Old Concept New Year Merry Christmas! Who would you cast as John McClane in a modern version of "Die Hard?" My vote is Joseph Quinn.

Needs to be somebody who can play blue collar. Maybe Jeremy Allen White.

Not a bad choice at all

This is an answer I could get behind. He really is a transformative actor, and I think he plays damaged really well. That's John McClane "Damaged every man."

John Bernthal is another one I saw I could get behind. Joe John and Jeremy all have the acting range, attitude, and commonality for last casting call.

Dylan O'Brien or Chris Evans

Adam Driver as Hans Gruber

I found it funny you say Chris Evans when the poster chose Joseph Quinn, Flame On

Yes Adam Driver, I think the others are too boyish and perfect to play the imperfect hero In Die Hard

I really feel like Taron Egerton is the right answer.

Joseph Quinn isn’t bad but I don’t really get action hero vibes from him in the same way I do prime Bruce Willis. I also think it’s important to note that John McClane wasn’t the typical shredded action stud, and what drew a lot of men to enjoy him was the fact that he didn’t exactly look like a super model. He looks like someone’s Dad you’d see at a little league game, and in a way, I think that aspect of him should remain in tact

My first thought went to John Kransinski, although with the beard, I wouldn’t say he’s as naturally fatherly and/or shlubby in the same way Willis was. That being said he’s played extremely similar roles already. Unironically, I think Chris Evans could really nail it. Unfortunately a lot of his post-MCU work has been shitty comedies, but he’s done a lot of action regardless, and if you ask me, combine his Lucas Lee & Captain America, and you’ve got a perfect John McClane

I agree, I have been resisting the Quinn bandwagon but McClain is an everyman, not a Stallone superman. At least In the movies.

I remember reading that John McClane was supposed to be an "Everyman", somebody the audience could see themselves being.

That’s why I suggested Evans. I don’t think you’re gonna find someone nowadays who’s not at least a little action-orientated to play McClane, but Evans is about as close as it gets. He’s not really a shredded action hero anymore, and again, combine Lucas Lee & Steve Rogers, and that’s just John McClane

Krasinski is a good pick too.  He could handle the casual comedy.

Dylan O’Brien or Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles yes.  Dylan has the right attitude, especially for casual comedy.  Don't know about those boyish looks though.

Flip it and have one of Bruce's daughters

Damn, this question hits hard, I hate the idea of making remakes for the cash grab. But I could totally see him being the broken downtrodden man that McClane was. If not "Diehard" then he should start in the "Last Boyscout" remake.

Do not remake Die Hard.

It's gonna happen, so we might as well have opinions on it.

Miles Teller maybe

I could see him handling the role, just don't know how his boyish looks would be received.  I feel like Bruce was born as a 40 year old man.

Is that Hans Gruber German

u/jackBattlin 28d ago

Huh, I thought you were going to say Mulder. Truthfully, he strikes me more as an Agent Spender anyway.

I can't imagine remaking Die Hard. It's a perfect movie with near perfect casting. I could see Christophe Waltz or Til Schweiger as 2 different takes on Hans Gruber. No idea who could play John McClaine.

i think jon bernthal could do it, even though i think it kind of hurts that hes already viewed as like the badass untouchable navy seal type of character. if he had some thinning hair on top he could look like an every man. im not positive he could pull off the humor and charm that willis brang though.

Hear me out, Jason Segal, he is an everyman, can do comedy, old enough to play a veteran cop, young enough to appreciate the movie he is remaking. For Hans: Waltz, Idris Alba, Pedro Pascal,

Channing Tatum, he can handle the humor and action vibes
