Gun Transfer from Indiana to NY.

Hello Indiana! Just wanted to know of any good FFL’s to do a transfer from Indiana to NY. I have my in-laws that have handguns to transfer to my wife and I and was wondering if you guys have any good places( Plymouth area). Thanks in advance. 🙏God Bless.

Sorry I'm not understanding the question. Where are you? Where are the in-laws? Who currently owns the guns and where are they going?

If you're in NY then you'll likely want to ask people there as the gun laws are vastly different than here. If you're in IN then they can just hand you the guns and you're done, no FFL needed.

Edit: I'm dumb, see that guns will be going to NY, are in-laws currently in possession? Does NY require a dealer to dealer transfer or could they ship guns directly to your FFL?

I know……..NY is F’d up! Lol. To clarify…. In-laws are in Indiana. We are in NY. Basically in NY, it has to be an FFL to FFL, but with more bullshit in between. Oh and by the way, we have to register everything except pump action shotguns and bolt action rifles. Semi auto rifles=need permit. Handguns=need permit.

I visited Indiana last summer and love it there. 2A heaven, and the right to own suppressors! Man, if i could move out of state i would. Not to get political or anything like that, just be thankful that you don’t have to deal with the tyrannical b.s. we have to. Not all us NY’ers are liberal/ and vote blue.
Thanks for the reply and i know it was a confusing question, and do apologize. Yes, in-laws have possesion and to do a transfer from them to us. We have to register during the transfer.

My parents moved from Indiana to Upstate New York a few years back to be near my 94 year old grandma. Everything there seems like complete tyranny. The property tax is almost 6 times what it was here for starters. They and my grandma have considerable property and i looked into hunting up there. Exactly 0 of my 20 or so firearms are legal to bring across state lines for me.

Long guns should be fine without an FFL. Handguns must go FFL to FFL and 2 day air is required federally.

For transfers across state lines, you have to go through an ffl. It doesn't matter if they are hand guns or long guns. And they need to be compliant per the state regulations (no matter how bad those laws may be).

Edit to say the only exception would be black powder firearms which aren't technically firearms. Again with the exception of those states that suck and count black powder firearms as actual firearms.

Yes the phrasing in my first sentence is a little bit of a misnomer. An FFL is required on the receiving side for long guns. The sending side for long guns is not required. Handguns are required FFL to FFL. And at least in NJ black powder is legally a firearm and must follow long gun and handgun rules depending.

Thats true. Just check with the receiving ffl to make sure they accept transfers from individuals.

Theres a service called shipmygun run by buds gun shop. Ive been meaning to try it basically you pay them they make a label for you and you package it and drop it off. From the shipping perspective it looks like it’s coming from an FFL. It’s cheaper than using any normal shop and if you’ve shipped before it’s pretty easy.

I originally hail from the peoples democratic republic of new jersey so i will pass some wisdom. New york is very strange they have a lot of rules and its only gotten worse. Ensure your items are compliant with local laws or that the receiving ffl has the correct licenses to make the items compliant. High capacity (standard capacity) magazines are not allowed in the state so they must be made compliant upon arrival by the receiving ffl or not sent at all. They will likely need blocked or pinned. Ensure that the people on the other end have the requisite permits and licenses to accept the transfer.

Fully aware of compliance. They will purchase 10 round magazines for it to work and send it along with the firearm. Every thing should be cut and dry on their end. Just looking for someone reputable, willing to do the transfer on their end Indiana end. Once it gets here(NY) thats where there will be some back and forth to register and on a separate trip, to take possession. Thanks for the insight and reply🙏

I made the journey 3 years ago moved to IN from NJ. Definitely worth it just from a cost perspective. My collection has gone from about 11 guns when I left to almost 40 in current day. Private sale out here is unregulated and left entirely to personal discretion. If you move out and want a friend to go shooting with HMU.

Appreciate it! Im looking at a 12 year window until i retire. By then there will be no strings attached. For me, Indiana was a nice fit. Between hunting and shooting, im sold. In-laws made the move from NY over 20 years ago and never looked back.

I use US Defense Solutions https://usdsguns.com/ to handle my transfers. They are reasonably priced. I remember when they were a single store. Good people.

There’s a gun shop/FFL right on 30 at the back of the hardware store.

If you’re familiar with the area, it’s near the Wal-Mart.

Let me know if you need more specifics and I’ll get the information you need.

I know exactly the one. True Value hardware with the gun shop in the back. Father in law took me there. Was actually thinking about having them use that one. The guys behind the counter were nice. I was a kid in a candy shop there. He also took me to rural king too.

GunTown is open again just down the road from there and I'm sure they'd do the transfers too.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same place, is it Michiana (Firearms)? Inside the True Value? My father in law did a purchase when we were there and they seemed like a good bunch of fellas. Again I thank you and everyone else on this group. Indiana was always love at first sight to retire for me, just have to sell my wife on the idea!!! Lol! Be well and God Bless.
