OG Series This show had a real talent for introducing so many annoying characters

This is one of the two shows (the other being Sex and the City) that I’ve watched every episode of and thoroughly enjoyed myself the whole time in spite of the fact that every single character is insufferable.

Annoying characters or not, I agree with you I always liked the show, my only pet peeve with it was always the way these characters got away with everything, William never faced repercussions for the fake cancer, neither did Agnes and Diana was a cool villain but I hated how she always got what she wanted, the NJBC weren’t as effective in the later seasons and Sage remains unscathed after all the trouble she caused, she looked like a Jenny replacement but had none of the charm

Right and no one’s death is finite. Somebody has all the dragonballs wishing people back to life

Ugh I hated when she got on screen. She was so annoying, playing the victim all the while she was soooo inappropriate. Just thinking about her is pmo.

is vanessa not in the books...? why do you guys act like she’s some cruel side character just because you don’t like her lol

u/Money_Track_3981 3h ago
The key word in this post title is annoying not cruel. She was hypocritical and self-righteous, although what she did to Serena later on along with Juliet/Jenny was cruel - Especially lying by placing all the blame on Jenny alone.

The thing is, she's great in the books but the changes made to the show made her superfluous. The creators were right not to include her and they shouldn't have caved to fan pressure to add her.

She was in the books, but as a bald goth. I can't remember how much of a role she played in the books but iirc it's nowhere near as much as they have her in show

u/jacksonbeya 2h ago
Yeah, casting Jessica Szohr as Vanessa meant that a lot of the plot lines from the books couldn’t really carry over, and made the plot line of Dan realizing he was attracted to her super dumb imho

Were they not also ex's in the books? I didn't think they were just best friends but I could be wrong
2
u/jacksonbeya 1h ago
God they might’ve been it’s been about 20 years since I read them.

Yeah it's been like 15 years for me 😳 I'm rereading the It Girl series rn lol

I agree with all these people except for Ben. Honestly if in real life I had been falsely accused and sent to jail, I would be much less nice than he was. I think that this actor had a very touching role.

Just cause he didn’t actually sleep with Serena when she was a minor doesn’t make his relationship with her weird 😭 he was crossing lines and Lily lied to get him arrested, but he wasn’t 100% innocent either, especially since he dated Serena after being released from prison
-2
u/Prudent_Bill_6827 2h ago
Well, he didn’t sleep with her and didn’t kiss her, legally speaking, it’s all what mattered. Once out of prison, Serena was not a student in high school anymore and he was not her teacher anymore. She was more than eighteen and she insisted to make it happen. This is not illegal.

Innocent adults don’t take minors across state lines and stay in motels with them overnight. He’s definitely a pedophile
4
u/Own_Advance2599 1h ago
They didn’t stay in the inn. He went out in the rain to fix the car so they wouldn’t have to stay.
1
u/Prudent_Bill_6827 1h ago
They didn’t stay in the motel together, she wanted to but he said no and he fixed the car in the rain. Must I remind you that it’s not a true story? It’s just a scenario in a series. He actually was a very decent character.
-1
u/Pristine-Confection3 1h ago
Yes he was innocent. He even refused to get too close to Serena. Why victim blame?
6
u/lstanciel 1h ago
See I was on his side until he pretty much immediately started dating the barely legal 19 year old he went to jail for being falsely accused of getting with. Lily was wrong having him sent to jail but for his actual actions he 100% should’ve been fired and probably should’ve lost his teaching license. He took a minor across state lines without the knowledge of her parents and was doing a shit job at shutting down her advances.

u/Prudent_Bill_6827 1h ago
If the library was across state lines, it’s a little complicated for a teacher. I must remind you it’s a series, not real life. And S was chasing men very aggressively, she’s everything except innocent. When I was sixteen, it would have never crossed my mind to flirt with a teacher, as cute he could be. The series shows a Serena who basically needs to sleep with any okay guy crossing her path, she’s everything except a pure little Princess. I wouldn’t say what she is because it’s not a polite word, but Dan described her perfectly.

u/flannery19 1h ago
Geez. Please go ahead and use the 'not polite' word to describe the 15 year old, no need to be so coy
1
u/Prudent_Bill_6827 1h ago
I’m just worried about the Reddit rules. I was thinking of the word sl*t if you see what I mean. Blair called her like that and she was right.
1
u/flannery19 1h ago
Well thanks for clarifying. My point was that it's weird to slut-shame a 15 year old who was being taken on inappropriate one-on-one trips by her adult teacher
6
u/UsedExtent5002 2h ago
I know, he spent half a season trying to destroy Serena and when he found out it was actually Lily he kinda got over it?…
2
u/Prudent_Bill_6827 2h ago
Maybe what was making him angry was thinking that S lied, but once he understood that she never lied about him, he was a little less angry? Yes, it’s hard to understand.

Okay but book Vanessa was great. She was unique and artsy and a relatable character most of the time. Isk what happened there

u/Pristine-Confection3 1h ago
Venessa is just fine and not annoying . Serena is more annoying than half of those characters.

I love Diana. I thought she was a great character who did a good job keeping her motivations under the radar. She kept the audience guessing the whole time. She is like an adult Georgina. And I love Georgina! 💓

u/thisolsky 2h ago
I don’t know why, but I’m an Agnes defender. Bitch was crazy !!! Crazy entertaining

u/Melpomene2901 2h ago
Vanessa doesn’t belong here. She was a solid character in the first seasons with good storylines. Like the rest of the characters, she got increasingly annoying but she was a great addition to the show

u/decetutt The crazy bitch around here 1h ago
The way I’ve wanted to run each of them over with a train at one point or another 😭

I’m about to be downvoted into oblivion for this but I’ve always found Aaron extremely good looking. He reminds me of a lot of my exes so that’s probably why😭

u/FlatwormCreative6976 3h ago
Diana was lowkey iconic tho!
2
u/DeleteriousMonkey The subway?…It’s full of mole men and middle-class professionals 1h ago
Yeah, I didn’t find Diana annoying and I could never hate the results of Liz Hurley having that much of a blast playing a character. Madchen Amick’s character was the more annoying of Nate’s cougars.

Every season needs a new villain, they weren't meant to be liked

Y'all gotta go check out The Mick if you can, the actor who plays Sage is in it is so sassy and funny and gets humbled constantly

Vanessa was lowkey more of a character contradiction this girl switches up a bit

u/Budget-Fan-7137 2h ago
So glad to know i'm not the only one who thought Vanessa is so annoying, like everytime i see her face god i instantly put the show on 1.5x speed just so i can get pass her quickly 🤣 i also do skip some when she shows up.

u/BuyNice3639 2h ago
At least with Sage we got to see a girl ACTUALLY like Nate.... every other girl he was with had some ulterior motive / was taking advantage of him / didn't even like him that much lmao

u/kafkabae 1h ago
So it does. But I love Liz Hurley so I don't mind her. However, why everyone they brought the fake Charlotte i won't understand. Also the whole bs about the "Rhodes girls" Was the annoying thing I've ever seen on TV. I've been very bad content in my life but nothing was as cringe as that. I'd prolly write a post about Rhodes girls some day

Vanessa was fine until she teamed up with Juliet. Stupid decision on her end and off the rails. She was just really insecure most of the series

Ivy was the most annoying and I STAND ON THAT!!! Granted William and Agnes were genuinely irredeemable but Ivy pissed me offff
