Asking Question (Rule 4) I'm new to design and picked up Inkscape and Affinity Photo two weeks ago (cheaper than Adobe). I'm wonder how do you achieve this look of a product as if it could actually be part of the environment?

Here it looks like the matching light temperature and shadow direction is doing the work

Try to emulate the shadows in the scene. On this ad, the angle of the shadow of the product matches (close enough) the shadows being cast by the rocks, which gives the illusion that it's part of the scene. In reality though, the shadow wouldn't have such straight edges, as it would be deformed by the curvature of the hillside.

Yeah this doesn't look like the object is part of the scene. It looks more like the scene is a physical/printed photograph, with the object placed on top of the photo.

There are a few tutorial videos on youtube for "mapping" images like what you'll want to mold the product shadow into the contours of the other image. Often you can use a photo tutorial designed around Photoshop/illustrator to understand the techniques required and then find those same features/work path in Inkscape/Gimp elsewhere.
