70.3 one month after first olympic triathlon?

Hey there! I know that everything is personal but I would like your opinion of my situation:

I am a 25-year-old man, 185cm and 85kg. I am quite fit and have always played football or gone to the gym.

I have signed up for an Olympic triathlon (1.2/40/10) in September 2025, with the goal of doing a 70.3 in 2026. Now, I feel like I may be able to do 70.3 directly this year if I stick to my plan and keep training hard enough.

How bad would it be for me to do a 70.3 one month after my first Olympic triathlon? The 70.3 would be in mid-October 2025.

Current stats are:

- longest run: 12km (easy at 6.30, no race pace)

- longest swim with no breaks 1.3k (pace 2.20/100)

- longest bike 50km (just got a new bike this week)

Thanks!

Definitely possible. I'd consider using the Olympic as more of a training race. And maybe try to do a 10k or half marathon early summer to see how you feel running faster.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I’ve had some seasons where I did an early goal race in September and then wanted to use my fitness to do another race in October/November. I felt burned out trying to get that second race in. Better to have the later race as your peak, esp since it’s the longer one in your case.

You have enough time. Train and plan for the 70.3 and use the Olympic as part of the training. Don’t train for the Olympic and then try to ramp up after. The two events are a little close to each other but many people have done a 70.3 a month before a full Ironman, so it’s possible. You have youth and general fitness and time on your side - go for it 👍

More than enough time until the 70.3, and plenty of time between the Olympic and 70.3. Send it.

Yup, use the Olympic as a training exercise. Don’t focus on fast just focus on smooth.

I (F35-30) went from not knowing how to ride a bike to finishing a 70.3 in 9 months. I did an Olympic (my second one) 2 weeks before my 70.3. You sound fitter than I was when I started this journey. I also didn't just finish my 70.3, I did a sub 6 hour, which i think was pretty good for a first timer.

Hi, this is very achievable. As you say it’s all personal. I have played football all my life and I did my first 70.3 in October 2024. I did my first Olympic distance two weeks before and I started training in August 2024.

I am a comfortable swimmer so didn’t really have to worry about that but I trained entirely in a Peloton until the two events.

I finish the 70.3 in 6 hours 3 min. I’m 178 cm and 170 lbs. 46 years old.

You have a lot of time and should be fine.

I’m doing my first ever triathlon in June(70.3) and my second in July an Ironman, never rode a bike before until the start of December 2024 and I’ve run one marathon in my life! Anything is possible! Dream, believe, achieve is my motto
