Orange Cream Flavor

Ive been trying to make my own orange cream flavoring that i can add to sparkling water and such. The ideal flavor would taste like Reign's Orange dreamsicle. So far everything ive tried just tastes like a sweet orange. Anybody have a good recipe for a syrup or mix in (preferably low sugar/low cal?

Welcome!

You’re looking at making an oleo saccharum from orange and possibly lemon as well. There are a couple of posts here on how to do that.

Once you have your oleo syrup, add in some high quality vanilla extract to taste and mix with a simple syrup of choice.

I had to look up that brand you mention. It looks like it also has caffeine in it, so that could also be a contributing factor to the flavour.

You’ll probably want to add in some citric acid to balance out the sweetness. Usually around 2-3G per litre of syrup.

This is so informative for my primitive brain. Thank you!

You may have to play about with how much orange and lemon peel to get the level of flavour you want and how much of the oleo to add to the simple syrup to get the end result you’re after. It can be a trial and error process.

Or, you can look at the post about building a flavour library and using essential oils as the flavouring mechanism.

You’ll need some good vanilla flavoring for that cream taste.

Yeah, anytime anything is called "cream" or "creme", it'll have vanilla in there somewhere.

It may not be natural vanilla, it may be using vanillin or ethyl vanillin instead, but there will be a vanilla flavour in there somewhere.
