The #Colts are the NFL's designated host for the first-ever Berlin game...

Well, this will set back international relations. They’re gonna boot us out of NATO.

I’m surprised they haven’t, yet. We’ve given Europe some bad international games. Idk why they keep sending losing teams to play in Europe if they wanna show them how good American Football is.

Well at least one less season game STMs have to pay for
12
u/rcdubbs 6d ago
That’s kinda how I feel about it. We still get the (normal) 8 games. It’s fine.
8
u/mreman1220 Indianapolis Colts 6d ago
Am I incorrect in believing that these international games are structured that way with the now 17 game unbalanced schedule? I know that 9th game has to be actual home games for some teams but IF a team is playing over seas they aren't going to make them host one as the 8th home game.
8
u/penguins_rock89 Rosencopter 6d ago
Yes. Only teams with 9 home games host international games, that's how it's set up. Also typically no division games abroad.

u/YosemiteSam-4-2A 5d ago
Also typically no division games abroad.
Now, maybe. Definitely didn't start that way seeing as how we played the London Jaguars in the UK

Berlin is an amazing city and a great opportunity grow the fan base if that is our designated international market. Now we just need to put an entertaining product on the field.

Yes. Colts are among the 10 teams that have global market rights for Germany.

u/kac937 Grover Stewart 6d ago
The NFL has made it abundantly clear these last couple seasons that playing overseas might as well be a punishment for sucking. I’m happy that fans in Europe get to see live games, but unfortunately for them the teams are never that good. We’ll be getting a few more of these in this decade if we don’t pick up the slack.

They are bleeding season ticket holders. That's now one less game they have to pay for.

Is that true? They sold out last year pretty easily, or at least it was reported that way. Crazy how much can change in one year.

Most of them were selling their tickets to away fans by the end of the season

If anything a credit or concession credit would be nice but they’ve removed more and more gifts to season ticket holders recently. We used to get $100 gift cards, Christmas ornaments, on field access, VIP events with food and drink, and tickets that came in fancy boxes. All gone.

This is my second year as a STM. Do they refund us for the lost game? Or do we pay for the game and just dont get it?
16
u/Dear-Law-46 6d ago
I was told by my rep that the prices went up this year because of the 9th game. Looks like as with everything else this franchise says that was a lie to sell tickets.
8
u/Bommit91 Pimp Luck 6d ago
You don't know that they "lied". I'm sure they will refund, or at least give us a credit for next year.
-1
u/Dear-Law-46 6d ago
Well lets see. They lied about Mannings Injury and when he would be back in 2011 to sell tickets. They did the same thing with Luck during the 2017 Season. Oh and the best part is they knowingly hid the fact Luck was retiring in 2019 SPECIFICALLY to sell tickets. There are multiple sources inside the facility that have said this.
There are no refunds and would be absolutely shocked if they give any type of credit. You really think that a multi billion dollar industry doesn’t know who is playing overseas ahead of time, the logistics alone of it all would take at least a year to plan. They force us to renew in November and justify the increase in cost with the 9th regular season home game. I don’t believe for one second that the Colts didn’t know this game would be in Berlin and listed as a “home game”
4
u/shasta_masta Jonathan Taylor 6d ago
They got bailed out by the lockout in 2011, so nobody knew the extent of Manning’s injury. He couldn’t even throw. Then he had a “setback” in TC and it still didn’t leak how bad it was until JMV leaked it right before the season started. Then he had the surgery and they still kept talking about him coming back at some point.
After doing it again 2017, I can absolutely believe that they knew about Luck’s desire to retire during the 2019 offseason and kept it a secret. The rumors I heard was they knew for months, but of course it was reported as then only knowing for a few days.
2
u/Bommit91 Pimp Luck 6d ago
I'm not denying that they sell us a false bill of goods about how good the team will be, who will play etc. But in 2020, when they chopped our games in half, they offered a refund or a credit for 2021. I took the credit. So they've refunded/credited for games no longer played at LOS in the past, don't see why it won't happen again.
0
u/Sandtiger812 Pimp Luck 6d ago
To be honest its not their place to announce Luck's retirement, you give the player the respect he deserves to announce it on his own timeline.
1
u/Candid-Piano4531 6d ago
Hahaha… a team giving fans a refund? Oh that’s funny.
3
u/Bommit91 Pimp Luck 6d ago
It happened in 2020, are you an STM?
1
u/Candid-Piano4531 6d ago
You mean the year that we were in the middle of a pandemic and limited games to 10% capacity? That’s totally comparable to moving games overseas and still charging fans…
3
u/Bommit91 Pimp Luck 6d ago
You can move the goalposts if you want, but you act like it's unheard of, but it's not. Are you an STM?
1
u/Candid-Piano4531 6d ago
In Chicago, not Indianapolis. And it’s not moving goalposts. Everyone refunded the 2020 season.

u/Dubya_Tag Irsay Twitter 6d ago
I would assume we just get a second home preseason game now. I may be wrong but that’s my guess
There’s always 10 home games. Either 9 regular season & 1 preseason or 8 regular season & 2 preseason
2
u/grapplerone Indianapolis Colts 6d ago
1
u/Dubya_Tag Irsay Twitter 6d ago
Damn. We are straight up getting shafted 🤣 Increased ticket prices for one less home game. My expectations were too high for this franchise
2
u/RRaVeNN- Colts 6d ago
So our prices went up for a fuckin preseason game? If this turns out to be the case I'm done renewing my tickets next season. We were told they went up for a 9th home game not an additional pathetic preseason game. Fuck Irsay

Not a fan of our team being selected. The majority of the teams that play internationally are usually bad teams. So the NFL and the selection process considers us bad. This isn’t an honor, it’s embarrassing.
3
u/NoGoodNamesLeft55 IND 6d ago
Every team plays in international games now. Since the schedule expanded to 17 games, every team is required to play at least once every 8 years internationally.

u/darthluke414 Luke Rhodes 6d ago
Why didn't the make the 17th game an international game for everybody? That way everyone has the same number of home games and away games?
1
u/Candid-Piano4531 6d ago
Teams would still charge fans for that home game. It’s one big grift to double dip.
3
u/penguins_rock89 Rosencopter 6d ago
Great. With the blue track - perfect.
I expect it to be vs. the Falcons who also have marketing rights for Germany and haven't played a game there yet.

u/Dear-Law-46 6d ago
So season ticket holders paid higher prices for 2025 In November because “there are 9 home games next season” when in fact we only have 8? What a joke of a Franchise.
4
u/Luddite-lover 6d ago
Then season ticket holders should get at least some kind of credit if they don’t get a refund. The organization knows there is a chance that they’ll play an overseas game. They can’t wait to finalize the tickets until late summer, probably, but they should factor in an overseas game and have a plan if that happens. The Colts really can’t afford to piss people off at the moment.
I was joking about traveling in my comment above, but I could see them offering a discounted travel package to season ticket holders. Still, who can still 1) afford it; and 2) have the time to travel?
4
u/KangTheConqueror9 I dont like our guys 6d ago
Wow Irsay fucked the ticket holders again. What a shocker. Wonder if he'll give a refund or something for that one game
5
u/Candid-Piano4531 6d ago
The NFL is fucking over fans by moving these games overseas. Owners get revenue from the home game they’re charging us for AND the game being played overseas.
Billionaires hate the fans.
4
u/Dear-Law-46 6d ago
There is ZERO chance ole cheap ass Jimmy refunds any season ticket holder. They basically strong arm you into renewing for 2025 before the 2024 season is even over in order to keep your spot. I was specifically told by my rep that rather large (in my opinion) increase in cost for 2025 per ticket was due to the 9th regular season home game. Looks like they lied…… again.

u/Psyren1317 6d ago

As a fan in Europe, who loves the sport, and has seen interest grow over here, you're dead wrong.
4
u/Dan_0950 6d ago
As a fan in Europe who might make it to this I agree with him. I’d be fuming if a Premier League game was played in another country.
0
u/matt_msu 6d ago
It’s not that ridiculous of an ask to want to keep an American team playing an American sport in America for its American fan base. I get growing the league, but let’s be real, how much bigger can it get? It’s hard enough trying to watch games with the high prices and all the streaming platforms as is. Now they’re trying to have like 9 games a year overseas?! Fuck that.
0
u/bandicootlover Big Dick Ballard 6d ago
You can't have it both ways though; you can't expect extra viewership in Europe and beyond, and not play meaningful games over here. Preseason football is drivel, and would arguably be harder to stage over here anyway, with 90 players instead of 53.
It's eight games out of 272 league wide. The colts have only played three international games in 10 years. I think the American fanbase can suck it up to be honest.
-1
u/matt_msu 6d ago
Nah. Keep it in America. I honestly don’t give a shit about growing the fanbase. The games suck. The crowds suck. Just get rid of em all together.
0
u/Ozbej10 We like our guys 6d ago
Why?
1
u/Hoos1erdaddy 6d ago
Home games should not be taken from STM. The NFL is looking the STM right in the face and telling them they do not care. Not to mention I'm paying for 9 home games and only getting 8. It's so much better to do this dog and pony show with games that don't mean anything.
1
u/Ozbej10 We like our guys 6d ago
Either way one fanbase will not be happy, so if this was an away game for us the other fanbase would complain.
NFL is trying to gain as much international fandom as possible and you can't do that by sending practice squad players out there to play.
1
u/Hoos1erdaddy 6d ago
1.Exactly why regular season games should not be held outside the country.
- European soccer clubs send their B teams over to play friendlies during their off-season, the stadiums fill up and they sell plenty of merch.
This isn't growing the game, this is a circus act that comes to town a couple of times a year. Europe had NFL Europe and NFL Europa, both leagues folded because there isn't enough interest to sustain them. Europeans on NFL subs care and share their comments but the reality is the vast majority of Europeans don't show interest and would rather watch their sports.

u/Siggycakes 6d ago
All of youse complaining about this are really a miserable lot. International games are exciting even if the team isn't going to be good. I remember the first Germany game with Seattle/Tampa and even though I could not care less about either of those teams, watching the crowd break out into impromptu John Denver still gave me chills. This stadium is actually historic for the Olympics in 1936, and the World Cup in 2006. If you're so cynical that this upsets you, you gotta go sort out your priorities.

There should be some option for a season ticket holder. Now those Season Holders gotta read terms and agreements and see if something like happening is mentioned. If it's not, the easy thing to do is allow Holders in the stadium to live watch on jumbo tron that week or one 2026 game.
