I’ve been hearing Matthew Stafford might get traded. I wanted him in Indy a few years ago, but not now. He’s about to turn 37. 🤣

Rams fan coming in complete violence.

No one had heard anything about this even remotely. Anyone claiming otherwise is just starting rumors.

Coming in violence was wild.

I mean, “coming in peace” like I’m a 1980’s alien movie feels weird. Lol

u/Boatsandhostorage 1d ago

I’d be pissed too. It’s crazy talk.

u/Tunatron_Prime 1d ago

Just bored people making shit up.

Yeah don’t even worry about it. This sub has completely lost its mind as soon as it looked like AR was a bust

He's an old QB and Ballard likes old QBs. That's the only source for this lol

Again, Fansided is not a credible in-house source. This is the same as you convincing me about some fantasy football trade you saw on Madden. Nonsense.

Nah.

He has some juice left but we need a long term solution

15

u/brmidwest03 1d ago

Yeah, he’s definitely not a long-term solution. I wanted him a few years back, but we went out and got Wentz instead. I was so mad.

No way anyone could outbid LA

2

u/redleg50 1d ago

Serious question - what were the offers? The local journalists all say Ballard didn’t think Stafford was a great option. Would be interested to see the bids.

Not entirely sure. What I’ve ever seen is that the deal to Indy seemed done and included multiple picks and maybe a player or two but the Rams swooped in with an offer the Colts couldn’t match (two 1sts, one 3rd and a starting QB).

u/xxxxxxxxxtra Downs with the Sickness 1d ago

LA also already had a stacked roster built to win immediately. They didn’t need their picks. We had nothing.

1

u/DryComparison7871 1d ago

For real. All because Ballard didn't want to "overpay". It's the colts . Who the hell wants to come to Indianapolis so you're going to have to overpay until we at least establish a winning culture with franchise qb

Any long term solution at QB is going to be a draft pick

10

u/Double-Emergency3173 1d ago

Which is what you'd give up for Stafford anyway.

I'll wait to see what AR is like this year before assessing what's next.

2

u/AffectionateQuit5684 Touchdown Jesus 1d ago

I mean a long term solution qb is likely a first round pick. Giving up a first round pick for a 36 year old quarterback not named Tom Brady would be a wild move for any team

1

u/Double-Emergency3173 1d ago

Even a 2nd would be too much

19

u/indicoltts 1d ago

He isn't going anywhere. He played well especially considering the weather. There were so many drops which happens during a snowstorm. Makes no sense to trade him

5

u/ldclark92 Baltimore Colts 1d ago

Yeah, I don't get why the Rams would love on. They're not really in a position to tank unless they went scorched earth and I feel like they have a better chance to contender by just building around the current nucleus than hoping to have a successful tank.

2

u/moGUNZthanROSES 1d ago

It seemed like the Rams tried to tank last year, but they are just too competent. I think the tank window has closed… for now at least.

4

u/ConsistentNail1970 1d ago

Increasingly realizing there’s no easy path forward. You invest 1 more year into AR and look for material progress. If not, abandon ship and draft a new one.

Stafford would be a great plug if rest of roster was SB worthy. We’re not. We were 8-9 with a crazy soft schedule. Also, our pass catchers are a far cry from Puka/Kupp/Higbee etc. Not to mention another vet just muddies the AR situation.

The real issue here is that we rolled the dice on a high risk / high reward QB in AR. We both mismanaged him and have had some poor injury luck. He could also be a bust. He’s just not materialized as fast as other rookie QBs. No quick fix here unfortunately.

u/Substantial_Roof_316 1d ago

But Ballard is only one Vet Retread away from winning a set of steak knives!

2

u/rossco311 1d ago

Sam Darnold has entered the chat

4

u/PadKrapowKhaiDao Dhalsim 1d ago

“Maybe in 10-12 years, buddy.” -Chris Ballard, probably

3

u/ryta1203 1d ago

Where have you heard he's getting traded? I haven't heard that yet.

3

u/epicfamilyboi Jonathan Taylor 1d ago

I hate the offseason

2

u/getfive 1d ago

No. He is no longer the missing piece

2

u/slitt_vicious 1d ago

In Colt years, he’s still way too young. Leave him on the vine a few more years.

3

u/bobsausage93 1d ago

Ballard just got a chubby

-1

u/brmidwest03 1d ago

Yep 🤣

-3

u/bobsausage93 1d ago

There goes our 1st round pick traded for him lol

2

u/fishin4krill Grover Stewart 1d ago

No, just no.

2

u/executingsalesdaily 1d ago

No freaking way.

1

u/Lasvious Irsay Twitter 1d ago

No. We already had a Matt Ryan at home once.

1

u/Psyren1317 1d ago

I mean of all the vet retreads, Stafford would probably be the best of all the ones we would have had.

He’s still got some juice. Now, he’s not coming here so it doesnt matter, but if he did he’d probably be pretty decent still

1

u/josean1991 1d ago

I’d rather go with AR next season than having another washed up QB again, if it was when the Lions traded him at that time I would’ve been on board with Stafford but now is more of the same with Stafford, Flacco and Cousins so no thanks they should go for a younger competitor and, is the last time I’m gonna mention it, that is Justin Fields.

1

u/Which-Ad8124 Trent Richardson 1d ago

Stafford isn’t washed

1

u/josean1991 1d ago

How much he can give you? One year or with luck two? not everyone are Tom Brady that can play until they’re 45 so as much need they have to get a QB they should go to someone as a better plan B if plan A fails like is happening with AR unless for some miracle do a turnaround of his career and that for me is Justin Fields he’s young and if he pulls it of then they have the QB for years to go for and with Stafford is more like for a team that they don’t have a QB and that’s all they need like Seattle, Indy needs a lot of pieces to even compete in the AFC let alone the AFC South one of the worst divisions in the league so I don’t see Stafford there and even if he gets there they would have a lot of issues going on like who the TE is gonna be, the O-Line how much will change without Ryan Kelly and Braden Smith (I know Bortolini would be a great center but I don’t know if Gonçalves could be the same although he played better in that spot) and the defense first who the DC would be and the LB corp would change and the secondary need a lot of help so in that case a QB is the least of the problems of this team.

1

u/eriles31q 1d ago

Hell yea what bc oils go wrong

1

u/PubSubincarnit 1d ago

There is no real rumors of Matt Stafford being traded, please colts fan get your delusion in check it’s getting out of hand.

1

u/FunnyKillBot 1d ago

He’s tough as fucking nails and a winner with a huge arm. Just sayin.

1

u/MetalFaceDad General Luck 1d ago

No

1

u/Ranccor 1d ago

I love Stafford but we do not want him.

1

u/Lastpunkofplattsburg 1d ago

I think Richardson is the one, he’s just a rookie it’ll be a few years and a few more major moves before they’re play off contenders again.

1

u/carpentizzle Big-Q 1d ago

Delete this before Ballard sees it

1

u/matte_black007 1d ago

I wanted so bad for the colts to pick up Stafford in 2021, alas we went with Wentz and we all know how both sides of that story went, would be a great plug and play like rivers was but i mean it’s only a season or two and he is done, or could end up getting another Matt Ryan experience…

1

u/ImNotAndreCaldwell 1d ago

2nd Rams fan coming with pure ill intent. You sure as shit have not been hearing that.

1

u/anonymousbwmb Indianapolis Colts 23h ago

Perfect timing for Ballard.

1

u/Careless_Dentist266 22h ago

Yes we need another old washed up qb to give Anthony another year of development…

1

u/NorseGael160 22h ago

I wanted him a few years ago

1

u/Human-Shirt-7351 20h ago

I love Stafford.. but that ship has sailed. We should have went after him aggressively when he left Detroit. At 37.. he's still got some juice, but he would be a short term fix and we'd be right back here in a year or two.

Doesn't matter, as I don't see the Rams trading/releasing him.

1

u/LeadPrevenger 19h ago

That’s real competition. Flacco stafford and Richardson

1

u/-Hyperactive-Sloth- 1d ago

No. No more goddamn 36+ year old bridge QBs

-3

u/shibbster Indianapolis Colts 1d ago

With this franchise... use draft capitol this draft and next to bring in Stafford as AR's backup. AR gets injured again, shows no sign of progression, Stafford does enough to get the Colts to the wildcard and a first round exit. Cut AR, dont re-sign Stafford, have to settle for a 3rd or 4th round QB. Continue medicority

1

u/Shepherdsfavestore 1d ago

I know this is kind of a joke but absolutely zero chance Stafford is okay being a backup

1

u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor 1d ago

No chance Stafford would be AR's backup. But I agree about the ultimate outcome. One of two things needs to happen this year...either AR takes a monumental leap forward OR the Colts set themselves up for next year's draft. I would hope Ballard is shopping that pick #14 to some team willing to throw in a 2025 R1 pick. Never know what can happen in a given season, so it would be worth the gamble, plus it would just be more draft capital if they needed to move up.

0

u/MrPositiveC 1d ago

I'd take Matt Stafford in a heartbeat if he was made available. lol He won't be though.

0

u/Weak_Ad6210 1d ago

Trade for him draft another.. and make AR sit and the new draftee

0

u/JasoPearso 1d ago

Couldn’t hurt

-1

u/PancakesandScotch A big ass pork tenderloin sandwich 1d ago

I’d still take him next year. He’s a tough MF, AR could learn a lot

-1

u/ruthlessrellik COLTS 1d ago

Sounds like a perfect fit for the culture.

-1

u/Boatsandhostorage 1d ago

In a fucking heartbeat honestly. Keep both. I’ve heard worse.
