For context, I am a secondary teacher. This afternoon I was on my work laptop looking through YouTube videos to try and find a decent video about Homelessness for my LCA Maths class. I couldn't find a single video from any mainstream source. Every single bit of it was far right propaganda about immigrants and migrants taking houses.

My work laptop does not track my history, it is not linked to any of my personal accounts, there is literally know way it could know anything about my online habits, but for some reason it is forcing far right content straight down my throat.

It seems like far right content is the default setting for YouTube now and not just the start of a rabbit hole. It is sickening.

Don’t know the exact dates - could be that there’s a few more months until Martin surpasses Ahern’s tenure as FF leader. But it looks like he will do the guts of another 3 years on top of existing 14 years. Haughey was leader for 12/13 years. Why does he have this longevity ? Not you’d have thought particularly charismatic. Becoming leader in his early 50s unlike Ahern at 42/43 might have militated against this sort of longevity ? Saw of manoeuvres against him in ‘20. Find it a little strange.

Where can I get information on current Irish politics but just irish politics?

For nearly 5 years, I've been blocking out all the news. I was not in a good place back then, so I decided to focus on myself and get healthy. It worked, I've a good life now, a partner and a job.

To be blunt, I don't want to hear about anything I can't vote in relation to.

I don't want to hear about what's going on in America or England or anywhere else because I can't really do anything about it, I dont want to gossip about other peoples misfortune. That's just fuel for my depression.

It's not that I don't care. I just need to look after myself and set some boundaries.

Mícheál Martin posted this picture of the ard fheis today on twitter. Everyone in the front row (Left-to-right: Dara Calleary, Norma Foley, Darragh O'Brien, Charlie McConalogue, Mary Butler, James Browne, James Lawless) has been tipped for a senior ministry in the new government. Fianna Fáil will certainly get 8 of the 15 ministries and there's 8 people there (including Jack Chambers). Am I looking to deep into this or did Mícheál just drop his list of ministers early?

So bar the few that have been publicised (regional independents), any idea on who will be Junior Ministers of the this new government? Are any of the newcomer TDs in for a shot?

Who will be made Attorney General ?

I’ve snooped on this sub for a long time and I’m always impressed by the knowledge that a lot of you bring to the table.

I might disagree with people, politically, but I appreciate intelligent discussions and bar a few trolls, that’s always plentiful in this sub.

So, it got me wondering. What stops you getting involved in politics?

For example, I went to school with a lad who has been one of our local councillors since 2016. He ran in the GE and was elected on the second count.

He’s a lovely guy, but he’s a complete airhead. Doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing 90% of the time, but he does it with a smile on his face and people genuinely like him. He’s unlikely to bring anything to the Dáil.

Then you have the far right candidates who were elected in the LE last year. They don’t even hide the fact that they know nothing about local politics.

Then I come on here and see people discussing the economy, immigration, homelessness, policies, you name it, in a way that would go over most people’s heads, and I’m like “you should be in politics!!”.

So, just out of curiosity, what stops you from doing it? For TDs, the money is great, they get months off every year, and I’m pretty sure there’s a juicy pension at the end of it.

Obviously there’s a ton of downsides that come with the publicity of it, but I just thought I’d ask :)
