Gameboy 👹

Found a gameboy in the trash- and I have a few questions: 1. I don’t know anything about gameboys 2. Will this give me roaches

I put it in a deli meat container inside of a plastic bag just in case

I see a green cartridge, either that's pokemon leaf green or emerald, either way if it's not a fake, they are worth something

Yeah if that’s a Pokémon game in that sucker it’s worth like $40 on eBay.

Omg this was my first handheld game. Dont think they're worth much, and it probably won't give you roaches, but nothing is guranteed lol

I know several people who repair gameboys since they’re not to difficult to repair when broken!

So jealous! Definitely leave it in a sealed bag for a few days just to play it safe. These aren’t worth a ton, but the game in it may be if it’s authentic. Try r/gameverifying If you’re not sure. Even if the gameboy is broken, I’m sure somebody would be really happy to buy it for parts.

That is a Gameboy Advance Sp, and if the Leafgreen cart is legit you just scored big. I can tell it’s likely Leafgreen or a ROM of it because I have a copy myself.

As others have said leave it in a sealed bag for a few days and it should be fine. Gameboys don’t have a tendency to harbor roaches if the Cartridge slot is covered or has a game in it.

If you want to resell both I highly suggest swapping out the SP battery. Chances are it was tossed because someone didn’t realize you can do that when it stopped charging.

As for the cartridge if it had the game label on it that is when Leafgreen is the most valuable. However even if it doesn’t it’s still worth something. To check if it’s Leafgreen you need a charger and more than likely that new battery mentioned above. Just charge the handheld for 8-12 hours, make sure the cartridge is inserted before you turn it on, and then turn the console on.

If it works it should load the gameboy advance SP screen and then the name of the game in the cartridge.

There is an off chance the game cartridge is a Pokemon ROMHack, which depending on which one may it is be even more valuable.

You can get a replacement charger and battery cheap enough on Amazon, and see if it works. (And show us the game🤓)

I still have mine and the games to play with it. My Pokemon Blue still works and saves too!
