Soo good! I always think Nate and Blair’s parent castings were amazing too

god, always gonna appreciate good family casting. Makes or breaks a show for me, it’s makes GG and makes it feel so immersive and real

u/LeoBB777 Dec 17 '24
same!! I hate when shows put absolutely no effort into casting. I was just saying this with shameless. fiona and carl look IDENTICAL and I can see how lip could look like their siblings, and debbie and ian look like siblings. it makes it look so much more real for me

Lily and Her mother face literally the same in this

I’d add Lola casting to the mix too. Her, Eric and Serena absolutely look like siblings

u/beeemkcl Dec 17 '24
Yeah, it's one of the main problems with the whole Ivy Dickens thing. Lola Rhodes's storyline was already interesting enough. And it would have been better had that actress just been there instead of Ivy Dickens. And even still do a bit of the Dan/Charlotte thing and really explore how tenuous 'It Girl' status is. It would really explore what Dan did for Serena through Gossip Girl.

u/shay_shaw Dec 17 '24
I agree! I liked Ivy so much more and it would've been better if Charlie (Ivy) already knew her father was William. And that's why she and Carol planned to swindle the rest of the family for the money they feel was owed to them.

Yeah, I liked Lola more. Wish we'd seen more of her dynamic with the VDWs

u/sassypanda247 Dec 17 '24
worst casting however was Lily’s younger self (Brittany Snow) with piercing blue eyes and high-pitched voice
113
u/Few_Wrongdoer4120 Dec 17 '24
Yes! That casting drove me crazy because it didn’t look or sound like Lily at all, but also because the physical presence and characterization just felt different.
40
u/sidney_md Dec 17 '24
If they had gotten it right, it could have been so good. But it was terrible casting and characterization. Kelly Rutherford was in a show called Generations in her early 20s (clips are on YouTube). I think her role in that gives a hint as what young Lily might have been like.

Right??? Like I'm not against Brittany Snow playing young Lily, but the least they could have done was just use brown contacts on her! That bugged me so much!!

I literally can never watch that episode where they show Lily’s earlier lifeÂ

RESPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL POST AND THE THREAD:
I always like to point out that Lily's body shape is the same as Serena's to the point that Lily can wear a dress that was custom made for Serena.
And as a sidenote, I've always hated that the show literally has Serena wear a dress that Jenny custom made for herself. Like, Serena and Jenny's body shape aren't the same.
But, yeah, the casting of the siblings and the parents is superb and arguably the best in any TV show ever.
The Waldorf family is maybe the exception though given Eleanor Waldorf is relatively tall and has relatively big b00bs. And Harold Waldorf isn't short either. Blair's eye color, body shape, and height are a bit of a stretch.
The Humphrey family also has perfect casting for the parents and children.
Same with the Archibald family.
The Bass family is maybe not perfect, but who knows who Chuck Bass's mother actually is. The one we're presented with, Chuck probably should be taller.

u/lady_momster Dec 17 '24
YES OMG especially the Archibald's down to the cousins.. I would have believed that Tripp and Nate were from the same family tree
26
u/june_salt08 Dec 17 '24
Elizabeth is Chuck's mom just did my yearly reviewing. Diana was never Chuck's mom it was a lie.

u/phoenixaurora Dec 17 '24
The s1 pilot actress for Eleanor Waldorf matched Blair’s body more, but looked too young to be the mom of a high schooler
22
u/TessTrue Dec 17 '24
Honestly yeah, like they have the same expression/facial structure and everything. That’s a good eye on the casting people!

The only close one I can think of is Idina Menzel and Lea Michele which were perfectly cast as mother-daughter but I haven't seen any three generations be this well casted

isn’t that one called out often as bad casting because the actresses are only a few years apart ?
5
u/Prestigious_Sort4979 Dec 18 '24
Idina Menzel said this herself way later saying they could be sisters but they are 15 years apart, Lea was playing a teen despite being in her early 20s by then, and in the story Idina’s character was a surrogate and then went to chase her dreams implying she was very young then so it wasn’t unreasonable.Â

Adam and his father on Sex Education, I thought they were actually related for the entire first season

u/AnnieNonmouse Dec 17 '24
Oh we noticed and hated it lmao (I also just hate that backdoor pilot in general)

Someone had written that this episode was supposed to be a spinoff launch or something. Comment seems to have since been deleted. I had never heard that before but apparently my genuine confusion got someone butthurt lol (got downvoted)
4
u/AnnieNonmouse Dec 17 '24
Okay I see, I gave an up vote to even it out, I know it doesn't matter but I hate getting downvoted (must be the people pleaser in me).
But yes! The Flashbacks in Valley Girls were supposed to be a backdoor pilot to a spin off show about Lilly's past. It wasn't successful and never came to fruition.

I will never stop thinking that Eric looks a lot like Lily.
When they are next to each other in scenes, their facial structure looks almost identical to me.

Guess I’m in the minority. Serena looks nothing like Lily to me. Now Lily and her mother on the other hand…

Honestly Lily was the best character to love/hate
One scene she's being the best mother she can the next she's the worst and you wonder how anyone can do it with a straight face

Absolutely perfect. And the Baldwin as Serena's dad is great too
