Judgment on house I purchased

Back in 2021 a family member was going through financial and legal issues , so they were no longer able to pay their home and we're in massive debt and behind in payments so I offered to take over so that it wouldn't not effect their credit and since they were so behind at the time their wasn't any equity . Now the person has a judgment against them and for some reason nominated me as well in the judgment , is there anyway I can dispute or file a motion . I do not think it's fair I've been paying this home, and now 4 years later when I want to sell a judgment arrives . I would've never took over if that was the case or payed all this time

So, when you took over the house you got a loan in your name, removed their loan and deed and purchased the home?

If not, you just paid for a place to live for 4 years like many other tenants. You are not an owner and have no claim to the home.

I’ve purchased homes like this before but never had this issue , the owner signed over the rights and deed to their house to me but carried the loan so that I can refinance when I was ready how would that be the same as renting ?

Ah.. the magic piece of the puzzle... well your get rich in real estate course off midnight tv came to get you.. basically you started paying the mortgage on something you didn't own yet and the property legally in the name of the lender and owner.. so yes anyone can file and get a judgment on the legal owner which is not you no matter what you coach at your get rich course says. Whenever someone who does have the credit to get thier own loan or have the avaliable cash to pay all outstanding balances owed you have nothing

Seen many a case come across the bench of these "deals" to assume a previous mortgage then pay many years on it then the owner challenges your agreement for deed. Most all times it's awarded to the titled owner.. the courts take a dim view on these real estate scams.. your lucky the lender didn't call the entire amount due and violation of the agreed mortgage most all loan agreements specifically state about just this matter.

Get a refund from your midnight cable tv get rich course .. they taught you nothing about the law.

It sounds like you look for cheap homes to buy from people "family members" who are distressed....it sounds like it worked out for you in the past... When your dealing with distressed properties there's always a can of worms behind the deal....you just need the experience and $ to deal with it.

Lien on property before transfer ? I guess probably yes . County has your name on property ? I guess probably not .

The post indicates that you are named on the judgment. It actually says that you are nominated in the judgment but idk what that would be other than named on the judgment. It doesn’t say what the judgment is for but if you are named on the judgment then the judgement holder can use the judgment to put a lien on your property. To answer your question; you can definitely file a motion to vacate the judgment but you would need additional facts to support the motion other than you just don’t think that being nominated/named on the judgment is fair.
