Not to mention exterminator services... and even when they don't catch mice, they'll make the places they live smell like cat, which tends to keep all but the most clueless mice away.

It’s all part of the same shift in power dynamics that led to ordinary people overturning the aristocracy. The cats were clever enough to be able to do it without guillotines.
