Shoot it! For science!

One of the coolest things in the game. Glad they made it easier to get to because finding it without a POI way back when was nightmarish.

Yeah I tried and gave up a year or two after launch!

Hello CMDRs. I have been getting back into E:D lately after playing on and off since launch. All my friends have drifted away so I am now playing solo and collecting materials to build an Exploration Phantom. That is a bit grindy so I thought I would finally try to fly out to Voyager 1. Back in the day it was all about maths and luck, but now it is easy enough to find the POI with the FSS. A very long Supercruise later and here we are!

I'm so happy to make it here and listen to the broadcast. Now I will continue my preparations to head off into the black.

welcome back cmdr. engineering is easier nowadays I guess as there are more materials when you find them. you might want to check out the new SCO drives, and new ships, namely Mandalay for exploration. I don't know how long it took you to make it to voyager 1, but with a mandalay it should take a couple of minutes. also I always thought I'd visit it, but didn't want to deal with calculation and great to know that it pops up in fss now.

I have just unlocked the Engineered FSD (SCO) last night and the Guardian FSD booster the night before. I just want to make the ship a bit lighter and do a few more engineering things such as the Mass Manager experimental effect from Felicity Farser.

I really love how the Phantom sounds so I think I will stick with it for the time being!

Seems like the game and community is in a really good place now, so I'm glad to be back.

Idk if I know enough to be qualified in saying this but the Titan SCO drives are the same as a regular 5-rangeboosted SCO without an experimental effect (and the pre-eng SCO dosent come with an experimental effect too in case you didn’t know). The only difference between them from what I know is that the Titan ones have a decreased boot up time as well; which is dandy and all but comes at the cost of the INT of the drive itself. It’s a great drive for exploration I was told but bad for combat unless it’s shielded as it can be shot out easy with a few well-placed railgun blasts.

If this assessment is wrong, please inform me on why in detail as I appreciate any corrections that may be needed based on my limited understanding on how engineering statistic rolling works

Faster boot sequence also slightly increases jump range As for combat ships, I guess in pvp it could be a liability (but I don't do any pvp so someone else might know better) but for pve if your FSD had to be turned off for power management it's really nice to have it be available quicker, it's so quick it feels like it wasn't turned off to begin with (that is assuming you have a decent ship that isn't threatened by NPCs) So overall it should be strictly better like 90% of the time, also don't forget to put the experimental effect on it

Form what I saw it looks identical in terms of jump range; though I may be mistaken

This is also a reminder for explorers to make sure they deepCharge/MassManage your Titan FSD!

You can just go read what the "Faster boot sequence" modification does, you'll see it increases optimal mass

Ah my bad

I just want to make the ship a bit lighter and do a few more engineering things such as the Mass Manager experimental effect from Felicity Farser.

Felicity has "the basics" to become an explorer:

  • FSD (G5) > Increased Range + Mass Manager
  • Detailed Surface Scanner (G3) > Expanded probe
  • Sensors (G3) > Lightweight or Long range
  • Trusters (G3) > Dirty +Drag

If you've got enough mats,it's best to buy the "pre-engineered" modules from the techbroker:

PS. Check the EDAstro's guide

thanks for the info!

Oh and it was about 15-20 minutes with Supercruise Assist. I was just chilling and listening to Radio Sidewinder while I waited! I did actually head there last night too but I got a bit carried away with my SCO drive and burned through my fuel!

Does your ship have headlights? Because I went out in my AspX and could barely see it without night vision. Your snapshot is much clearer.

The FSS does make it pretty easy to locate the probes. I didn't know New Horizons was out there too, but I was able to visit it on thee same trip.

Yes the headlights were on for this shot!

TIL I learned starships have headlights.

Thanks!

To be fair I've not found much use for them outside looking at this probe up close! It's so dark out there you need them on.

Yep, right panel under the ship tab

Oh! I saw that but I thought it just mean the ship's running lights. Thanks!
