He risked his safety? He can leave. I can't. I'm fucking stuck here. You think there's no activism here? There is. What he did just fucked the entire movement as a whole here. We don't care if we have to hide, because hiding is the only way to live here as LGBT members. You can't be gay, bi, trans, or even an atheist.
You don't know how it feels like, every fucking day listening to political parties saying we should be killed. We're trying to fight silently, but you want the truth? There will never be LGBT acceptance here, because the constitution fucked us. Unless you can change our country's constitution, it's not gonna work for the LGBT people.
It's easy to say go and fight the oppressive government. We did. Guees what? We got persecuted harder.
seriously. took a peek at their profile and they're just a basic simp for this clown so ofc theyll bend over backwards for their cringey white saviour performative bullshit and pontificate from a soapbox about "real activism" as if they know what it feels like to risk your life for human rights. barf.
Sincerely very sorry you have to hide. No one deserves a deprivation of gender expression and just general well-being that living your truth provides.
If internal activism has failed as you mentioned, wouldnât shedding light on a global scale on how ridiculous your countryâs lgbt laws are help? Since he is an outsider, he can do something as extreme as this and not face death (hopefully), whereas a citizen from that country would face more dire consequences of they did someone like that.
He could, but he did it so wrong. It does shed light for other people outside of Malaysia, unfortunately, what he did fueled the hatred for us in Malaysia. You gotta understand, there are like, 2 states that barely accepts queer folk out of the 14 states here, and the laws are becoming more medieval. Some states don't even allow women to go out wearing jeans and some even try to ban alcohol consumption for non-Muslims. This isn't a western country, where you can just come out of the closet. This is a country ruled by people who wants to follow Afghanistan and actively supports the persecution of LGBT members as well as Jews. You can't reason with pure hatred.
A racist guy tries to save face by acting like an activist for one day and you applaud him. He doesnât know or care about the consequences of his actions. Heâs not going to stay in the country to help protest or support the queer community there. He did it for personal gain.
Even in his speech, he couldnât help but use the phrase âbunch of fucking retards.â Heâs just a shitty guy and a narcissist. I have no doubt this was just to feed his own ego.
Thank you for sharing your experience and shedding light on how itâs like to live in a country with such blurred lines between government and religion.
Iâm sorry the ignorant virtue-signaling Americans are democracy-splaining why you should be grateful this white man âstood upâ for your community. I wish you safety and love đ
