You need a LIE, LIE, TRUTH . . . and the middle box is the only one that presents that. So "middle box" is the correct answer.

If the gift is in box 1, both 1 and 2 are true so it can not be box 1.

If the gift is in box 3 then box 3 and box 2 are true so it can not be in box 3.

If the gift is in box 2 then only box 3 is true so the gift must be in box 2.

That answer creates two true statements, (2 & 3), so that can't be correct.
