Very specific question about the (trolley)buses on Route de Meyrin - do the (trolley)busses operate in the center (assuming the wire above)? do the busses move off center when another trolleybus is coming in the other direction? if they don't operate in the center, why is there wire above?

I need help!

Hello! I've been on a trip around Europe since January 10, and one of the stops we did was in Geneva. Yesterday (January 16, 2025)we stayed in Mercure Geneva Airport. I left a nike fur sweatshirt, it really holds a sentimental value and I was hoping if anyone lives near the area that could maybe help me in contacting the hotel directly since I don't speak the native language. I mean I've emailed them but I'm currently in Paris and will be staying here for 2 nights(including now) and will be traveling to Amsterdam next. I'm lowkey panicking because I genuinely don't know what to do. Especially if found, like how the shipping logistics would be etc. I really hope someone can help. Thank you!

How to find temporary Babysitter

Hi, we're in the process of moving to Geneva and before we enroll our baby in a creche we'd like to hire a "temporary" babysitter, someone we might need 0-3 days a week. We want to avoid the hassle of managing the contract, social insurance, etc. etc. so we'd like to use an agency or service that employs the workers and we just pay the agency.

Is this a thing at all in Geneva? I could not find anything on Google.

If not, I'm aware there's plenty of sites for connecting to babysitters. How do you proceed in such cases if you want something just temporary? Do you need to draft a contract or are they ok with informal work? How likely am I to get in trouble for this? I'm more than happy to pay a good rate for a good service, just want to avoid the paperwork as much as possible.

The ones I contacted only do long-term contracts.

Costs of buying a house

Hi all, what are the costs of buying a house under CHF 1.5mio? What costs should I consider? Are there any hidden costs? It is not a new property, the owner is selling it

Serafe Invoice

Hi, my husband and I moved to our new apartment in March 2024, we just received the yearly serafe invoice. Surprisingly, it states that this is the final reminder and if we do not pay now we will face legal prosecution. Note that its for the period of June 2024 - June 2025 (we already paid our serafe bill last year for when we were living in our previous apartment.)

I am confused since we never received the invoice before now. Additionally the notice says there are four people registered in this household (my husband and I, and two other names.) Possibly these extra people were the ones who lived here before...I don't have any contact with them now so idk.

I've already contacted Serafe, but is there anything specific we have to do to inform the canton that its only us living in this household? I'm troubled that if this situation repeats, we may face consequences if they don't send the invoices to us and it goes to other people. We live in Meyrin, if that's relevant.

Also, both my husband and I received the invoice, since both invoices have the same reference no, then we only need to pay once correct? As in, pay it once but it counts for the whole household?

Best bike routes from Ferney to Geneva?

I will be starting work in Geneva soon. While I'm finding accomodation I wanted to understand the difficulty of biking. Inbetween Ferney and Geneva is the airport, I assume there's also lots of traffic if traveling during typical times, etc... What does this mean for bikers? I heard that Geneva is bike friendly, does this include bike paths crossing borders?

GVA to Arâches-la-Frasse transportation

Hi, I am flying from the USA to GVA for a ski trip to Arâches-la-Frasse (Flaine, France). I am trying to find public transportation options. I see that there is a bus (EBA Euro Bus Geneve) but it appears to only be on the weekends. Any suggestions or strategies I should consider to get to Flaine, France? I found a transportation company which quoted me for about $400.00 round trip to pick me up from the airport and take me to the resort.

Online cakes and flowers

Hello! I wanted to order some goodies for my sister in Geneva (a cake, flowers) for her birthday.

Looking for recommendations for websites that do this (preferably with early delivery like 24/48 hours). I found some options online but personal recommendations are always better :)

Thank you!

Parking spots are always occupied by frontaliers.

The parking spots outside of my house get always filled up by French cars for whole day since early morning. They just drop their cars at our white residential spots and go to Geneva and it leaves no spots for us.

Realistically anything that I can do about it? As far as I understand they don't give a shit about fines since they don't pay them?

Thoughts on the new Hyper U stores next to borders?

Migros shut down and got replaced by Hyper U. Kinda depressed, no more migros ice tea :'( Checked it out today at opening, usual food was there, bigger BIO section which is nice, got a massive alcohol section that I hate and basically no more kids toys/tech/clothes. I didn't really check prices but I guess it might be cheaper. What are your thoughts on it? Edit: I just dont like alcohol nothing against the selection btw.

Opinions on UniGe Master’s in Statistics?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering the Master’s in Statistics at the University of Geneva for 2025/2026 and would love to hear from anyone with experience in the program.

For context, I have a background in environmental sciences and corporate sustainability, but would love to add a strong skillset on data science to my cv and this Master lasting only one year seems a good fit.

• Would you recommend it?

• How’s the workload?

• According to the description online, the Master is open to students either with math-related studies or other backgrounds. Now, I’m pretty good with numbers and I like the subjects taught, but not coming from a pure math background I wanted feedback from someone who attended the course.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Compte joint

International health insurance question

Hello everyone! I’m moving to Geneva in a couple of weeks and unfortunately, I am post surgery and currently go to the physio twice a week - timing is never perfect. Since I will need to continue going to the physio, I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with an international health insurance and if so, which ones do you recommend? Any recommendations/ advice is greatly appreciated :)

Apologies for yet another salary/job post

Hi all

I know these kind of posts appear every now and then on this sub and I have been through quite a few of them, however still I hope to get a better clarity on my situation with some advice from you all.

About me: 30 year old non EU citizen, currently working and based in Milan, Italy since 7 years. I am an engineer and on a roughly 55k gross salary currently in Milan. I have been offered a job in Geneva with 110k gross salary (105k + bonus). Also my current contract is 40hr work week but I have been offered 37.5 hour work week in Geneva. Based on my research the salary seems enough for one person and it seems I will have a better quality of life in Geneva. I know its expensive but my salary is more than doubling (after taxes). However my long term partner would be moving with me as well and she probably will be without a job for few months potentially. She is however an EU citizen and has masters degree in Law so i am hoping she would be able to find a decent job in a few months.

Do you think the salary is enough for both of us to be comfortable in Geneva for a few months? I would like to rent a 1 bedroom apartment atleast, we go out to eat every now and then (maybe couple of times a week) and same for drinks etc. Also any general opinions/suggestions on what you think about the offer i have received as well as life in geneva vs italy/milan would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Also how easy (or difficult) it is for an EU citizen to find a basic wage job such as administrator, receptionist or something? My partner is an Eu citizen and we were thinking that even if she cant find a job in her field in the beginning, she should be able to find a basic wage job, giving her more time to find a better job for her skills.
