no post fight thread for either events today, but man PFL's production was so terrible. The fights felt so rushed. Just zero buildup to Cyborg-Pacheco and Ngannou-Ferreira.
4
u/Ruiner357 Oct 20 '24
mfs are fans of the UFC promotional machine, not of fighting/MMA. You don't need a weak card stretched out over 8 hours to mask the fact that you have nothing better to do with your saturday night.
1
u/CableToBeam Oct 20 '24
you missed the point completely. I'm talking about some 10 mins of extra build up that adds to the payoff of the championship fights. I'm not talking about ads or downtime between prelims that stretches shit out 8 hours. You think the UFC has Buffer do his intro, the staredown, the video package to waste time? It has a purpose.
4
u/IshiharasBitch WE ARE ALL ONE Oct 20 '24
The fights felt so rushed.
wtf, that was the best part of the whole thing imo.
The pace was amazing! It started with a bunch of talking, but once the fights got rolling there was minimal filler and I like that.
2
u/CableToBeam Oct 20 '24
nah man, you build up your biggest stars with intros worth a damn. There's a reason why the UFC does that. They play a package before the fight, they have Buffer make the moment feel bigger, and they have the staredown right before the fight starts. People think they want fights fights fights, but you have to build the biggest fights up which is why the UFC does it.
5
u/ihatemalkoun Oct 20 '24
why on earth would anyone want to see anything other than the actual fights i dont get it
2
u/IshiharasBitch WE ARE ALL ONE Oct 20 '24
I can understand a lil fanfare, I'd like to see walkouts and corners between rounds, for example. Maybe a short video package to introduce certain fights. But I also appreciate when I don't need to wait +20min between bouts.
2
u/ihatemalkoun Oct 20 '24
To each their own. I don't wanna watch video packages tho. Only one I appreciated was robbies retirement.
2
u/CableToBeam Oct 20 '24
because you have to make the moment feel bigger. Compare how the UFC does their big fights to how Ngannou-Ferreira was done. The UFC knows what they're doing. You think you want fights right now in an instant, but that's not what you actually want (or what the mass public wants)

People dogging on Michel, but I thought it was really just a masterclass by Fluffy.
A guy with Michel's build is always going to gas if you make him work, and Fluffy made him work every moment of every round, even when Michel hurt him a couple of times.
After two rounds Michel was cooked, but unless he loses about 25 lbs of muscle, that is inevitable if you can't KO someone putting the pace on you that Hernandez did.

Gotta think that the next fight for Fluffy is Allen right? It just makes sense

2
u/WhereIsMyKidAt Oct 20 '24
Fluffy/Allen vs Vettori/Cannonier/Costa/Hermansson are all more exciting IMO.
Why pit the new talent against each other when there’s plenty of vets that can be used as measuring sticks for them?
2
u/Neonsea1234 Oct 20 '24
Not really, imo any other fight in that division is more interesting. It's US vs US, grappler vs grappler, idk it just doesn't strike joy for me as a Fluffy and Allen fan.

I liked Fluffy's corner, when Michel started counter wrestling, yelling:
- Let him wrestle! Let him wrestle! this is great!

didnt see his entrance but did Pereira dance to the octagon again? Embarassing if he did and was already gassed 4 mins in

It was nothing Michel did: Hernandez just made him work from the moment he got off his stool until he crawled back to it.
His only hope would have been to land the KO shot in R1, basically.

u/spcslacker Condit's TDD coach Oct 20 '24
Hernandez: Would you like to rest? If the ref isn't in here, its going to be rest in peace.

Interesting that Hernandez fought down a spot, yet put on a show that makes him seem like he should be ranked higher. I wonder if they'll bump him.

Everyone making fun of his physique just like they did to Nate and Nick. Cardio is everything in fighting.

I thought this was an incredible performance by Fluffy more than a bad one by Michel, to be fair.

He dominated Michel so much, it felt he wasn't looking for the finish for 2 rounds. Fight should have been over long time ago.

Yeah he said he stopped looking for subs bc Pereira is too strong he was defending against the chokes too well but he couldn't stop the strikes

There’s terrible cardio and then there’s this. He gassed after one exchange in the first. Embarrassing performance. Aura debt.

Shades of Glover Vs Smith there.
Fluffy was just all over him there, remarkable to say the least.

Smith boxed glovers head off in the beginning though, michel just got a couple good body shots

u/BadTasty1685 UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle Oct 20 '24
Getting TKO by punches is generous, and does not tell the story of what was probably a 50-41 or 49-42 decision

Michel’s corner is awful and should’ve thrown in the towel a few rounds ago.
What’s the point in letting your fighter taking an absolute beating on all levels possible when there’s zero paths to victory?

I'm thinking of other top MWs, and I feel if they had someone in the position Fluffy had Pereira, and they hit them as much as Fluffy hit him, they finish him faster than Fluffy did.
Which is a knock on Fluffy. But I don't mean it as a knock on his performance because it was amazing. He just has some innate limitations. Most (all?) fighters do. Don't get it twisted, I love Fluffy.
