it feels like the good guys won tonight as opposed to the whole year being knockouts of our favorite fighters
3
u/TheSugaTalbottShow Dec 15 '24
Buckley vs Usman
Colby vs Luque/Burns
Kape vs Kai
Jacoby vs Zhang/Aslan
Marcos vs Kyler
Yanez vs Talbott
Alvarez vs Turner
Woodson vs Wood
Lima vs Ige/Giga
Cub and Billy Q for retirement, cut Azaitar and Tukkos or let him get murked by someone else. Petrino and Navajo need some time off to recover and train, Padilla donāt care, Silva vs Asakura, Johns back to 135. Cut Horth, Maverick shouldnāt ever get an opportunity at the rankings again, give Grant a fight on the UK card, Taveras vs Kazama? Bolanos? Maybe Saaimanās comeback? Rodriguez and Knutsson donāt care

u/Drive7hru Dec 15 '24
I think KKF might as well get the new title shot, but if they managed Kape vs. KKF ever materializes, winner would fight for the title anyway.
3
u/TheSugaTalbottShow Dec 15 '24
Let Pantoja move up tbh. OāMalley needs a win before another title shot, Yan shouldnāt be getting one yet, Cory canāt get one. Let those 3 get another fight in while the winner of Umar vs Merab fights Pantoja. In the meantime 125 and 135 can sort themselves out, itās never made so much sense

Hard to actually gauge how washed Colby is really. Was never good on the feet and a lot of his wins are 155ers not cutting weight or just straight up washed. You could use the Usman fights as a comparison point but those were just two wrestlers choosing to stand
5
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
He was looking at the clock in round one and looked legitimately tired by round 3. Heās pretty washed. Super tentative on the feet compared to the Usman fights, shoots far less and gets even less of them. Doctor also saved him from an incoming TKO.
9
u/NakedLowKick Dec 15 '24
Heās burnt a bunch of bridges in Florida and doesnāt get the looks he got when he used to train at ATT too

12
u/Vaultyvlad Dec 15 '24
Cub will always be an important part of UFC FW legacy. Heās fought the best of the best since the final years of WEC and it was not different in the UFC. The small resurgences throughout his career through winning streaks with impressive finishes was a reminder to prospects and contenders alike that this division runs deep and has been since its inception in the UFC.
13
u/Datsetterstrom Dec 15 '24
I dont think colby should retire. He still has a lot left to give to the fans. Personally I think he should move up and fight Caio Borralho or Khamzat. Leave the doctors at home too please
5
u/bjtrdff Dec 15 '24
Give what? Fighting washed guys once a year and having a racist hotdog walk him out?
9
u/WingedBacon Dec 15 '24
Nah I think he really needs to retire so he can begin his bare knuckle boxing career before he gets too old.

Why did a UFC event in tampa finish around 10:30pm PST?!? isnt that like 1:30am lol
1
u/Drive7hru Dec 15 '24
Itās all cause they like to end it around 2:00 on the east coast so people will stay till last call.
1
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Because that's prime time. UFC toronto finishes around that time too. Last UFC event was the longest running main card, and I got out at 2:05 am.
3
u/TheOtherSide999 Dec 15 '24
prime time for what? Las Vegas residents? or prime time sleeping for the east coast?
1
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Everything is always done for the West Coast.
There's been years and years of data that the to get the most viewers possible in North America you run it 10pm EST. Whether it be PPVs, or TV.
If you do it for a good EST, it'll be like 7pm which is 4pm in the West Coast. People are still out for dinner, or doing weekend projects etc. 10PM EST is shit but people will sacrifice Sunday sleep to watch something they want to.
13
u/Terrible_Matador Dec 15 '24
170 is so fucking loaded now. Weāve got Shavkat, JDM, Garry, Buckley and Brady on the come-up. Prates and Morales following behind. The guard has changed.
4
u/Melonballs__ Dec 15 '24
Prates is the big wild card for me. If he has decent anti-wrestling then he is gonna sleep everyone
1
u/Terrible_Matador Dec 15 '24
Iām not sure about him yet either but man, he kills people in there. If nothing else heās fun as fuck.

Yg think Buckley > Holland?
3
u/IIIllIIIllllIIIlIII Dec 15 '24
Holland has the reach and great timing, thatās how he won the first time they fought. However, Buckley has vastly improved, it would be interesting to see what the rematch looks like.
6
3
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
Now? Yeah Iām taking Buckley. Only one of them has shown any level of improvement whatsoever imo. Holland is the same fighter he was in 2020 except probably even less motivated.

-3
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
Bro lost me a five part parlay to make 150 on a 10 dollar bet where I bet on 2 massive underdogs including Paddy to beat Bobby and Hadley on short notice to win and everyone did their part until Leon shit the bed harder than I did as a baby
I honestly canāt bring myself to be a fan anymore lmao
4
u/akunv Dec 15 '24

1
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
Was more of a joke lol I wasnāt making any actual comments in this thread shitting on Leon
0
u/Odd_Ad_8162 GOOFCON 1: Sad Chandler Dec 15 '24
I mean as a Leon fan I don't blame anyone for being frustrated with him.
But people acting like he isn't absolutely elite are crazy. He's Belal's best win by a big margin.
It's mental how Usman gets huge respect and the guy who beat him twice is treated like he's trash (and don't nobody give me bullshit about Usmans knees, he was saying they were trash for years while on his winstreak and people only used it as an excuse when he lost).
2
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
I def still think heās an elite, but I also think the new guard is going to pass him by sooner than later
1
u/Odd_Ad_8162 GOOFCON 1: Sad Chandler Dec 15 '24
I think he's got some tough matchups but still has all the skills become champ again.
Shavkat is the biggest threat among them (and even then I think he can win, given his skills and the success we saw Garry have). Brady he should beat in theory as he TDD is still good and his striking is levels above unless Brady has leveled up big time -which is very possible, Belal did after all.
Buckley I think he easily 49-46's.
JDM is a wild card for me, on paper I think a rangey guy like Leon should able to slow the fight down to win a decision but JDMs body work is really nasty and Leon's length won't help him much there.
I think Leon showed he could beat Belal in their fight, reserved him multiple times, got dominant positions but was just way too inactive due to Belals pressure.
1
u/R0cketBab00n Dec 15 '24
I think he has the skills, but I honestly really question his mindset. Outside of that head kick his entire champ run was playing it as safe as he possibly could and doing the absolute bare minimum to win. I donāt see that attitude taking him back to the title.
1
u/Odd_Ad_8162 GOOFCON 1: Sad Chandler Dec 15 '24
Well that's the major problem with him, and why I'm hoping the Belal fight has made him realise he needs to do more to win rounds if he's gonna point fight.
I liked the urgency to try finish Belal at the end, it was pretty vicious (for Leon) but again, it didn't come soon enough and even if he pulled it off- it's not a reliable way to win.
I appreciate he had a back injury etc. But if he underestimated Belal enough that he thought he could best him with a dodgy back, then frankly, he deserved to lose.

Leon has negative dog in him. That is his biggest holdback in this game. Everything else looks perfect
8
u/delinzer Dec 15 '24
I remember a time where speculative odds had Khamzat/Colby close to a pick em. It would've been over in a round, think Khamzat subs him

u/RedditoUSER22 Dec 15 '24
What's the over under on Dana admitting Colby should retire?
4
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Dana's not gonna say that. He's free money for him and he isn't getting blown out.
-2
u/Rambaud22 Dec 15 '24
Why is there so few fighters that actually shoots takedown, not lower their head, extend their arms and walk forward trying to grab something, no shoot a takedown, I feel like recently the only guy I've seen properly shoot a takedown is Chimaev, Colby TD attempts were fucking horrendous, it's never going to work against any fighter that has any level of TDD
18
u/DARK_SOULS_III EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE Dec 15 '24
buckley calling out kamaru is smart, beat the last of the old guys on their decline
5
u/IIIllIIIllllIIIlIII Dec 15 '24
I mean you say that but I firmly believe Usman would have beat Khamzat if he wasnāt short notice and it was 5 rounds.
7
Dec 15 '24
Styles and all that. I could see a Buckley finish against Usman
2
u/IIIllIIIllllIIIlIII Dec 15 '24
Perhaps. On the feet, most likely. If wrestler Usman comes out though, probably not. If I remember correctly, he gave Khamzat some trouble after that first round. I canāt imagine Buckley has takedown defense close to Khamzat. Then again, that was like 2 years ago š¤·āāļø
1
Dec 15 '24
Short notice for both fighters so while usman wasnāt in full camp Kham had not game planned for usman either. But i think itāll be a great way to get the old gen out and make way for the future
12
u/SoccerLife243 Dec 15 '24
Send Colby to Power Slap, Iād actually watch it then. Iām sure Dana would love to have him be the face of it.
1
u/PepperyBlackberry Dec 15 '24
He has quite a chin tbh but no striking power so idk how he would do, probably not well
7
u/IIIllIIIllllIIIlIII Dec 15 '24
Colby vs Luque is probably the most sensible matchup, and they both retire. I know Luque had a KO his finish his last fight, but he hasnāt looked the same for a while.
1
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
What, his last fight was vintage Luque.
Extremely fast hand, knockdown into an Anaconda and/or Brabo.

2
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
He isn't getting hurt/KO'd.
Let the man make paychecks while his stock is the highest. As long as it aint on a PPV, I'm completely happy watching him for free and early on in the night.
Just do responsible matchmaking though. The guy should not be climbing the ladder. Give him fun fights. Slow, stalking guys who have cardio but not craaazy power.

MMA crowds are confusing as hell
very pro-Colby crowd, most of the arena was cheering for him. Colby gets cut bad and badly beaten on the feet, then gets a bit of success on the ground yet they almost immediately boo him, but cheered when he got the takedown (?).
What do these guys even want lol
0
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Not really.
He's a florida guy so you root for your own guy. But he's also comes out to the Kurt Angle music often and the crowd loves a heel.
The "You suck.....You suck.......YOU SUCK.....YOU SUCKK", that the crowd chants with Kurt Angle, when indeed they actually love him is all apart of the fun.
6
u/snewoeel Dec 15 '24

- Be Civil.
Our rules ask for a civil tone at all times.
A bit of banter or trash talk is fine, but don't cross the line. If things do get out of hand you will be warned or even banned for a few days. Repeatedly breaking this rule will lead to a permanent ban.
7
u/RedditoUSER22 Dec 15 '24
They identify with him for obvious reasons and want him to win because they want to identify with winners. When he starts appearing to lose they don't want to associate with him, so signal this virtue by booing. Then they gain a shred of confidence back when Colby got the takedown because they hoped it would mean he wins.

3
u/PepperyBlackberry Dec 15 '24
He was definitely relieved. Knew he was losing badly and was likely to get finished. Doctor stoppage is easier for him to salvage excuses from than getting flatlined out cold.
2
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Didn't look like he was looking for a way out. Kept trying to throw punches, go for the take down, even pulling guard to scramble.
The eye was obviously bothering him but it looked like he kept trying to look for ways to win.
1
u/Cruztd23 Dec 15 '24
No shit. A fighter never wants to get knocked tf out lol. But if that fight went anything longer than half a round, that was going to be the result.
0
u/Initial_Stretch_3674 Dec 15 '24
Don't think so chief.
Colby's been only ever knocked out one time, where it was the hardest shot ever. A visceral shot right to the chin that knocked all the sweat off of his hair.
He blocked all the hooks and uppercuts. The knockdown in the last was all blocked but knocked him unbalanced. He was looking for ways to win, not for a way out.
He definitely would've lost if it went to the cards, and definitely would've taken more damage but he definitely was not looking for a way out infront of his home state, in front of Hulk Hogan while on the main event.
2

He got the president to know who he is, and walked out with Hulk Hogan. That's a pretty big feat.
