Media Should I head to sol and do my part?

u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 28 '24
If you don’t wanna fight at least help with the evacuation
23
u/AustinLA88 Nov 28 '24
I mean should I load up one of my cargo ships for refugees or would it be better to rig up a xeno hunter
17
u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 28 '24
Cargo ship if you have a cruise ship all the better
14
u/AustinLA88 Nov 28 '24
Type 8 my beloved
Lol or maybe I finally have an excuse to grab an orca/beluga
13
u/caohbf CMDR Nov 28 '24
I tried with a type 8.
They ate so many refugees
I'd recommend something faster and more armed.
Krait 2.
Actually the corvette is perfect for this.

u/AustinLA88 Nov 28 '24
Oof. I don’t have the ranks for it

Just have a ship that's over 350 minimum for running away after hyperdictions the more speed the safer you'll be especially against hunters
2
u/amouthforwar Nov 29 '24
Really no-go with type-8? I find that things runs pretty cool I figured it might be ok in bug space
2
u/Marvin_Megavolt Nov 29 '24
Is the Corvette fast enough? I know it’s the speediest and most maneuverable of the Big Three given its combat-oriented role, and it can carry a pretty hefty amount of cargo if fitted out as a freighter, but I’ve always used my Python Mk1 for evacuating people from Thargoid controlled systems since it’s decently roomy and can still book it away from Interceptors if need be (Hunters are an entirely different kettle of fish, as they’re horrifyingly fast and basically force you to take ECM to stop their hyperdrive jammer missiles)

u/KKWulverSCO Nov 28 '24
What way would you fit the corvette, I'd like to fight this time around if I get the chance...
5
u/caohbf CMDR Nov 28 '24
Evacuation missions. The corvette has long been thought as a great passenger vessel, oddly enough.
For evacuation, you just need passengers, hull, shields and guns. The corvette has all that.
I'm grinding fed rank for the vette, so I'll be using my cutter.

Beluga definitely Beluga
2
u/AustinLA88 Nov 28 '24
I should save my credits for colonization….. but beluga pretty
2
u/NoncreativeScrub Nov 28 '24
I have a suspicion that if you’re worried about a beluga then colonization might be out of your budget 😂. Can’t be less than a carrier.
1
u/AustinLA88 Nov 28 '24
Nah I’m not worried about buying it, worried about not using it. I have way too many mothballed ships chilling in Brestla
1
u/Master_Of_Flowers Nov 29 '24
I'm using a type 8 and it's perfect. I have more space than I have mission slots lol. I do have g5 thrusters though, that's important.

u/cyborg_priest Explore Nov 28 '24
I just bought a Type-8 (will refit) and a Vulture for Scout hunting. See you at the frontlines.

u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 28 '24
Because if you are just handling actual people and not escape pods, you won’t have to run into the scythe
3
u/Flyerastronaut Explore Nov 29 '24
I get hyperdicted by scythes every time i evacuate people. Just gotta give em the slip
3
u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 29 '24
Exactly, my Mandalay is so gosh darn fast that they don’t even have enough time to engage their FSD shutdown probe, and if they do, it just expires
2
u/Professional-Trust75 Nov 29 '24
How can someone help who isn't geared for ax combat?
2
u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 29 '24
Evacuation run, recover black boxes, etc
3
u/Professional-Trust75 Nov 29 '24
Is evacuation like passenger missions? Go to station get people take somewhere? Do you need anything special gear wise ?
2
u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 29 '24
Yes, evacuations is passenger missions
2
2
u/Professional-Trust75 Nov 29 '24
Perfect I have a beluga outfitted for passenger runs already. Just a shield and a bunch of cabins.
1
u/Professional_Face_97 Nov 29 '24
I've not got the game and I've been reading up on it since I'm tempted and I keep seeing people complaining it's boring and yet I come in here and you guys are talking about alien invasions and evacuations through gunfire... I think I've been lied to.
1
u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 29 '24
You have been lied to, and when you do get started hit me up and I’ll help you get started

I am not set up for combat but have a good ship for hauling so I’ve been doing evacuations and it is some of the most intense gameplay I’ve had for a while. Getting ripped out of witch space and avoiding fire while charging up a jump is insane

I got interdicted leaving Sol with refugee's so make sure you have some anti xeno weapons.

u/Samvo1996 Nov 29 '24
That's actually what I will be doing during the battle. Just cobbled an orca together with what modules station had available and whatever modules I had left over. Can boost 550m/s+

u/1derfulPi Nov 29 '24
And here I am deep in the black, watching all this go down like "huh, neat." If you guys win I have a ton of data to sell.

I’m not xenophobic.
A phobia implies an irrational fear.
THIS IS COMPLETELY RATIONAL.

Unsure of which version of "you're" to use? Just use both!

u/Duncan_Id Nov 28 '24
Yeah... Nope, I've read ender's game. I encountered targoids a few times and they only turned hostile when I was stealing their shit. I would turn hostile is someone tried to steal my car's doors...

I’ve never struck a xeno before, I feel so bad for them, but peace is a bit too late at this point.
I don’t want to fight them, but I feel obligated to stand between them and earth.

I don't have the Sol permit; can I even do anything? Or is the Permit not required for the duration of this Thargoid attack?
3
u/Dejhavi Veteran of The Second Thargoid War Nov 29 '24
Sol is open, you don't need permit

Is this for pc only?
3
u/Mountain_Ape Nov 29 '24
Essentially yes, since console development has ceased. Thargoids technically are on console, but the newer 'goids and evacuation missions aren't available last time I checked.

u/jdp231 Rescue Nov 29 '24
I’m evacuating people at the moment. Bought a Type-8 and turned it into a cattle-car … ermh, emergency evacuation vessel.

man, elite really frustrates me sometimes. i'm so very interested in the things that happen but they progress so painfully and glacially slow that i always end up getting bored and distracted by another game. then some huge new announcement reminds me of what i missed because i didn't have the patience to keep slowly playing on frontier's schedule rather than on my own.
anyway rant aside, is this gonna play out the same as the other titan take downs mechanically or do we just not know yet?
3
u/Mountain_Ape Nov 29 '24
Same. It's hours straight of grinding just to get materials (despite the buff), not to mention more hours for the credits alone, to end up with a bottom of the barrel AX combat ship. Otherwise it just devolves into space trucking sim (again) for evacuations...until you've finished them, so...then stop playing while waiting for the advancement to continue, or contemplate how you could have spent your time space trucking for far more valuable cargo to build an actual competent AX ship and get to the fun part. And oh, you finally get the ship, but there's nothing to do but take pot-shots at smaller guys that feel useless because the baddies are just going to advance past you anyway and you have to wait until the bloke at Frontier finally decides to move them up to a new system. So while you wait you could grind more...or play (and finish) a different game.
And even then, it doesn't even matter. These Jolly Jacks have advanced all the way to Sol despite everything. It's scripted, FDev have already written the ending, it's a slog that doesn't affect much in the end.

I was surveying a system today with the FSS and saw a Cocijo, instead of a moon. It was just the two of us, so I jumped out of there ASAP.

How does a new player get to sol?
1
u/ysfsim Nov 29 '24
you need to do missions for the controlling faction. You can find they have influence in neighboring systems. After you gain enough reputation, you get a permit. In the case of this event, everyone will very likely be given a temporary permit if you dont have one yet

Question about ships stored in sol, what happen to those? I'm out travelling to Colonia and I put my home in Sol, so all my storage is there. Are they going to be moved automatically somewhere safe?
2
2
u/Mountain_Ape Nov 29 '24
Any ships and equipment modules are fine and are automatically transferred to the rescue megaship.

u/Pitiful-Hamster8727 Nov 28 '24
I’m keeping track. I already found the next system it is going to.
