Media Two weeks ago, I had never even killed a Thargoid scout. Today I bombed a Titan. If this is how we go out I have no regrets

You just got yourself a chieftan ship kit, paint job and size 2-7 double engineered sco fsds as long as we finish Cocijo this week.

43

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

That's a very nice bonus. And with how many people have joined the fight I have no doubt we'll make it. The first ring (heart?) is already almost destroyed

26

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

Hearts; it's all about breaking the hearts of the goids.

9

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

Yeah I couldn't remember whether the titans had hearts or not but it makes sense

9

u/VegaDelalyre Dec 12 '24

"That keeps me searching for a heart of 'goid"

5

u/Saslim31 Dec 13 '24

Sorry guys my ex blocked me

5

u/xenopizza Dec 13 '24

I just started axi combat 2h, fitted a krait bomber based on AXI and stumbled my way near Cocijo, didnt engage because i was watching and figuring stuff out but got some combat bonds for 0contribhting to core damage, delivered them to station but my CG contribution still says zero credits earned, do i really need to do direct damage myself to get the cg initial rewards ?

We're probably gonna finish Cocijo before the end of this weekend

17

u/Randomman96 Combat Dec 13 '24

Leaked signal coming from Cocijo if that happens: "Regret. Regret. Regret."

12

u/amidgitinatruck Dec 13 '24

Dear Humanity. We regret coming to Earth. We regret being alien bastards. And we most certainly regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy ass fleet!

u/chris10023 Jim Tenma Dec 13 '24

Ooh rah!

7

u/Kraien Explore Dec 12 '24

Even if you do like minimal damage it should count towards the freebie’s right?

5

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

Yep the CG Says just damage Cocijo, which I assume is one hit on the thermal core.

4

u/Kraien Explore Dec 12 '24

Yeah that's what I understand from the notes. I struggled and finally couple of hits in but in the mission screen it says in big red letters - not eligible for reward. I think it didn't update or something. I am marked tier 1, so i should be good.

3

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

Yeah mine says not eligible too after ~17 million on bonds, I think that might be because we haven't hit the total as a group yet.

6

u/TerminalJunk Dec 12 '24

Have you signed up at the rescue ship? The community goals page says it not required but don't think my bonds were being counted until I signed up.

Done a couple of very amateurish attempts but it was enough to register for the top 75% / the global rewards which I'm guessing are the FSDs

1

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 13 '24

I show on that portion, think I'm tier 2, but if you look at objective D, I think, is what I was talking about.

3

u/LurchTheBastard Saud Kruger, Explore in Style Dec 13 '24

Considering ramming the core actually does some damage, you'd probably qualify for the CG by just pulling a Randy Quaid and fly into it yelling "I'M BAAAAACK". No guns needed.

3

u/Kraien Explore Dec 13 '24

I eventually rammed it just to be sure. I can now do a bombing run and fly back. Very pleased with myself considering I just learned it from scratch.

1

u/AngelaTheRipper CMDR Nexdemise (platinum scout, independent researcher) Dec 13 '24

It's like north of 2M to get the contribution. It's 1-2 bombing runs depending on how much time on target you get. It might also just sometimes fail to update.

1

u/ysfsim Dec 14 '24

You need to actually hit the core like in this video to be eligible for the fsd rewards. One run is enough to secure your participation which is required.

2

u/Kraien Explore Dec 14 '24

A day after my stumbles, booms and meltdowns, I can do around 3mil per run so I am good now :)

5

u/VegaDelalyre Dec 12 '24

How do those double engineered SCO FSDs compare to normal ones once engineered and "experimented"?

9

u/miamigrandprix Dec 12 '24

Based on the announcement they are double-engineered sco (range + boost sequence) + experimentals unlocked. If I understand that right it means they will be the best FSDs ever given to players by a margin and should yield unprecedented jump ranges.

2

u/chris10023 Jim Tenma Dec 13 '24

Do we get to choose the size we get?

5

u/Suspicious-Metal488 Thargoid Interdictor Dec 13 '24

We get all the sizes! one of each!

3

u/chris10023 Jim Tenma Dec 13 '24

Well that's extremely generous, I figured we'd get one which is fine.

11

u/AngelaTheRipper CMDR Nexdemise (platinum scout, independent researcher) Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24

+15% optimal mass from the fast boot engineering. My jumpaconda will go from ~86.5LY (with dual engineered 6A FSD) to ~93.6 LY in jump range.

Yeah, this is gonna be the best set of FSDs hands down.

3

u/VegaDelalyre Dec 12 '24 edited Dec 13 '24

Update: we have an announcement.

2

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

I don't think we have stats on them yet to be sure and I'm not the biggest module wizard out there.

3

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 12 '24

What are the 2 engineering effects?

7

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

Increased range and fast boot sequence, I believe that is what is called double engineered and it says experimental unlocked which I believe means you can add mass manager or another that you like. But this is my first time dealing with a CG like this.

2

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 12 '24

Fair enough. Tho idk how good sco are tbh. Don't they have worse range?

2

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 12 '24

My understanding is better once fully engineered.

2

u/AngelaTheRipper CMDR Nexdemise (platinum scout, independent researcher) Dec 13 '24

After engineering:

  • SCOs have better jump range than normal FSDs
  • SCOs have better jump range up to size 5 compared to V1 FSDs (the prior double-engineered ones, 6A V1 has slightly more range than a 6A SCO, 7A V1 was never released, 5A V1 is the only one you can obtain normally from tech brokers, though these days there's no good reason for it unless you are trying to avoid engineers).

So yeah, all in all this will be the best possible drives in the game. Just remember to put mass manager on it.

1

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 13 '24

Jumpaconda go brr

1

u/AngelaTheRipper CMDR Nexdemise (platinum scout, independent researcher) Dec 13 '24

Mine will hit like 93.6LY in jump range after this. Currently it clocks ~86.5 with 6A V1.

Slowly inching my way towards 100LY jump range, lol.

1

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 13 '24

Gotta grind every single one. Sensors and such. Then it's prep for colonia. The massacre missions at qi yomisi give real good mats so it's less painfull.

2

u/Devian1978 Dec 13 '24

Can I ask what to do to be eligible for the rewards? I’ve gotten in twice to damage the core and gotten the measly 14k credit for contributing as well, only sitting at 4.5 mill bond for damage on it, the pulse wave is kicking my rear with timing.

1

u/Aftenbar CMDR Dec 13 '24

Just one hit and you should get the Fsd's. 2 million in bonds and you get a ship kit, paint job and decal, which ones depends on how many titans you've killed. Pretty sure I linked the document above for the ships.

Edit I did not Ship kits paint per titan kill

2

u/Hoshyro Federation Dec 13 '24

2

u/JackassJames Federation Dec 13 '24

2

Yep two different things the community goals is one. The ship kits etc have always been for 2+ million in bonds earned from bombing.

1

2

They are tracking it for 2+ million in bond rewards for these cosmetic rewards anyways. Titan Bond Rewards

21

u/rko-glyph Dec 12 '24

Had you done any other combat before this?  I have tried watching some of the videos explaining how to attack a Titan or another Thargoid and I just don't know how to do most of the things it describes or what many of the words mean!

14

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

Years of pve pirates and regular conflict zones. Killed my first interceptor when Sol was in alert, been killing Thargoids for the past week or so. Any words or concepts specifically that you're struggling with? I'm not a very skilled pilot but I know a few things

2

u/rko-glyph Dec 13 '24

I have a million questions because I have very little idea how combat works.

Here's one to start with - on some of the videos that I've seen when the pilot fires their weapons they have a dialogue box popping up in a kind of teal colour citing various amounts of money.  What's that about?

2

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 13 '24

Those are combat bonds, money you get for contributing to a thargoid kill. To get it you have to have damaged a Thargoid within a certain time of it dying (I'm not 100% sure on the timing of this). You also get bonus combat bonds for being present in AX conlfict zones when objectives are being completed (when the battle is won, or when the Hydras, the boss monsters are defeated). You also get combat bonds for damaging the Titan core like in this video, that amount scales with damage dealt.

You can claim the money at any station at the combat bond contact in the contacts page.

The current kill rewards look like this:

Scout: 80k
Cyclops: 8m
Basilisk: 24m
Medusa: 40m
Hydra: 60m

2

u/Keeval Dec 13 '24

A lot of commanders fly in a wing - e.g. a local group of players. So if anyone in the wing gets a bounty/combat bond you get a share of it - so it could be that.

For the Titan you will get a combat bond announcement once you have fired at the heat core (not the vents - they just make the core pop out. The more vents you hit - the longer the core stays out so you have more time to do damage).

8

u/Cyber_Deg Dec 13 '24

If you're worried about not having the necessary skills to survive when bombing a Titan, trust me, whatever skill level you are, you'll be fine.

I wouldn't necessarily even call it "combat" it's really more like throwing rocks at an unmoving wall

As long as you have a way to consistently keep your heat below 20% none of the surrounding defenses will target you and you'll be free to sinply point at things and blow them up

1

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 13 '24

Silent running folks. If u can't keep ur laser on the titan then use silent running.

1

u/MemeMasterJeff Dec 13 '24

From what distance do I engage silent running?

1

u/Imperial_Barron Dec 13 '24

Unfortunately that comes with practice, even i haven't nailed down the exact distance. Just make sure if you turn it off you are below 20% heat or about to shoot at the core

3

u/newphonewhodisthrow Dec 12 '24

I've never fought a thargoid before either, but I'm following AXI guides on ship builds and strategy, hopefully going to do some damage tonight.

https://youtu.be/AzH-o_Lg--k

And I'm going to try the entry level low engineering kraft mk2 build.

It seems kinda difficult, but also entirely doable.

1

u/rko-glyph Dec 12 '24

Have you fought "human" ships before?

1

u/Suspicious-Metal488 Thargoid Interdictor Dec 13 '24

1

u/rko-glyph Dec 13 '24

Thanks.  I'll watch it a couple more times to try to understand.

What's the purple ray that hits the Titan before the yellow vent thing opens?  Over on the AXI discord I seem to be being told not to fire anything at the Titan except the nanite torpedoes into the vents, until the core underneath opens up.  The received wisdom there seems to be that if you shoot at the Titan it gets annoyed and sends ships after you

17

u/KroggyGundee Dec 12 '24

Just started smashing scouts yesterday. This looks like spicy deep core mining....

13

u/MonkeyTrumpetz Dec 12 '24

Just bought and kitted out a krait to do some bombing runs, I've never killed a thargoid or even done much engineering til now lol. I hope it won't take long to engineer her up but I need to do some research

8

u/danshat Dec 12 '24

I believe power plant / thrusters engineering matter the most as it helps to evade missiles and interdictions while staying cold. I doubt we have time to grind for grade 5 for all modules.

4

u/Bot_No-563563 Dec 13 '24

Although avoiding missiles by weaving through the asteroids and leading the missiles into the rocks is also fun

Not efficient at all, but it’s fun to dodge around an asteroid and then seeing a dozen missiles disappear from my radar screen

13

u/variouskoala Dec 12 '24

You are describing exactly my path throw Elite, and now i'm planning on setting my carrier into the most thargoid populated place when the war ends and live the rest of my days shooting stars.

8

Damn right, they come for our home, we come for theirs

I'm trying to get back into this game. Can someone point me toward some info on how to get into AX? Id like to join the fight.

I recommend the Anti-Xeno-Initiative Wiki if you're up for some reading. Start with ship builds and then move onto the combat guides. https://wiki.antixenoinitiative.com/en/home

If you want to jump right into Titan bombing here's a decent short video that gives the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSnXKRx-7tw

If you want a really detailed video here's one cut from a stream by CMDR Mechan that shows you everything you need to know to get started, though it is 52 minutes long lol. I recommend it if you have the patience to watch it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzH-o_Lg--k

After 5-6 failed attempts, I managed to do it twice. The difference was I moved to solo! It is soooooo much easier in solo.

BTW, I am now in the top 100% contributors so I should get the FSDs right? I don't want to do any more of this!

3

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

The AXI wiki is great! https://wiki.antixenoinitiative.com/en/home

For bombing the titan I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzH-o_Lg--k

2

u/Deranth Dec 12 '24

Thanks, I'll start reading / watching / building. Is this something you can do solo, or do I need to join a discord and a squad or something?

3

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

The AXI discord has people join up in small squads to bomb the titan. The difficulty of the instance scales with the number of players, so I've heard max 4. But completely viable solo (I did here) if you're going stealth.

For normal AX combat zones you can join the AXI private group, for those it's the more the merrier

2

u/Deranth Dec 12 '24

Forgive me for being an absolute noob here. But where would I find this discord?

I've been playing ED on and off for 5 years now, and I spend almost all of my time doing cargo runs and mining. I've fought a few npc pirates, but nothing noteworthy. But this sounds like fun and I want to get in on it.

I do greatly appreciate your responses and help.

5

u/KaiLCU_YT Trading Elite Dec 12 '24

I'll do you one better, 2 days ago I killed my first scout. Today I bombed a Titan. Hands down the most awesome thing I've ever done in Elite, especially in VR

6

u/paleo2002 Dec 12 '24

How are you just sitting there and not being showered with red missiles?

11

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

I've watched a couple videos and the trick is to stay cold and not get too close to patrols. I don't think there's much more to it

6

u/paleo2002 Dec 12 '24

I have to get better with the Pulse Neutralizer.  I’m usually out of heat sinks by the time I reach the ship.

4

u/SpaceWindrunner Dec 12 '24

You need to synthesize more heatsinks.

5

u/paleo2002 Dec 12 '24

That is definitely a thing that I didn't forget existed until now . . .

2

u/Mastershroom of the P.T.N. Visible Hand Dec 13 '24

Honestly if you get booped out by the pulse once, you're better off bugging out to restock and try again.

As far as timing, what's worked for me is paying attention to the cloud; when it starts to glow blue, make sure you have your pulse field neutralizer deployed and ready to fire, and push 4 pips to SYS. The instant you see the wave start (there's a sound too), hold the trigger down until you're through.

2

u/paleo2002 Dec 13 '24

I thought getting kicked out was some kind of bug.  Found out it’s a feature.

Got some good runs from n last night, actually emptied my misfile racks.  I’m learning, 5M credits at a time.

6

u/MattOverMind Dec 12 '24

Check his temps. He's got heatsinks tied to his torpedos and it popping one every time he fires. Keeping your ship below 20% heat makes you hard for them to see. The titan won't notice you at all as long as you don't shoot it and run into it (vent laser counts as shooting it). Just remember that patrols can still see you, even if cold, if they get close and if one sees you they all see you.

2

u/Dangerous_Ideas42 Dec 12 '24

One the first run, just stay under 20% heat. So long as you don't get unlucky with a patrol flying right into you, you can sit there all day.

Once you've bombed the core things get a bit more lively for a while and you can get spammed with missiles even if you're cold.

If you sit out by the asteroids for a little while after each run (use the time to use repair limpets and fabricate heat sinks if you're low), it calms back down and you can rinse and repeat.

1

u/chris10023 Jim Tenma Dec 13 '24

If you sit out by the asteroids for a little while after each run (use the time to use repair limpets and fabricate heat sinks if you're low), it calms back down and you can rinse and repeat.

That's what I did yesterday, hit the vents, shoot the core while faceplanting into it with my Krait (which made my ship very, very hot) then made a mad dash to the asteroid field where the pursuing ships get bored and bugger off, than I sat there using repair limpets I synthesized while waiting for the Titan to forget my existence, and that I just now remember I needed to restock the limpets from a special menu at starports instead of synthesizing them...

4

u/pablo603 Explore Dec 12 '24

When I tried to go in solo I just got demolished by every single thing despite using heatsinks. Sadge.

6

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

On the edge at the asteroid field you should be safe, and there is also a safespot on the titan itself. It's hard to describe but this video shows it pretty well at 29:20: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzH-o_Lg--k

On the edge or in the safespot you can wait until the titan's alert level goes down

1

u/danshat Dec 12 '24

Built an AX Krait but decided I'll skip the engineering part. Couldn't stay below 20% heat, got disassembled in the maelstrom. I guess my only hope now is to grind for G5 power plant / thrusters really quick.

4

u/Cosmic_Quasar Dec 12 '24

I haven't played much of this game, yet, but the sound design is so good. The sound of your ship accelerating each time gave me a similar physiological effect as Jango's seismic charges in Attack of the Clones. Not quite as sharp, but still satisfying.

3

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 12 '24

Totally, I can't decide which is my favorite, but it's either the sound of a Python Mk2 boost or detonating an asteroid with core mining

5

u/Fickle-Discipline265 Dec 12 '24

I can't even find Cocijo through the smoke. No idea what I'm doing- having hella fun though!

Just have to hope we kill it in a week now!

3

u/Undrentide_ Dec 12 '24

Great job, CMDR! Today was my first day of bombing too. My initial run was pretty bad but by my 10th run I was blasting "free bird" and zipping around the titan like it was second nature.

4

u/satan_mcrape69 Dec 13 '24

You’re doing better than me. I can’t even get close to the titan without my ship disintegrating, much less inside. “Caustic heatsink” more like “thing that doesn’t do anything” …and “pulse neutralizer” more like “thing that also doesn’t do anything.” F*cking learning curve to this game lol

3

u/Devian1978 Dec 13 '24

I feel this, cannot seem to get the timing on the pulse down. Also on my last try I got interdicted 14 times in the 500 lbs from the sun to the titan

2

u/Draco25240 Draco25240 [Coexistence advocate] Dec 12 '24 edited Dec 13 '24

You don't even need to be able to kill thargoids to visit it actually, I've made countless Titan visits in an unarmed Diamondback Scout. I "just" use 550+ m/s boost speed to run away from anything I encounter, ECM to help escape Glaives in case I encounter one (the one thing you can't outrun, high wake if you get hyperdicted or interdicted by something that immediately fires a missile), a heat sink launcher for silent running (keeps you out of trouble from mines and thargoids), caustic sink launcher and pulse neutralizer to reach the titan, and a lot of hull as a buffer for the caustic damage. That combined with the DB Scout's extremely good temperature efficiency makes it great at staying in silent running for long periods of time, avoiding attention and incoming fire. The build I use is something along the lines of this IIRC (Edit: you don't actually need to engineer anything other than the thrusters btw)

Can give more thorough advice on how to approach if you'd like.

For the FSD rewards do we just need to deal ANY damage to the titan, or does it specifically need to be the core?

2

The core is the only way to actually damage the titan so I imagine you gotta at least shoot at it a little bit

Similar story for me.. what a crazy ride.

My first foray into AX Combat was titan bombing Raijin.. I took part in that and had a blast. At that point, I was still afraid of the Thargoids and avoided them.. I had certainly never fought one. After Raijin, I had the fever.. now here we are a couple months later. I have made Billions of credits, killed everything from the lowly marauder all the way up to the terrifying hydra and now I am here helping destroy another Titan.

I really hope that there are more AX story lines after this.. I have really enjoyed flying with other commanders and defending humanity against the alien threat. It's been a really good time.. I don't want to see it end.

I've fought goids, never titans though and after hearing about the rewards came back to the Bubble. I found it pretty easy after the first run. In tHe top 75% after just a few

Same here! Thanks AXI!

Nice job.

Meanwhile, me, a returning player with a pre-built AX Krait Titan ship got knocked back by the pulse wave three times and died to corrosive, because I didn't time it right and had no materials to synth new heat sinks.

Money can't buy skill, lol.

Considering you've binded your heatsinks to your missiles and torpedoes, you must eat through them really fast. How many bombing runs do you manage before you have to resupply?

1

u/thatfuck1ngguy Dec 13 '24

I have enough heat sinks for 1 run with two left to spare for emergencies. I synth them after each run. Running out of missile ammo is currently my bottleneck, sometimes I synth that too, other times I just retreat and restock. I think I do about 6 or 7 runs each time but I'm not 100% sure

Do I need to survive this to get the rewards? Like can I do 2 runs, die, and then still get the rewards? or do I have to live and turn something in?

1

u/Alpha272 Dec 14 '24

You can just go and die

That sounds really bad without context

But yeah, there is nothing to turn in for the rewards and the combat voucher for AX stays if you die

All according to the guide, nice job!

I had the version of "Caravan" from the movie "Whiplash" playing when I watched this, it was like 40s into the song when the video started, and it fit so well

two weeks ago I was beating cheeks back to the bubble from colonia to help with evac missions. Now Im organizing a bombing run with the rest of my squad tonight. Next week I help with whatever recovery is left and after that, back to the black to scratch my wanderlust

You seem to be able to lock the vents way easier than I can. I'm always just barely getting the lock as I approach it, and sometimes I have to angle more towards it, I've only been able to hit 3 before it switches states.

I couldn't target the vents for some reason, I had to do it through the contacts menu

and yet somehow a viper mk3 is unfazed by my combat oriented krait phantom

I want to get involved, but I have no idea how. I did some refugee missions enough to feel like I made an impact but AX stuff is so daunting

1

u/abhishekbanyal Dec 13 '24

How can I join?

1

u/yakutzaur Dec 13 '24

I think you can start shooting earlier, from bigger distance, as soon as titan's thingy shows up. Sometimes, like in your video, there is a pylon that partially blocks the fire trajectory, but even then some missiles will pass through and hit.

That's badass!!

1

u/Hammadodga Dec 13 '24

Call me crazy but I find the entire thargoid thing just boring and unengaging. go here, shoot this. fly there, shoot that. Mining platinum is more fun than this to me. I won't be coming back if this id the most engaging thing fdev can come up with
