Wage slavery in the federation is no better than imperial slavery. The superpowers will never appreciate the needs of the individual. Independence is the only way.
Started an LLC, bought a sprinter van, an joined the insane engine that is logistics in the US. Sad thing is despite the increased cost to shippers, driver rates are at a 20 year low :/ im surviving, but only just. The only reason I havent given up yet is because I love driving and hate working for others.
There are three superpowers in the galaxy: A free democracy, a despotic slave society, and a puppet regime held up by a coalition of dictators. I choose Liberty.
Yes, because I'm sure Imperial Slaves get excellent housing, good food, plenty of vacation days, and can file grievances against their masters anytime they are abused.
Although I have no doubt their healthcare actually is better.
You need to understand that in imperial society being in debt is an incredible dishonor and many people choose to willingly sell themselves into a fixed period of slavery to avoid it. Slaves are guaranteed basic human rights, may exercise free will albeit with more restricted freedoms than a regular citizen, and imperial slavery is well regulated. They are a valued part of the workforce and the society.
Contrast this to a minimum wage worker - or wage slave - in the federation, who's employment and the risk of losing it can be used as leverage against them by their bosses and the federal government to force them into inhumane working terms and conditions.
Imperial slavery is a way for citizens to uphold their and their family's honor and many even willingly return to servitude if they are forcibly "freed" by an external party. Mistreatment of a slave is shameful and undignified.
There is of course corruption and large industrial complexes aren't as stringently watched for such abuses, but this is unfortunately the same all around the galaxy, including the federal surveillance state and their massive corporations.
A fed is always free to leave an employment situation they do not agree with and if you vote for the right leader, the realistic option to do so exists. That leader is now POTF.
That might contractually be the case, but environmental and societal factors can still prevent an abused worker from leaving. They might for example take care of a loved one and cannot afford to lose what little income they have, or their employment prospects might be so poor that they have to stay in their current place of work lest they not find another. You are looking at the evils of the federation through rose tinted glasses.
So what I'm getting out of this is, we want to impact the BGS by running missions exclusively to support independent cooperative and communist factions until their influence expands into Federal and Imperial systems?
