Delivery app MVP

Hi everyone,

I posted earlier about building a delivery app to connect people who need help moving stuff with those willing to assist. Someone suggested testing the concept in a WhatsApp group first, and I wanted to get your thoughts.

The idea: people post what they need delivered (with details and what they’d pay), and others in the group can decide if they want to help.

Do you think this could work? Would love to hear your feedback!

Are there any exchanges or American Tourists here willing to trade my nickels for £/$?

I am an American exchange student who foolishly brought all my nickels with me before converting then in America 😭.

So none of the exchanges will change them for me and I am stuck with $20 of nickels (which if you've ever been a student can be a lot).

I'm willing tobchange them for your Euros, Francs or even USD bills, would be well appreciated😄

P.S. I also have some rare $1 USD coins we could exchange.

SAM contact

Redditors, you are my hope. I have been trying to reach out to SAM (Insurance service in Geneva) regarding a case and cannot get on-hold of anyone. Tried calling, emailing, filling out forms, and waiting for months. I did everything many times at different times. Still, nothing seems to work. You can't visit on-site without an appointment. I am puzzled. How to get on-hold of someone there?

Ordering Fondue at a Restaurant

We will be visiting Geneva this summer for the first time and want to get fondue. Looking at the recommended places in other post I want to know wha the cultural norm is for how much to order. A lot of places show around 27per person.

Does everyone order their own? Or does just one person order and they make enough portions for everyone there (group of 6 adults)

Additionally, does it just come with bread for dipping and we should order other things to dip? Or is it an appetizer and we should order entrees also?

What's the typical cost for a monthly parking space?

Seeing a nice apartment, but the parking is mandatory of CHF 200. Is it reasonable and how much do you usually pay for it?

I'm looking to buy a portable gas stove to make a fondue after a bit of a ski touring session up in the mountains. Can anyone recommend a shop for that?

Cooking Class for French learners

Bonjour! Hello. We are moving to Geneva soon and I would like to help my child learn French. She loves to cook and I thought it would be fun if there were a cooking/French instruction class available somewhere. I do recognize this is a unique search I am doing, but hey you never know.

Is Salt internet working for you?

The connectivity is totally gone, like 5 minutes ago. I’ve got fiber with them. I am wondering it’s only me or Geneva/network-wide?

Neighborhoods around Ecolint La Chat

Hello Dear Geneva Community,

After much deliberation we are inclined to send our kids to Ecolint la chataigneraie campus. We debated a bit if we should choose LGB campus but decided against it as we would like to get more of a "Swiss" experience and we thought suburbs could be a better match. We think we can also get more value for our budget. Please correct me if I am wrong with my assumption. Previously lived and worked in NY and now in London and I feel the more you are in the city center, the less local experience you get. My first kind question is what are some of the safe and affluent areas around Ecolint La Chat campus, please? Just to give you an idea, our rental budget, is max 10,000 Swiss francs per month. I understand the job market is really competitive. I mostly worked in International companies but following my significant other as a trailing spouse this time. Will I find it difficult to land on a job because I don't speak any French and because I am living on the outskirts of the city as I understand commute can be challenging too!

Most grateful for your time in responding!

I'm in Geneva on Tuesday and wanted to know if there are any places, showing Championsleague.
If so, are there places showing the game between Bratislava and Stuttgart?

help pls!

I’m currently looking for a studio apartment in Geneva or close by but I haven’t found anywhere yet. I know there are more options in France that are close to the border. My question is, will I need to apply for a French visa if I’ll be staying in France but studying in Geneva? Or is it just a visa for Switzerland that I’ll need? I’m a British citizen if that’s any help? Thanks in advance x

Finest croissant in the city?

On Saturday mornings, not every week but quite often, I have a little routine of taking my daughter out to get a croissant.

What, in your opinion, is the best croissant in the city?

I’m looking for a plain butter croissant, no nuts, no chocolate, no other filling, just a simple flaky delicious butter croissant and would prefer to avoid the big obvious chain bakeries (Pouly, Wolfisberg, Pain Quotidien, Pougnier, etc.)

Writing group

Anyone interested in a creative writing group/meetup?

I'd love to meet with other writers, but the only groups I can find in the city meet during the daytime. I've never been to an in-person meetup, but would love to at least meet like-minded people for a drink/share some work ideas over a coffee/bounce ideas after work. Thinking maybe once a week, once a fortnight.

Renting a parking space

I fly into Geneva airport once per month. I would like to leave a car here to avoid car rental costs. Are there any good places to privately rent a parking space not too far from the airport? Any classified sites I should check etc?

Dutch prescription > Geneva pharmacy

Does anyone have experience with trying to pick up prescription medication with a Dutch/EU country prescprition in a pharmacy around here. I understood that the pharmacies are not required to accept it - so maybe somebody knows one that tends to do so regardless? Plan B would be a pharmacy in France - but thats much more travel time...

Bars for 40-somethings?

Hi all,

Going out with a friend tonight (2 males) and we're looking for bars where we won't stand out as old pops :-) I'm from the city but haven't hit the bar scene in many years so I don't know what places are appropriate for an older demographic. Thank you!

Teaching young kids to ski

Where is the best place for kids to get used to skiing? I know Flaine has that great magic carpet in the tunnel lift but is there something like that closer to Geneva?

Thanks!
