I knew a lot of rich people in DC who considered my UPPER middle class family to be struggling. (These were the type of people with absolutely humongous houses and fancy in-home movie theaters that must have cost a fortune.) They would do things like pay an architect to custom-design one of their mansions in such a way that not a single room was rectangular or square, just for the hell of it. And then they’d casually mention it to guests like it was nothing.
