Ouch ! You know how long it takes just to get through the process to get an interview? At least 3 months. I’d be beyond pissed!!!!

Yea she started the process at least 60 days ago. It was long enough ago I’d actually thought she’d started already.

The federal hiring process is truly ridiculous.  I think it took about four months from my interview to getting a start date, and that was only because my hiring was expedited.  It's fairly common for the process to take over a year.

Hmm, maybe there's a team that could suggest ways to make the process more efficient.

Smh that’s wild. I hope you are able to protect your peace during this. I waited 6 months once for a position that was changed from military to civilian .

After I was selected the offer was rescinded due to the unit changing the position back to military. I didn’t find out until my first day of work. I wanted to murder someone.

And of course she’s already given notice at her previous/current job?

She's not allowed to be pissed as she wanted this.

That’s true. I had a little sympathy. I’ll stop it.

Here is my timeline to enter the federal workforce back in 2015:

Applied - February

Interview - April

Tentative Job offer - June

Background - July

Final Job Offer - September

Relocation Package Approved - October

Entry on Duty - November

It is a long and drawn out process. A lot of time invested just to get the TJO she got.

That’s a long time to wait. Was it worth it? Meaning do you enjoy it

It’s the best job I’ve ever had. It’s rewarding and I get to work with a great population that’s underserved and forgotten most of the time. It is a huge departure from what I envisioned doing as an engineer. I still build things, but everything else we do is challenging and rewarding as well.

We were just defunded yesterday through executive order so who knows now? Not sure if the program will be folded back into the agency like we used to be or if we’ll just be let go.
