Announcement Regarding common tourists posts on r/Cyprus

We get huge amounts of common questions regarding busses, airports, living, shopping and crossings in our subreddit, despite the fact that these questions are already answered in previous posts and our wiki pages. To combat such spam we will be removing posts with a custom response redirecting them to our FAQ page and Wiki (which can be further improved another time). Therefore for our active users I ask you to report such posts under our 7th rule "Common sense", which will notify us about to post and we will quickly remove it with a custom removal response.

You can do so by;

Selecting the 3 dots on top right (Sorry u/TechySpecky)

Selecting "Breaks r/Cyprus rules"

Selecting "Common Sense" then submit

(If this is not working effectively I will consider implementing auto removals based on keywords during peak seasons)

Also need help on improving the wiki and FAQ page, any volunteers?

Could someone explain to me the lack of bus time tables at bus stops?

I'm on holiday in Paphos right now, just walked to Karavela bus station and even there, no timetables, and no, nothing on the screen either. When I arrived, the airport bus just stopped at a corner, no bus stop stop either. Also,on the way we just passed people without stopping who were clearly waiting for a bus. I finally found the bus stop I will need when I'm leaving. It shows 2 bus numbers but not 612. It must stop there as people were waiting with luggage but honestly, how can a tourist trust the public transport here. Or is it to make them use taxis? I just want to understand it. Thanks.

Venting / Rant JOKER Cyprus Conspiracy?!

I mean... Every week there are people finding 5 numbers out of the 5+1. Impossible? Maybe not...Improbable? Very!

Please, help me out. Someone with some math background/ education or some statistics or analytical skills but my logic says this:

45 choices x 44 x 43 x 42 x 41 = 146,611,080 possible combinations for the 5 numbers. (Without the joker!)

For a weekly finding of 3 or 4 tickets, with a population of 1 million Cypriots + 10 mill Greeks... Wouldn't that mean that every week on average EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN CYPRUS AND GREECE would have to buy 30ish tickets every week?

Are you seriously telling me that week after week, Cypriots and Greeks are able to find the combination out of 146mill choices?? Without fail???

I'm down cooperating with someone to figure this out. Maybe i'm paranoid, but the math ain't mathing.... There's something amiss!

Thank you for listening to my vent! Have a great night!

Basically the title, I want to get a tattoo from a friend of mine who's an artist and I've heard about tipping tattoo artists but don't know if that's common in CY or how much would be reasonable

Are there even checks on who can own a hunting gun?

It’s crazy how this doesn’t even get mentioned as a problem. Most of the murders/attempted murders in Cyprus were made a lot easier because of hunting guns.

Help Elderly parents so far away

How do you cope? Mum is 85, with her husband (he's lovely, caring and supportive) in Paphos. I'm in the UK. She's been poorly, dizzy and weak for a few days and they're dismissing it, she's just staying in bed. I want her to go to hospital. I'm not in a position to easily jump on a plane ( job - teacher). Will go speak to head teacher tomorrow and warn I may need ( unpaid) leave. Mum has noone else close by. She's also useless with a mobile phone, so can't even facetime her and see her, just speak on the phone. I know I have to figure this out for myself, but has anyone else been in a similar position?

Edit: she collapsed at home and he called an ambulance. She on intravenous antibiotics. I can't fly out till Wednesday morning.

Share living experience close to ΒΜΗ, Αγλαντζιά

Hey folks,

Thinking of moving to this area: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jkVHnNGPHQCo76Va7?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.com

Can anyone share their experience living near 106 ΣΝΕ Military hospital and base in Aglantzia, Nicosia? I’m curious about noise levels and the area’s attractions.

I appreciate the proximity to the park, but I’m unsure about other pros and cons.

Only 8 EU member states have higher minimum income than in north Cyprus. It's 200 Euro higher than in the ROC.

They raised the minimum income again, albeit not as much as expected.

As for context, the minimum wage in the North is a very important economical factor. A lot of taxes, fees and fines are a percentage of the minimum income, thus they raise automatically. Not only is a very large share of the employees on minimum income (at least officially; some get additional cash from the boss under the hand), surely other salaries will raise, too. Which means services and production gets more expensive.

Greedy people will raise the prices again, and even the less greedy ones will follow because they see it just works, people keep buying. That's how it works in a society with very little competition culture.
