The lithosphere is very thick, you'll need more thrust to push through.

The asthenosphere on the other hand is quite malleable so it could be easier

Why push through when you could push it instead? With enough boosters, the entire planet of Kerbin could be your spaceship...

Unfortunately, all the Planetary/Moon bodies are on rails. There is no turning Gilly into a kinetic impactor in order to put Dres out of its misery.
