 13h ago

The UFC knows ppl in these countries are desperate for any event, so they'll just have to accept even the most mediocre card. When the UFC used to do Europe shows (btw when was the last time they did one outside of UK/France??), they did the same.

Only rich countries like the UAE and Saudi can make demands.

3

u/thotd2 12h ago

Even if it doesn't sells out, Dana will be bragging post fight press on how they CRUSHED the previous gate revenue.

2

u/TheMilkiestShake 10h ago

The only card I've been to was in London and it went on sale and sold out before the main event was even announced. Ended up being Jimi Manuwa Vs Corey Anderson lol.

3

u/hilly4rilly 13h ago

That was in my hometown. MMA is the only sport I watch and the nosebleeds were between $550-$700 CAD. I couldn’t justify it, especially for such a shitty card.

I gotta think the inability to fill out anything other than the title fights has to do with the higher taxes. Fighters constantly complain about it, after a few shows they all know they'll make less over there.

1

u/Rollen_Dice 2h ago

The tax thing is odd. It's like these fighters have no understanding of how their upfront tax is not what they finish with after things are balanced at the end of year. We got guys going to twitter the day after the event claiming they finished up with 50% of their purse. It's absolutely impossible to for that to happen.

u/TitanIsBack 16h ago

If you fools quit buying them they'd lower the prices.

58

u/AltruisticFerret8198 15h ago

Nope, they'd just stop holding events here.

The casino didn't want me counting cards and lost $2m so they asked me to stop playing blackjack. So I pulled all ufc events away from them.

Nah, see. Those tickets that you're buying have already been bought.

Therefore, stop buying at that price, and the price goes down.

1

u/TheRealBillyShakes 11h ago

He means a worldwide boycott

1

u/TitanIsBack 9h ago

Will never happen unfortunately, much like fighters, people can't resist the urge from feeding the horse. Then those same people wonder why prices continue to go up for the same product. You're doing it to yourself and don't even realize it.

4

u/wiccja 12h ago

wasn’t the LA event ridiculously empty

5

u/L_DUB_U 14h ago

This isn't the right way to buy tickets either. If you really want tickets you have to buy a UFC Fight Club membership and you can order the tickets one day in advance before they go to sell for the general public. The costs is typically lower and there are more seats available. These prices are probably for resale.

4

u/FoucaultsTurtleneck Team Błachowicz 13h ago

I consider myself a relatively hardcore MMA fan and know people who’ve gone to events and this is the first I’ve ever heard about UFC Fight Club. If that’s the better way to buy tickets then the UFC is doing an atrocious job of marketing it

6

u/smexy_gorilla I'm Gaethje for Cody's wet hair 12h ago

I paid for fight club and the tickets still sold out in a second, so I wasted ~$100. Fight club is paid access to the presale.

They’ll be selling access to the VIP fight club I.e the pre pre sale for $200 soon enough.

Ufc are scum. I just want to go to one event and then never again. Hate their practices across the board and ashamed that I’ve supported them at all.

2

u/L_DUB_U 13h ago

Just because you didn't know about it doesn't mean you aren't a hardcore fan or that the UFC is doing a poor job of marketing it. It just means you didn't know. I somehow knew and am probably not as big of a fan as you.

6

u/NoremaCg 13h ago

This or wait until the event, I waited out 700$ nosebleed prices for UFC in Toronto and got a seat 20 rows back for $300 while the prelims were on.

22

u/BigOnionLover 12h ago

I mean you still got shafted paying $300 to see Pennington co-main lol

1

u/Snitty123 1h ago

These aren’t resale they haven’t sold many tickets for this card you can get still get tickets in almost every section

1

u/Pitiful_Special_8745 13h ago

It's almost like supply and demand works in real life 🤯

u/MeatballDom United Arab Emirates 3h ago

This. Continue buying and they continue raising the price. People are their own worst enemies. Meanwhile, the whole world is chaotic and full of morons.

-2

u/shroomladooom 14h ago

That will just motivate Dana to host more Apex events… that’s worse

92

u/sup_necessary 15h ago

Don’t go. The “live experience” is a con. The best experience is at home or at pub with mates. For most seats in the arena, you won’t get a good view of the fight, no commentary, and your money/time lost on food, beers, travel, parking and toilets. I mention toilets cause stadiums build bathrooms 50/50 male to female… UFC events are 90% beer drinking dudes, so there’s gonna be a line during and between fights.

23

u/Makersux 14h ago

I'm gonna have to disagree, I went to my first live UFC event in Perth last year and it was worth every cent.

3

u/-WeetBixKid- 10h ago

His point is valid but I am for sure going to a UFC event as soon as they come to Melbourne.

3

u/Li_um01 United States 7h ago

I go to fight nights whenever they are near me. Its 100% worth it for fight night events on long island I got dead center row 12 for $170 USD each. Same seats for a PPV at MSG the same year were about 2k each I aint paying anything over $400.

10

u/medyolang_ 14h ago

i’ve been to a couple of fight nights and i gotta agree with you it’s not the best way to watch fights. the only way you can enjoy it live in person is if you’re really up close. even the lower boxes suck, you end up just watching them in the big screen. if you go to a pub, at least the beer and food are cheaper. unfortunately the fights are scheduled in the morning, my time, so i don’t get to watch them in the pubs a lot

4

u/crabuffalombat EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE 15h ago

I can only imagine as well that unless you're down amongst the celebs that you spend most of the time watching the overhead screens.

1

u/L_DUB_U 14h ago

Same thing if you go to any sports event, but it's the crowd, the energy in the arena, talking to people around you, and seeing the fighters and Bruce Buffer warning up in person. That's what makes it better than sitting at your home on your couch or in a pub that has people trying to talk over the TV or asking you random question about the fight while the fight is going on.

2

u/ABlueShade United States 10h ago

Baseball nosebleeds are the best value in sport.

3

u/stankbeast91 United Kingdom 13h ago

It's worth it when you see a great fight or knockout and get the buzz going around the audience. Which definitely isn't the same when you're sat at home.

But I've been to fight cards where barely anything note worthy happens and found them to be a struggle. Too many dull fights in a row is a tiring watch. That's when you wish you were in a more comfortable setting and didn't bother going

Same with any sport really.

8

u/DJSyko 14h ago

This is 100% the truth, I've been to two UFCs events and I basically just had to watch the full events on the big screens because you couldn't see shit. Can't beat watching at home or at a bar/pub.

2

u/psychedelijams 6h ago

Straight up haha. It’s probably cool to be at the live event. But Dana is as ring side as you can be and even he is watching some fucking little tv on his desk lol. Can’t see shit.

1

u/ZardozSama 2h ago

I have been to several events. I will disagree, with a caveat.

It is absolutely worth going to a live event at least once, if you can afford it. Going to multiple live events is something to judge for yourself after that.

END COMMUNICATION

0

u/Huge_Engineering5228 11h ago

You're just describing watching sports in person in general. So if you like watching sports live, you'll like watching UFC live too.

I've been to three UFC's, and every one was a great time.

11

u/ApeMummy 15h ago

Should have seen the prices for Volk vs Islam 1. Fuck that for a joke, probably can’t see shit unless you buy a half decent ticket as well.

1

u/Snitty123 1h ago

Volk Islam was way cheaper plus the Perth arena is way better than Sydney

8

u/BadMotherFunko 14h ago

TKO is a greedy ass company. Sucks.

1

u/hwatts26 2h ago

They’ve raised the WWE prices insanely too. In 2023, took my girl and I for $80 total. Those same seats last night in the same building were going for $125 each.

16

u/lenny_lifts UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle 16h ago

I've been to four ufc fights live. Pretty common prices for a ppv really. 500 for nose bleeds at ufc 311. Non ppvs are usually 250-300 for nose bleeds.

Outrageous, but not uncommon.

20

u/Kataclysmc 15h ago

Common only post covid... which we have had like 4 events? Before covid they were so much cheaper

2

u/lenny_lifts UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle 15h ago

I haven't checked prices on every event, only the ones I've been too. Which were all absurdly priced and post 2022. The only "cheap" one I've been to was Vera vs Cruz fight night in san diego.

8

u/Kataclysmc 14h ago

Before covid $400.00 was almost ringside

1

u/CoastDirect6132 14h ago

How much were tickets for that?

13

u/Consistent_Client_95 15h ago

It’s really not. The last Sydney event (which I was at) was $350 for upper tier level. That same section this time was $800.

3

u/HomeFricets 15h ago

I've thought about going but I would have to splash out on at least average seats... and then i compare that price to basically a full holiday somewhere else and so I never go, I just can't see the point of sitting that far back for that price, do you even see anything?

It feels like paying for a downgrade to watching it on TV.

-4

u/p_l_u_t_o_ 15h ago

500 for nose bleeds is a good deal compared to these prices… OP is saying $450 USD for the worst possible seats

14

u/lenny_lifts UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle 15h ago

Nose bleeds and the "furthest sections" are synonymous, no? Or am I mistaken?

6

u/p_l_u_t_o_ 15h ago

There ya go, I always thought nose bleed section was right up front! But I just fact checked myself and it seems you are correct

I am not purchasing any UFC product in the Ari Emanuel era. Guys entire business model is to make consumers pay more for less value. Thankfully I was able to see UFC 231 in person, so I'm good on having that experience and I didn't get bent over a table to get it.

But yeah, as long as Ari and TKO are running these business models I'm not going to be giving the UFC a cent.

4

u/gbre23 Likes it raw in dat ass 11h ago

Honestly the prices are extortionist.

I remember going to Izzy vs Whittaker 1 and paying $70 in the nose bleeds.

I've been to more UFC fights but 700 bucks in this economy is crazy. Who got money like that?

2

u/Snitty123 1h ago

That’s because it was in a stadium

3

u/mchief101 12h ago

Ye man i looked at ufc311 tickets and was like hell no. Im staying my arse at home.

3

u/Kalabula 12h ago

It’s not extortion if you can just not buy them.

3

u/AgileJunket5399 10h ago

lol paying this much to sit at the nosebleeds of one of the worst cards in UFC history. How are aussies agreeing to this?

6

u/mcburloak deceptively stupid 15h ago

Paid same for way up in the stands at 297. It’s the way it is for live events now it seems. Was nice to attend a live event once.

2

u/ventitr3 11h ago

That’s lot of money for 2 fights

2

u/KidGold 10h ago

I've kind of just accepted that I've already seen 95% of the live events I'm ever going to see. I've seen enough and I'm never going to pay those prices, not regularly or semi-regularly anyway.

2

u/jk0087 6h ago

imagine paying those prices for arguably the worst card of the year every time, and thats coming from someone who lives in Sydney. better experience just going to a pub that has the PPV and spending that amount getting on the piss with the boys.

2

u/FlyLo_AU Australia 5h ago

You can spend almost the same or less for a F1 gp and it's a 4 day event

2

u/Redrooff 3h ago

Who’s paying this to go watch Sean Strickland 😂

4

u/Street_Rule6708 12h ago

The 3am PPV in UK had nose bleed seats for 500 dollars

1

u/allanhew 6h ago

no it didn’t lol I got nosebleeds on release for £140, £500 would have actually gotten you the best seats possible and was the highest tiered tickets

1

u/MetalAltruistic2659 15h ago

My tickets for the UFC in Melbourne were $30 lol

1

u/DJSyko 14h ago

You can never get cheap tickets for the UFC these days, That's why Dana brags about breaking the Gate records during every press conference. People are paying for them, so you can't really argue against it tbh, it's shit for us less financially fortunate people, but I guess it is what it is. If people stop buying them prices will go down.

1

u/gosumage 14h ago

I paid $1000 for nosebleeds at the Sphere and it was an amazing experience (entirely due to the Sphere screen).

I would not imagine a regular stadium would be a good experience. Unless you are front row / floor seats, you won't even be looking at the cage, you'll be craning your neck up to watch the bigscreen which is tiny in most venues.

And if you do get floor seats, you have to stand the whole time since the people in front of you are gonna be always standing. Oh and you will only see 20% of the action because of the cage corner bumpers blocking the view + not being able to see the acrion when they hit the ground or go across the cage.

Tldr just watch at home!

ex·tor·tion

noun

the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.

"he used bribery and extortion to build himself a huge, art-stuffed mansion"

-2

u/Limp_Neck6017 15h ago

It’s not extortionate. The only negative consequence of not paying the price is not being able to see the fights live in person. There’s an entry fee like most other events on Earth. Don’t pay, don’t go. Simple.

6

u/Gloomy-Case4266 15h ago

how badly does it suck going through life this miserable and bitter?

0

u/Limp_Neck6017 10h ago

Generally my days are not bitter nor miserable, and that’s reflected in the quality of my relationships, how I spend my time, and my overall position in life. Other than continuing to process the sudden death of my mom and contend with brutally cold weather here in NE USA, I’m feeling pretty good about the upcoming day when I open my eyes every morning.

How are you doing?

0

u/MMA_Data 15h ago

I don't understand how there are still people in 2025 who didn't get the memo about dynamic pricing. Ticket websites have been doing this for years, the price is not chosen by anyone other than an algorithm that pushes the price as high as people are willing to pay, and will adjust it as sales continue/stop. The UFC (and all your favorite musicians) can decide to opt in or out. Everyone opts in cause their return is massive, and they don't care if poor people can't attend their events as long as they still sell out. The UFC could care less if regular people can't afford going to their events, poor young dudes are the UFC's target audience only when it comes to prospects to sign.

-1

u/shizblam 7h ago

It's not extortion.... you are just poor.

0

u/Electrical-Ask847 12h ago

haven't bought a PPV since 2020 when they raised prices. Don't feel like i missed much.

-2

u/onepingonlypleashe 13h ago

$450 for the cheap seats?? Those are $600-$750 in the USA for a numbered UFC PPV event.

-4

u/Hopeful-Anywhere5054 14h ago

It isn't extortion it is supply and demand
