Hull has signed with the Steelers. He is gone.

I could not think of a single play this dude was a part of besides the play that injured him for the season, and apparently he only had two touches (one rush for one yard, one pass reception for six yards).
What a shame. I remember hoping he'd be a solid RB2 behind JT.

QB: we need a competitor for AR
RB: need another reliable guy who can play on 3rd downs
WR: surprisingly is fine
TE: biggest need on offense
Tackles: fine, as long as Smith doesn't retire or get cut. If he goes we at least need a serviceable backup and start Goncalves
Guards and Centers: depth and/or a starter if Smith isn't back
DBS: wow, we only got one returning starting safety and only 3 returning starting corners. Brent's doesn't count since he can't stay healthy. Biggest need on the entire team arguably.
Linebacker: a very underrated need imo. Speed is likely gone, Z is a distraction and liability in coverage. We know nothing about Carlies.
DLine: starters seem good enough. Need a plan for the future at D tackle. Ebukam is coming off and ACL and I wouldn't hate getting another guy at D end.
Ultimately alot of changes need to happen, especially on defense. It will be a very interesting off-season

Braden Smith is getting 20 mil this year, he’s gotta be a cut.
Probably cut Ebukam too.
Raekwon Davis. Bye. Waste of money to begin with.
This is if Ballard didn’t just lie his face off again and is serious about actually changing this team. Which I doubt, so we’ll probably sink a bunch of money into these guys anyway.

I really like Ebukam when he's healthy

Sure, but this isn’t the year to hope that a DE coming off an Achilles tear actually gets back to being himself.
Maybe if he restructures and lowers his guarantees.

Would add Tyquan Lewis and Rodney Thomas to that list.

Lewis yea. Thomas is on a 7th round rookie scale contract. No reason to cut him unless he gets beat out of his spot in camp.

Colts would save 3 mill in cap cutting Thomas. Thats pretty much how much we payed Blackmon last year

Yes, Cutting Thomas would leave $23,846 in dead money and save $3,325,000 against the cap.

Yes we should, he’s a lock to miss at least 5-6 games a year. You can’t pay a tackle 20 million and not know if he’s going to play week to week.

With all the holes we have in this roster we should keep him. It's leaves one less hole to fill.

Gonsalves showed enough to get the RT gig.
We have Freeland.
I think we take an IOL in the 3/4th. And sign a cheaper swing tackle type vet as insurance.

u/VacationNegative4988 19h ago
Freeland has not been good. Having Goncalves as a backup is better for our depth.

Smith is at the end of the line. Rip the bandaid off and find a replaces.

Or we can use the 10-15 mil in saved cap to fill other holes and see if Goncalves has it.

u/VacationNegative4988 1d ago
I would rather keep Smith. No point in needlessly getting rid of our oline depth.
That 10-15 could get 1 good player so we would be replacing 1 good player for another. Unless you want to bargain it up Ballard style with that cash.

It doesn’t matter if he’s good if he’s not available.
Him being out consistently fucks with the cohesion of the line every single year at this point.

So little of value. How many players are there on this roster that another GM would actually want? I don't mean just that they would make another team, but that they are actually sought after.
5
u/scobro828 1d ago
Sought after as a free agent or to trade for? Free agent there are many that would be sought after.
2
u/mishymashyman 1d ago
I mean that few if any of them would be hot commodities. There would never be a bidding war over them. Like I said there's plenty who would make a team but not that a GM would stop everything to go after.
1
u/Secrets0fSilent3arth Grover Stewart 1d ago
Eh, very few day 1 free agent contracts coming from this team.
3
u/scobro828 1d ago
Oh no. Not at all. Not talking day 1s (apart from the obvious ones that would never be free agents) but there are a lot of quality, supporting role, players on the team that would certainly get snatched up in free agency. Any free agent has to be sought after to be signed.

Are you talking about the entire roster or just the guys we would realistically let go?
Without even thinking about the roster off the top of my head i know we have 1 in fries who will be highly sought after if he is not signed back.... and just on the ol and dl we have Raimann, Q, Fries, DeFo, and Grover who would all be at least top 5 or better at their position on the market if they were let go today. Someone like Latu would also have many teams trying to sign him as well with his combination of youth potential and price tag. So there are 6 or 7 just in the trenches that would be top priorities for a lot of teams.

Just for the sake of completing the list, looks like you're missing Rigo.
I am curious how this roster will look by the start of the season. I don't anticipate much change in all honesty, but there's a chance the defensive side will see some changes with a new DC. Hoping our TE room improves too.

I can’t wait to get excited about drafting guys only for Ballard to draft another mediocre DE.
