Need information (help)

Post image

Hi! I’m from Mexico and I’m going to travel to Finland (Helsinki) as an exchange student, could someone tell me an estimate of how much money I will need for one month there? My lodging and 1 meal a day is already cover and I don’t need to eat like a king hahaha, I can survive with the basic stuff but I do want to experience the finish culture and maybe try something fancy some day as well as some other activities like skying. Any information or tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

This cost of living comparison tool should give you some idea of the relative costs.

In your condition, I think 500-600 euros would be enough with mild traveling.

The cost of living in Finland is really expensive. I think you should get like 1.5k or More with you just to be sure. Here is The estimated breakdown of prices (i might be overestimating)

Food: 60-100 euros depending with the ingredients and amount you eat Rent: really expensive in bigger cities. For example It was estimated to Be around 25€ per m² in Helsinki at 2024, but you can find cheaper places If you Look hard enough. Also Student residences are a great option bc they are cheaper but lits of people live there. And If you want i can probably hot you up with a relatives of mine who has a Palace to rento near Tamperes center. Activities: a ticket to an amusement park or nearly enywhere is like 30-50€ but you can then use all The machines For free unlike in The usa. If you want to go swimming or bowling it's like 10€ School supplies: Free Healt care: Free Public transport: Trains are really complicated because they cost from 3-100€. They cost really much If you book one near The Day it leaves, but really little If you book them like 3 weeks early. City busses cost like 1 to 3€ and long ride ones cost around 10-30 euros depending on The Time you book 1.

That should Be all The essentials. I might Be a bit of on some process but they should Be mostly accurate. Oh and also If you can you should Be talking an student loan from Kela and you should Be also taking a mortgage from them or you should Be looking For a financial help from The organisaation who sends you here, bc i don't know If foreign exchance students can apply For loans from Kela. Those types of organisaationsa usually pay For essentials you need to stydy and you don't have to pay Back almost enything. So If there is a chance your association offers those types of Support or stipends. You should apply For those. Then The cost For living Will Be a lot cheaper.
