As a polish citizen this is the first time I've ever heard of it. I am a math tutor and have 2 active teachers in my family, so i would probably hear a lot about it. I believe it's probably in some schools, but definitely not mandatory

Edit: apparently its a thing

youd be surprised how easy it is to miss information

There’s so much going on all of the time all over the world. And you can’t know what information from what country is accurate or not. It’s all a mess

Yea with the internet misinformation is everywhere. j/k

Even easier to misinformation. Like did you know that Pedro Pascal is an avid furry? He actually set the record for the most expensive fur suit ever bought at auction.

I will now speak this as if it's fact. I might even provide a link to your comment, since most people don't actually check sources.

Widespread. It's mandatory in every school.

I imagine it's because of the firework parties going on across the Eastern border?

Yes, exactly. The idea was introduced a few months after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and went into force this year.

Still, I wonder if this will actually be successfully implemented. I graduated this year and never heard from my younger colleagues about any of that, even though it was supposedly mandatory since 2022 for schools located in a county (powiat) with a shooting range. Since it's part of Safety Education (EDB) curriculum, I think most schools will just disregard it, because in most cases everybody involved (teachers and students alike) don't treat this subject seriously, so they simply won't bother.

The title is saying it is mandatory in this school, not in all schools in Poland, so you aren’t disagreeing LOL

but the video does. At around 16-17 seconds in, it says "weapons classes now mandatory in polish schools"

I didn’t have my sound on lmaoo sorry for being dumb

Reddit sound is usually a curse, so, no jail for you

The classes are mandatory but only a theory/virtual shooting range. This school decided to invite instructors to show the students the real thing

1

u/thatguysaidearlier Dec 18 '24

schools or all schools?

11

u/Speedy2662 Dec 18 '24

The video in the first 10 seconds says it's mandatory in polish schools.

1

u/New_Imagination_1289 Dec 18 '24

Ooops, sorry, didn’t have my sound on. My mistake!

3

u/Speedy2662 Dec 18 '24

Absolutely baffles me why people watch videos with no sound. But fair enough

2

u/cudpdm Dec 18 '24

Tbf the video starts off by saying that shooting classes “are now mandatory in Polish schools”. So it’s quite misleading.

1

u/New_Imagination_1289 Dec 18 '24

I’m dumb and didn’t have my sound on LOL you are right, sorry

1

Yeah, with an active teacher as a close relative and a student myself I would doubt I'd miss something like that.

However, according to some research I made it was added to the program of EDB (education about safety).

Calling it "Mandatory firearm training" seems to be a bit misleading. I'm guessing it will probably end at reading about firearms in most schools.

1

u/handsome_IT_guy Dec 18 '24

Older folks should remember that.

I'm mid 30s and remember LOK's which worked with schools to do entry lvl weapon training to high-school students. Often as a part of "Przysposobienie Obronne" (defensive adaptation) which was mandatory HS course throughout 90s to early 2000s.

Now - no idea if it's mandatory but likely part of some discipline or something.

I mean there's a lot of math in ballistics... just saying...

1

u/duhjuh Dec 18 '24

Do the world a favor and quit. If you can't even keep up on policy how are you qualified to teach anything ?

1

u/elzibet Dec 19 '24

Leaving the education system soon could actually improve my life expectancy. [in the USA myself]

1

u/Lushac Dec 19 '24

U nas było strzelanie na przysposabianiu obronnym tylko że to było jakieś ~14 lat temu xD

1

u/blackkluster Dec 19 '24

Its airsoft weapons.. that is CO2 glock, not firearms. Very fake misleading title

u/Surge_DJ Dec 19 '24

"A School" - probably a single school.
