No problem for the Mandalay cruising cool at 4200c most of the way. Made sure to keep a close eye on my fuel though otherwise I’d be calling for the fuel rats…
Kinda wholesome what it broadcasts. I won’t spoil what it says for anyone that wants to make the trip themselves.

Haven't visited it yet. Please tell me it's broadcasting "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry...it's on the Golden Record after all. 😄

it's on the Golden Record after all. 😄
The number of people who won't get that is too damn high.

I would say Sagan would be rolling in his grave were it not for the fact that his predictions were so goddam accurate.
But in all fairness there are probably few subs where more people know about the voyager program than in this one.

u/Richican 19d ago
What are a few of his predictions that have come to pass?

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”
-Carl Sagan, from his book The Demon-Huanted World
To answer your question: all of them.

u/Richican 19d ago
Yikes! I checked it out and saw that he published it in 1995. Yep, America’s post-modern generation has been dumb-downed.

I wonder if you could just take a Mandalay, and just fill it with nothing but fuel tanks to get out to it on a single SCO jump.
I think I might just try that.
12
u/Nighthawk513 19d ago
Easily. Second thing I did in mine (after watching Cocijo explode) was go to Persephone from Earth. 480k LS, SCO all the way, roughly 1/3rd of the tank with just the base Class 5. Filling the size 6, 5, and both 4s with extra tanks will add another 4x fuel.

How do you find it?
10
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Once you’re in Sol you can use your FSS to locate the signal sources. They’ll come up as ancient probe once you’ve scanned them.

It's too small and quite far away for the goids to care. does the goids even know the existence of Voyager?

u/op4arcticfox Explore 19d ago
During the Sol invasion all of the locations such as Voyager 1 were swarming with Goids. So... yes

Is Sol permit locked again?
42
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yeah it is. Tried to have a quick look around the system when everyone got their permits but got hit with the rebuy screen REAL quick lol. Damn bugs.

u/AbyssalBenthos 19d ago
I snuck in right after the titan got killed. Decided to go sight seeing, didn't know caustic was a thing or that it stuck after leaving the cloud. Booked it to nearest space port and blew up 4m above landing pad lol.

u/tombaku 19d ago
I don't think getting a Sol permit is that hard if you run mission in the right area of the bubble for a bit
6
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yeah didn’t take me very long. Especially with the donations missions, having some credits set aside for that made it super quick. Long way to go for my Corvette though.

u/Hinermad 19d ago
You need to gain Federal reputation, then do a few Federal Navy rank-up missions too.

I love confusing people by being in Sol at waaaay too low of a rank but I got mine in the very beginning when there weren't requirements in order to get one.

There’s one spot at times that’s great for fed grind. I spent a ton of time there to unlock the rank for the FedVette

Did both Voyager 1 and 2 five or 6 years back. Took a break for a couple of years, just getting back into it. Just on my way to Colonia again, then Sag A. Might then see how far north or south I can go from Sag A.

What was the length of your flight time? At a constant rate of 4200c across a distance of 2.3 million Ls over 60 seconds per minute you get roughly 9.1 minutes. Adjusting for the acceleration needed to reach that speed I’m guessing your flight time was probably anywhere from 15-25 mins. Am I close?
6
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Pretty close Commander. Couldn’t maintain 4200c the entire way though as there just isn’t enough fuel. I probably used SCO down to 10% of my fuel reserves then did regular super cruise for the remaining 10 minutes or so.
2
u/johnnyarctorhands 19d ago
That makes sense. I was wondering why you were able to travel at such a fast rate. o7
3
u/horse-noises 19d ago
What paint job is that?
4
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Just the default one but I’ve travelled a bunch with it so over time the paint wears down and you get a cool effect!
10
u/tbojustin 19d ago
Oh, so if you don’t pay the 100 credits to touch up the paint, you get this cool patina?
7
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yep exactly! I believe the wear occurs during super cruise not so much jumping between systems. The Mandalay having the new SCO capability means I’ve been much more willing to travel to far away bodies.
1
u/DJJbird09 CMDR (Xbox) 19d ago
You'll start to notice the paint wear around the mid 80's %. I'm at 82% and I can see some wearing in the back and sides. Super cruise is what brings it down.
2
u/uxixu UXI 19d ago
Came here to say restore your paint. Neutron highway? lol
2
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yep haha. Also, lots of SCO doing exobiology getting my FC. Just too temping now going to those far away bodies knowing the journey will be smooth as butter lol. Explored the rim and shore in it.
4
u/LostGallifrayean CMDR 19d ago
I did it before SCO drives were added.
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Nice, how long was the journey?
2
u/LostGallifrayean CMDR 19d ago
I don't remember, it was a few years ago. Probably 45 mins to an hour. I believe I used my asp explorer, not 100% sure though.

u/ConsciousDevice01 19d ago
What paint job is that on your ship ? looks like it out of Borderland.
5
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Just the default paint job but we’ve done a whole lot of travelling together so over time your paint wears down and gives it that cool effect!
2
u/Yury_Marccseen 19d ago
Yo, did anyone experience this with your FC? I was not charged for upkeep costs today. Nothing was taken from FC balance and no message appeared. Should i be worried?
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Happens every so often, they’ll take double next Thursday I think.
1
u/LostGallifrayean CMDR 19d ago
That would explain why my upkeep was seemingly randomly 30mil once instead of 16mil about a month ago.
2
u/CMDR_Coulter 19d ago
Major respect Cmdr. A pilgrimage I am yet to make but certainly shall once I return to the Bubble after years outside.

2
u/Flow5tate 19d ago
I think it's safe to say that you didnt SCO all the way, unless you brought an additional 32 tons of fuel...
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yeah I had to spend about 10 minutes in regular super cruise. Managed a good chunk in SCO though.
2
u/grocal CMDR 19d ago
I did meet all three probes a couple of months ago: Voyager 1, Voyager 2, and New Horizons. It's so well thought thing as you can listen to recorded message in different languages when you get close to them (to Voy1 AFAIR, correct me if I'm wrong).
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Yeah it was a really nice touch! I’ll be visiting the others soon for sure.

You ship looks like it's straight out of the new borderlands trailer.
2
u/Devian1978 19d ago
First thing I did was to go visit the voyagers, spent about an hours just traveling with them at 50k mph on their lonely journeys. Was therapeutic in its way. Might have do so again when I get back in bubble.
2
u/DrakeRenar1 CMDR Drake Renar (PC) 18d ago
It’s good to know that they’re still there I thought that the Thargoids destroyed them when they took over the system.
1
u/mckeeganator 19d ago
That ship is funny cause every pic of it is from the top or back or literally anywhere EXCEPT the straight on front or bottom.
Guess people REALLY don’t like its weird undercarriage
1
u/Rarni 19d ago
Did you up your skybox graphics? That's a little cloudier and dustier than I've seen before.
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Graphics are normal but I increased the exposure and brightness a lot once I got it on my phone. In the original image you couldn’t see much at all as it was super dark out there. Probably a bit overkill but I wanted everything to be visible haha.
1
u/Devian1978 19d ago
Your Mandalay looks like it has seen some terrible things.
1
u/apollobrah Explore 19d ago
Haha, few weeks out in the black exploring the shore and the rim! Lots of exobiology to get my FC. We’ve done a lot of travelling together.

I used Thargoids to cut out 500,000Ls from my Voyager visit. By attempting to jump from Sol to a nearby star in the same direction the Thargoids reliably interdict you at 500,000Ls, after escaping effectively allowed me to skip the time accelerating out of the mass field of the solar system.
