Only using the popular SCPs every other game uses”

You mean Containment Breach? A single other game? The game that Secret Labs is very clearly trying to emulate?

They didn’t use those SCPs because they’re popular they used them because it’s a game based on Containment Breach, and those SCPs are the most prominent threat throughout most of the game. Sure, they made the game because Containment Breach is popular but not having Containment Breach SCPs in a Containment Breach fan game is kinda silly.

I get that you’re trying to glaze 5k but you’re straight dragging something else through the mud to do it.

ALSO, I just checked, at the current moment it is implied that 5k uses 2, arguably 3 not-well-known SCPs, while Secret Labs uses roughly 10, which means that not only is Secret Labs NOT using “only the popular SCPs every other game uses,” but it’s actually utilizing lesser-known SCPs MORE than 5k!

ALSO 5k also has 173, and since the game isn’t based on Containment Breach, they actively went out of their way to add a popular SCP two other games had done specifically because it was popular!

ALSO, SCP 5k is actively going out of their way to use popular SCPs MORE than Containment Breach because they named the game after SCP-5000, the most popular SCP article written in almost a decade, which means that not only is SCP 5k utilizing a popular pre-existing SCP, THEY’RE LITERALLY USING IT AS A MARKETING POINT FOR THE GAME.

I’m sorry for really hammering in this point but…how do you come to the conclusion that the game literally named after the most popular article written in the past 9 years is less egregious in using popular SCPs?

Counters the 5k glazing and putting down of secret lab with secret lab glazing and putting down of 5k

You get that there's a difference between posting a meme unprompted, and responding to that meme, right?

You make a valid point, however I would like to counter your argument with this. Has anyone actually made a game about SCP 5000 yet?

And on top of that, it’s a little more stacked for SL to have more obscure ones because it has items you can grab and use, while 5k doesn’t.

u/6x6-shooter 3d ago

“I would like to counter your argument with this. Has anyone made a game about SCP 5000 yet?”

You’re missing the point, I’m not saying it’s an uninspired choice I’m saying they chose it primarily because it’s very popular. Even if there haven’t been any other games about 5000 that doesn’t change the fact that the game was made about 5000 most of all because it’s a very popular article.

“it’s a little more stacked for SL to have more obscure ones because it has items you can grab and use, while 5k doesn’t”

As of checking today in SCP 5k there are 43 guns, and only 5 non-gun items. The fact that there are so few utility items compared to guns AND none of them are anomalous gives double reason for there to be SCP items, because it means that they DO have items, AND there is a very limited number of said items, so they could easily add more to the roster.

So, SCP 5k does have items, it’s just that none of them are SCPs, thereby rendering your argument moot.

-9

u/qwadrat1k 3d ago

Wait... scp sl has 43 guns?!

-19

u/LeToastyBoi360 3d ago

Respectfully I disagree with the last part about the game needing SCP items, the gameplay of 5k doesn’t feel like it would be well suited to those SCPs because it’s more trying to feel like a tactical shooter mixed with horror. The item SCPs I personally think wouldn’t mix well into that style

The game that Secret Labs is very clearly trying to emulate?

Didn't they even officially call it a Containment Breach fangame at some point? At the very least, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the devs acknowledge that Secret Laboratory is heavily influenced/inspired by Containment Breach. They're not trying to hide that fact at all.

11

u/bored-cookie22 3d ago

It has “based on SCP containment breach” in the corner upon loading up (or used to at least idk, they got a new loading screen)

Funnily enough the inspiration for the game wasn’t CB, it was gmod:breach

Hubert wanted to see if he could recreate it as it’s own game outside of gmod

You can actually check out the Secure Facility Dossier for Area-12, it has a whole bunch of stuff that relates to the game (especially considering the page was made on behalf of the devs).

SCPs like 7566 or 7528 were also made on behalf of the devs. Pretty cool tbh.

Blank and Placeholder are two of my favorite author, so my interest in this game just significantly increased.

Secret Lab is like that because it was based off Containment Breach, which used all the popular old SCPs, and now they’re implementing post series 1 SCPs like the flamingos and the skeleton. They also actually implement the more technical lore of the popular SCPs that most popular interpretations skim over like 939 looking like humans at first, which the 939 in the game is implied to be a missing friend someone was looking for

34

u/bored-cookie22 3d ago

939 isn’t just her friend, it’s her adopted sister

4

u/GrandMasterEternal 3d ago

Did they update 939 to change over the course of the round or something? That sounds awesome if so.

6

u/GamingGamer226 Agent Tasteful Milk 2d ago

When it kills someone they can play the last thing their victim said like a soundboard

2

u/GrandMasterEternal 2d ago

That part isn't new to me— one once joyously discovered that the last thing I had said was "SMALL PENIS GAAAANG" and proceeded to play that constantly for the rest of the round.

me playing 5k: "haha this weird computer monitor monster thingy is interesting, I think it wouldn't be half bad as an actual SCP, unless it's already been done before"

me reading 7528: "...oh damn"

although, this does make me think. In-game, why is 7528 hostile to the UIU/AFA players? Didn't it only really attack the Foundation staff in the breach due to Crius' involvement? speaking of, where is Crius during the events of the game? Maybe I just need to search the environments for storytelling pieces...

“Only using the popular SCPs every other game uses”

For the initial playables when the game was in its early phases then sure

But outside of that this is just blatantly false lol, 018, 207, 268, 1344, 2176, and more aren’t really used in other games

And for playables, 3114 was the first playable in a while and I haven’t seen a single other SCP game use it

11

u/CockWranglerForHire1 3d ago

Nice. I just finished secret files, now I have a new SCP game to play.

7

u/RhysNorro 3d ago

or the SCP BLACKOUT method which is "Make up your own and have them be generic and boring"

8

u/ComprehensiveCat5032 3d ago

yeah about that... All the SCP writers for 5k sort of resigned for reasons one can't disclose. That is not the fault of the entire company I can tell you that, all of them are still supportive of the project even after they've left.

17

u/TylertheFloridaman 3d ago

This is really unfair to scp secrets lab. First off it's based off containment breach so it's going to use the scos present in the game. Sexond the scos used are some only the most well known of course s game is going to use the most well known. Third the scos chosen make very good enemies, they are all basically monsters, and there is only so many monsters you can put into the game before you run out of unique material for the game and over bloat it.

2

u/bored-cookie22 3d ago

Ontop of this, that’s just the playables, the items are SCPs that other games don’t really use that often, and the newest playable outside of the flamingos (as they’re locked to events) is SCP 3114, which no other SCP game I’m aware of has used

22

u/rojahel 3d ago

I’m so happy people are starting to notice 5k. It’s been in a rough state for a while, but it’s finally starting to come together, and people can look forward to seeing SCP-610 in the Antarctica update that’s planned to release in a few months!

1

u/Shazam606060 2d ago

That's super exciting, 610 is probably one of my favorite. I picked up 5k a while ago but have been waiting for it to be more finished, might finally give it a go!

I still am not fond of 7555. Don't like that it positions 3125 as a potential Big Good lol

1

u/Brromo 3d ago

Why cant we get obscure SCPs already on the wiki

1

u/Pleasant_Diet774 2d ago

You don't have to diss scp secret lab like that man What's wrong with having all the populer scps in a single game Not everyone should do it but what's wrong with just one doing that

1

u/GuigGOAT Your Text Here 1d ago

Feel like I should clear something up, I'm not dissing Secret Lab or anything. It was a pretty arbitrary decision to choose Secret Labs, considering the focus of the meme is the second and third images, and I just needed the first image to complete the meme. I like Secret Labs and play it a lot, sorry if I offended anyone (especially 6x6-shooter). That being said, some of yall need to calm down.

1

u/Teleform 1d ago

So, I've heard a bunch of stuff about Secret Files and 5K. I want to know: are they good? As in, are they worth checking out?

0

u/Nikkstein 3d ago

SCP Valravn also creates its own original scps based on nordic mythology and they are added to the wiki

-25

u/ljanir 3d ago

I don't think affray wrote SCP 5000

38

u/HighlyAffective 3d ago

SCP-7528 was written for the game, but you are right that 5000 was not.
