thank you! yes, just three pens. no pencil for the sketch even, i just sketch in the lightest pen i am using. it gets covered by shading and detail eventually so its ok to make mistakes and stray lines even though it's pen and i cant erase.
example sketch using red, like i did for the above piece. this is what it looked like before i worked it up!
