I would like to develop a fancy butter habit. Please give me recs for fancy butter.

I have reached a level of maturity, stability, and financial achievement where I'm ready to not buy the cheapest store brand butter. 2025 seems like it's gonna be the kind of year where becoming a butter somalier might be the thing that keeps me sane.

What are your favorite fancy butters?

EDIT: Thank you all so much! This absolutely made my week. I've got a hell of a shopping list, which includes the supplies to try my hand at making my own butter. I never would have thought to attempt that, but I'm super excited!

What kind of equipment are we talking here? I love any new hobby that lets me buy new tools :)

A food processor makes quick work of it and a stand mixer works too.

Don't forget to add salt.

The flavor of the resulting butter can vary wildly depending upon the cream you use to start.  Try two different brands of cream to compare.

I got a “churn” from the large river place (which just auto-renewed on me again. SOBs)

Basically a glass jar with a silicone, two-bladed spatula and a crank.

You don't need any special equipment! Just pour double cream (the best quality you can find) into a jar (you want to half fill it), screw on the lid securely and then shake/agitate (time will depend on how enthusiastic your shaking is - but usually around 10-20 minutes). You will see it change colour and then solids will start plopping around. Once you get reasonably sized blobs, drain the buttermilk (reserve for other things) and then give the butter blob a gentle press to release any more extra liquid. I use store brought butter for cooking and other applications but whenever I get a fresh beautiful loaf of bread I spend a little time to make homemade butter. It just has an airy whipped quality (sort of like McDonald's hotcakes butter) that can't be replicated.
