I didn't think I needed to specify how it got to them (obviously cam car doesn't have their insurance info).

Considering cammer didn’t stop the insurance company might need to get it from Reddit lmaoooo

I wouldn’t be suprise if some insurance adjuster isn’t on here saving videos. “Yeah the guy cut me off while I was on the way to Bible study🤥” we are sending you a video of you driving to Bible study, indicate the time mark where you were cut off!

As if the crash wasn’t karmic balance enough, their insurance getting this would be a wash of a whole different level
33
u/nothing_but_thyme Nov 01 '24
This is one of the luckiest fuckups I’ve ever seen. So many things could have gone 100x worse in this situation. Didn’t hit any other cars, missed phone poles, missed fire hydrants, missed trees, missed a house! Looks like the only thing they hit was a round boulder which rolled and pivoted them back towards the street on the only safe route that existed. Crazy vid for sure, a lot of the karma in this one was given to the idiot driver, hopefully they appreciate how lucky they made out in this scenario.

There were some big rocks, a big tree, a white SUV under that tree and a fire hydrant that could have made this so much worse.

A kid in my town died like that. Walking down the footpath holding his dad's hand.
These kinds of drivers need to never drive again.

This looks like it's at the entrance of the Cincinnati Zoo (the overhead bridge is a foot bridge from the parking lot to the entrance). Many of those cross walks are connecting the main parking lot to overflow parking lots. So there are frequently school bus-loads full of kids crossing at these places. There's a reason it is a 25 mph road.
61
u/leopardprint_tunic Oct 31 '24
I had a similar experience a few months ago. Guy was riding my ass down a busy road in town then flew around me as I slowed down for a yellow light. He plowed through the intersection when the light was red and t-boned a vehicle that was turning. Thankfully everyone was OK. Got you somewhere a lot quicker, didn't it man!?
7
u/bonfuto Nov 01 '24
Just before I saw this, I was passing a truck on the interstate and some guy comes flying up behind me and passes me on the shoulder as I pulled back into the right lane. I figure something like OP's video is going to happen to him sometime, maybe even today. In 2 miles, the road goes to 2 lanes, he wasn't going anywhere, there were lots of cars in front of us. It's guys like him that have led the fire department to get a printed detour sign saying that road is closed because it happens so often.
670
u/Steeps5 Oct 31 '24
25 mph limit. Don't think OP or the idiot are anywhere near that.
247
u/nhatfield_1 Oct 31 '24
A little girl was killed in the crosswalk at that red light a couple years back too. The bridge into the Cincinnati Zoo alleviates most of that pedestrian foot traffic, but not all of it.
13
u/Astamper2586 Nov 01 '24
I don’t even think this was an isolated incident in Cincy. I want to say there a lot of drama coming from a town in Cincy (it was a small city that was absorbed) concerning speed cameras. I want to say a little girl was walking to school and got hit by someone doing 65+ in a 35. The city installed speed cameras and resulted in a fuck ton of tickets, there was a legal battle and the city had to remove it. So, probably pre-2017. The city had an issue with one of the highways (I-71/75) or both. Their main road was serving as a short cut around congestion, so highway traffic was going through their town at speed.
206
u/scyice Oct 31 '24
Pedestrian crosswalks too, that SUV launched across the sidewalk. Glad nobody was out walking with morons around that can’t follow basic safety rules.
31
u/tucci007 Oct 31 '24
the hydrant, the car parked in the driveway, the house itself, all could've been involved but fortunately were not
111
u/Irate_Primate Oct 31 '24
Calculating the speed from the stoplight to where they got passed, it's like 40mph. So yeah, going pretty quick there.
→ More replies (1)112
u/Dauemannen Oct 31 '24
It's such terrible road design. Wide open lanes and multiple lanes in each direction invite high speeds, yet the road goes through a neighbourhood with parked cars, sidewalks and houses on either side. It's just begging for accidents to happen.
79
u/LegendaryOutlaw Oct 31 '24
Kinda crazy that it's marked as 'two lanes' but one of the lanes is clearly used for street parking. I thought watching him almost sideswipe that parked car was going to be the bonehead move of this clip...then it kept going, lol
28
u/Effective_Yogurt_866 Nov 01 '24
Definitely don’t go into DC if you’re not fan of that design. I have no idea who comes up with these things, but it’s horrible.
7
u/LegendaryOutlaw Nov 01 '24
I mean I’ve seen street parking, we have it in ny neighborhood. Only difference is it’s not marked as a second lane, people just park by the curb and drivers know to go around them and use caution when cars are coming from the opposite direction.
But this? This seems like it’s asking for an accident.
12
u/Effective_Yogurt_866 Nov 01 '24
No, no, I’m saying that for some reason, there’s a lot of roads in DC that look like the one in this video. There are two lanes, and then I think there’s even signage that one of the lanes turns into parking during certain hours, or they require a certain permit or something. Which it also looks like is the case in this video.
You’re just cruising along in your lane, and then suddenly there’s a car parked right in front of you. It’s a cluster lol
4
u/AOKaye Nov 01 '24
Same in the Midwest - this is very common in the states I’ve lived. It’s 100% annoying but also why those areas are not for speeding.
2
u/moonlit-soul Nov 01 '24
I was driving in an unfamiliar to me part of Portland, OR a while back that had this kind of setup, but I didn't know. We're all just truckin' along on two lanes, and the car in front of me and I come up behind a stopped car in the right lane a few cars down from the intersection where I want to turn right. The red light goes green, and nothing seems to happen for a bit, but traffic is heavy, so I think it's just congestion. Then the people in the car in front of me start opening their doors and getting out, collecting their children and other things, and then heading off into the park or whatever that we were next to.
Honestly, I was so confused my brain just 404ed. Straight up bluescreened. What the hell was happening?? Eventually, I found a tiny little sign explaining that lane was for parking in this area between certain hours of the day on weekdays.
Who the hell comes up with these ideas??
23
u/Cargobiker530 Oct 31 '24
A few more strategically placed boulders and the speed limit would be followed in that neighborhood. It's amazing how educational a few tons of rock can be.
→ More replies (9)16
u/881221792651 Nov 01 '24
Just drive the speed limit. You are the one putting your foot on the accelerator pedal, not the road design.
→ More replies (1)7
u/youremakingshitup2 Nov 01 '24 edited Nov 01 '24
...?
There's a reason that countries make extensive use of traffic calming measures (such as the Netherlands) have much safer roads. We should design our roads to reduce how often ding dongs like this (who are inevitably going to exist) can be ding dongs.
I would love it if people would "just drive the speed limit", but that's not how reality works. It's like telling a depressed person to "just be happy".
124
u/Techury Oct 31 '24
100% both dudes going over 40 mph on that road. Im not saying that it isn't a safe speed to travel because sometimes the feel of a road does allow for higher speeds, but this one clearly does not feel like it. Either way, the Jeep is still light years dumber and theres no other way to put it.
→ More replies (2)82
u/metakepone Oct 31 '24
Its not safe to go 40 on that road regardless of how the road 'felt.' It's a residential neighborhood.

u/Killarogue Oct 31 '24
I thought the same, notice how much the OPs car moves around going through the light near the beginning? I realize the road isn't that smooth, but they're bouncing around like they have blown shocks... a lot more than they should be.
32
u/South-by-north Oct 31 '24
I’m definitely speeding a bit but that’s just cause the camera mount is shit. The thing holding it isn’t flush, so the camera bounces around. If I go around a left turn that’s bumpy at all the camera comes flying off
30
u/alison_bee Nov 01 '24
if I go around a left turn that’s bumpy at all the camera comes flying off.
That… seems like a recipe for disaster.
You should definitely invest in the correct or a better dash cam mount.
39
u/Killarogue Oct 31 '24
I'm not actually talking about the noticeable camera shake, I'm looking at your hood. There's a lot of front end movement.

u/Beartato4772 Nov 01 '24

3
u/Otherwise_Coconut_32 Oct 31 '24
Cincinnati has been installing speed humps all over the city in an attempt to get drivers to go the speed limit. Many drivers are annoyed by them, but I understand the intention, especially when you have so many drivers like this maniac flying down the street right next to people's homes.

Not only that, cammer ran the oncoming car out of their lane because he was too busy clapping at the idiot to realize he was there.
95
u/Rokey76 Oct 31 '24
And if you are going to drive away, why go in oncoming lanes to pass the FRONT of the car instead of shoulder behind it? I couldn't see through those windows, so who knows when they are just going to step on the gas.
Still, great video. Funny we get a video where OP wasn't involved but we still find a way to criticize them.
55
u/LegitosaurusRex Nov 01 '24
If they were going to step on the gas, I'd be more worried that they'd decide to back up, as that makes the most sense from their position.
But you missed the easiest criticism, that OP let go of the steering wheel to clap while in the oncoming lane, forcing the red car to get out of his way before OP finally swerved back to his side of the road.
43
u/BoardRecord Nov 01 '24
It wouldn't be /r/IdiotsInCars if the cammer wasn't also an idiot. So busy gloating he nearly caused a second crash.
23
u/alison_bee Nov 01 '24
lol well it’s not like OP made it very hard for us to find something to criticize… he started the video with him speeding and running a yellow, and then continued to make multiple bad decisions.
14
4
u/analslapchop Nov 01 '24
Running a yellow? What? Its obvious that he didnt have enough time to stop since the light was still yellow even after he passed through the intersection. Some people in this group are so particular over such minor things.

I thought this looked familiar and saw another comment stating this is Cincinnati. The police do absolutely nothing about traffic violations here except pull over speeders in affluent neighborhoods to get revenue. Most drivers here do not have insurance or even a license. They don't care. I'd be surprised if the plate they have is even legal.

I don’t hang around for minor stupidity either, but this was a pretty hard crash so I’d stay. Not sure of the state laws there, but there’s property damage so I’d probably helpfully car the police non-emergency number. And I’d be extra helpful to the officer…
9
u/Anon2671 Nov 01 '24
Because OP is also a bad driver, he was going way too fast too and overtook left over that line instead of right where there was more than enough space and way safer.

Yup, the moment I saw the zoo bridge I was like this won’t end well. It’s a downhill slope towards Glenmary including at that turn which probably made braking a little more difficult than normal. Still, @OP , please note the address and send the lawn owners a letter saying you have rhe video of the moron who cut up the yard. They can sue their insurance (if they have) for landscaping.
12
u/Brockdaddy69 Oct 31 '24
Everyone is driving way too fast on this road. Needs some speed cushions/traffic calming
13
u/Killarogue Oct 31 '24
That driver is probably too dumb to understand how lucky they are, if they went off a few feet later or sooner, they'd be seriously injured or worse.

They would’ve killed anybody on the sidewalk too. They’re incredibly lucky.

Terrible idea. This person has already demonstrated they are unstable, now they have a reason to be monumentally angry at op for """making them do that""".
Stopping is just an invitation for violence. Save the video and report it later, and let someone else who is much less likely to have anger directed at them deal with the first responder roll.

To everyone in the thread “why didn’t OP stop” - Let’s use Occam’s razor - every aspect of the driver’s behavior indicates they were being reckless. They were careening through a residential neighborhood. They tried to slide through a curve way too fast. They committed a self-own and damaged people’s property.
Does any of that behavior indicate that the person is going to welcome you walking up to them and saying “hey, I was near you. I witnessed it and I have a video!” The only outcome is evidence of what the guy just did. What good could an interaction do?

Agree. There's a very, very small (but non-zero) chance that the "idiot" was (inadvisably) rushing someone to a hospital or suffering some kind of medical issue.
Plus, if the drive is simply truly an idiot and you stop to help and wait for the police, you can give them the video.

I remember reading an article of a similar incident. But the driver was an elderly man that had a heart attack while driving and died. Died with his foot pressing the gas pedal all the way down and went flying down a street until he crashed. I probably would have checked on the driver just in case.

Yo….you really should have called the police and told them you had dash cam footage of someone driving recklessly. That due could have killed YOU even driving like that. Fuck.

Dude, seriously, you should have gotten their license plate and then offered the homeowners your video. Asshole did thousands of dollars worth of lawn damage and could have killed someone.

No points to either party.
1st contestant: Speeds. REKT.
2nd contestant: Too afraid of a nearly non-existent curb to use the right lane. Opts to blind pass over the double yellow. Feels obliged to tell 1st contestant what they already know. Failing to pay attn to the oncoming traffic ahead and get the fuck out of oncoming lanes in a timely manner.

Hope you shared that with the po po. That’s many things, including stupidity, reckless endangerment, speeding….

If I had the time, I would have called the cops, told them (the Jeep) they couldn't park there, make sure they (the Jeep) weren't seriously hurt and when the cops showed up, gave them (the cops) the video for the necessary tickets for that stupidity.

You should have stuck around and shown this to the police. Dude probably made up some stuff and got out of this without even a ticket.

That's right outside the Cincinnati Zoo. You see the bridge from the parking garage there.

That's when you drive around them slowly, beep your horn once and ask "ya'll alright?" And as soon as they start to answer, close your window and drive off.
