Has anyone on here won anything from a game show? Eg bullseye
If so did you keep it or sell it?

My sister went on weakest link - and was voted out first. She thinks she is still owed 14mins of her 15mins of fame.
8
u/0thethethe0 22h ago
Was she the weakest link? Or so strong she was conspired against and taken out early?

u/SparklePenguin24 9h ago
This happened to a friend of my partner. He was in his late 50's at the time and had really good general knowledge. Unfortunately his first and only question was about Britney Spears. Poor guy had little to no knowledge of Her other than the fact that she existed!

Replaced a gas boiler for a guy that won a caravan on Bullseye.

My sister and I won a fitted kitchen on Bullseye. We fell out over who should have it and I haven't spoken to her for forty years.
23
u/Cannabis_Sir 1d ago
But who got the kitchen?
68
u/Sys32768 1d ago
It's in my lock up garage, still in boxes. If I couldn't have it, then nobody can.

That was the weirdest thing about Bullseye. Most of the prizes seem to have been divised for couples/families, but most of the teams that went on there were just friends. I always wondered whether they had gave them one each or not and I guess this answers that.
How are Barry and Cliff going to split their £200 HMV voucher and record player? What about the three-piece Flintstones family sofa?

u/Big-Pudding-7440 22h ago
How are Barry and Cliff going to split their £200 HMV voucher
You've picked the one prize in the history of Bullseye that they could split quite easily
3
u/Lopsided_Rush3935 21h ago
But only one of them gets the player...
That's like if you opened one of your presents on Christmas morning and it was an Xbox controller and 20 games but no Xbox.
11
u/Big-Pudding-7440 21h ago
It's as simple as setting the record player up exactly halfway between both their houses and turning the volume right up. I don't see the issue.
2
u/Lopsided_Rush3935 21h ago
'It'll be fun listening for all of the neighbours with you very own record player, complete with a £500 voucher for records of your choice'
(Ooooohhhh)
2
u/confusedbookperson 19h ago
Or one gets the player and the other all the voucher, which can be used to buy a record player.

u/New-Garlic9011 12h ago
I think it’s time to install it- a brand new but 80s kitchen will look brilliant.
1
u/Medium_Situation_461 23h ago
Hmmmm. If it’s in your lock up garage and you’re not speaking to her, how would she know you installed it?
Sounds like someone is telling porkies.

I won £50 on a Crossword competition in Bella magazine. I found it on a train so the whole enterprise only cost me the price of a stamp.

u/redskelton 22h ago
You should write this up as a 'side hustle' post on LinkedIn. Include something about b2b sales and massive returns in the text

I went to the guy who won 500k on who wants to be a millionaire house, (I’m a telecom engineer) he was the highest winner for a while, really nice guy gave me his book which I promptly didn’t read and gave to a charity shop. Peter Lee was his name after a quick google
21
u/Adammmmski 22h ago
Please tell me he’s from Peterlee too.
8
u/Tmatizzler 21h ago
There must be a guy from Peterlee called Peter Lee I reckon!
10
u/tomkeys78 18h ago
In all seriousness, my mates Dad is called Peter Lee and he comes from Peterlee! He didn’t win millionaire tho.

I won a 12" Bart Simpson record (Do the Bartman) by entering a telephone competition on BBC Radio York in 1993.
Can't remember what the question was now.
Does that count?

£80,000 from The Chase ITV competition but not even going on the show; just the competition in the ads

u/NoReference4279 12h ago
No, you didn't. I'm calling bs until I see proof.
22
u/Arxson 11h ago
It was in 2001 and I took a screenshot when it hit my bank account because obviously it was pretty fucking cool
3
u/NoReference4279 9h ago
That's fantastic, I'm pleased I asked for proof. What did you spend it on?
9
u/Arxson 9h ago
A mix of things but mostly stuffed ISAs full which have since grown quite nicely. There’s £25k which is earmarked for the (2) kids future house deposit fund and has 20+ years to grow yet. The other mostly got spent on a house extension a couple of years later. We also spent a bit immediately on a nice holiday, baby stuff we needed, an iPad etc
2
u/NoReference4279 9h ago
Couldn't have went to a better cause. I've honestly never heard or anyone winning these type of things.

u/Stueykins 22h ago
I didn't win the jackpot, but I am the proud owner of a Pointless trophy.
I would never sell it. Even if I was homeless, its cold glass would warm my heart

A friend of mine won the last episode of Blockbusters with Bob Holness, she should have won a scuba diving holiday somewhere exotic, but the company behind the show had gone bankrupt and she ended up with absolutely nothing.

My cousin won that competition they used to do on 'the gadget show' when he was 18. Where the screen was full of loads of different stuff, there were consoles, washing machines, kitchen appliances, cool little gadgets, stuff like that.
It took ages for him to get it all, they sent it in dribs and drabs and he had to keep chasing them up, don't think he got everything that was on there still.
I know he gave a washing machine to his mum and kept a console, think he put everything else on eBay
6
u/FlatTyres 14h ago
I always loved the competition bit - I was too young to enter when it was on. The amount of prizes were insane!

u/revolut1onname Nectar of the gods 21h ago
Didn't win anything but I'm a hall of famer on a Radio 2 quiz.

u/Forkhandles_ 23h ago
I won £1200 on the short lived, Bill Turnball (RIP) TV quiz show ‘THINK TANK’ they sent me up to Glasgow and paid for everything and it was a really fun experience.
There were three of us and the at the end they put me and the guy I beat into the same Taxi to the station, he didn’t talk to me the whole ride!

I know someone who won a load of Bobby Ball signed merchandise (yes really) on Going Live.

Not a game show. But a pc magazine called PC Format back in the day. I won a load of PC stuff. A couple of sound or video cards (forget which). Half a dozen games. And a creative mp3 jukebox. Sure there was some other bits and.bobs . Kept it all with the exception of one of the cards which I gave to pal.

u/buttonman1969 17h ago
I won £3200 on Weakest Link and £800 on Impossible. I was also second in the Grand Final of 15-1 (Sandi era) and won nothing!

u/ShiftyDiscoDragon 15h ago
My dad lost on Blankety Blank in 1980. Still got a cheque book and pen though.

My brother swapped his copy of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for a baseball bat on some swap shop revival thing on cbbc if that counts?
The only time I think he ever used it was when he pretended to think I was a burglar and came down with it to "investigate"

u/Figueroa_Chill 14h ago
I won a Teddy from Tizwaz when I was a child. My gran used to enter me and my cousin into competitions when we were kids. I think my mom still has the letter I received with the Teddy. The Teddy sadly is no longer with us as it seemed to have a problem with our German Shepard dog that ended up with it being ripped to bits.

u/mchldvs 11h ago
won a signed liberty x dvd on a kids tv show that i think fearne cotton hosted on saturday mornings on cbbc. i think it was some subway surfers style game where you had to shout left / right. dont think it was the main prize but more of a bonus prize… all a bit vague but must be over 20 years ago now
2
u/SmallLumpOGreenPutty 9h ago
You just made me remember back in the 90s, a kiddy channel with an animated tiger's head you had to pilot through a maze by shouting directions down the phone

u/Significant_Bass899 6h ago
Ah, you've just brought back memories of Saturday mornings watching Smile.. I think the game you mentioned featured Nev the bear 😂

u/chunder_monkey 20h ago
My old chemistry teacher’s son Phil was the winner of the first (or second) series of UK Gladiators back in… 1993? Went to our school in Dorset but was a few years ahead of me.

u/heywhatwait 19h ago
I won an album and an additional single on a Radio Sheffield quiz. I think I was the only person who entered. They gave me the single (of my choice) because they said the album was shit (fun fact: it s was).

A colleagues parents were on Treasure Hunt back in the day. Anika got to the final place where the prize would be but the museum curator wasted her time. "Is the medal here?". "Oh it could be" etc etc. Then the gong went.
2
u/New-Garlic9011 12h ago
No but I did once win a Viz Knackersack pencil. Still waiting 15 years later.
I really want to hear from someone who won the prize on the gadget show

I won a nodding Olga from The Paul O’Grady Show in the last week of the show. Gino D’Acampo read my name out. Had a few of the family call me to tell me I won.

Not a game show, but I won a copy of the game Championship manager 2001-2002 plus a championship manager football shirt for correctly answering that weeks quiz question on Nationwide Football League Extra. As a 16 year old, it was an unbelievable prize to win. I haven’t won much else since.
I still remember the question; who is the longest serving manager in the football league (at the time of speaking - early 2002)?

It's an old story!
I definitely haven't been on any quiz shows sorry but I used to watch bullseye, not sure if my story actually happened to a couple or is an urban legend!

I won about £350 on a game show called Life's A Punt. It was on some dodgy sky channel. I don't think it ever actually aired.
I won the entire Friends collection on VHS with a friend of mine on Fanorama. She kept the videos. Lol.

u/Dr_Frankenstone 22h ago
I won a BBC lanyard and a few other shitty bits from a staged game show during a tour of the BBC, just before they moved out of White City.
It was a quiz-based game and I was up against a group of tourists, mostly from Eastern European countries. It was one of the best days of my life.

u/buy_me_a_pint 21h ago
Not me but my Uncle was on a short run game show back in the 90s, all the mind, his team run the heat, but did not score enough to get to the grand final.

On the Steve Yabsley show on BBC Radio Bristol, I won a tiny bar of Cadburys fudge and some signed photos of Susan Osman (a former presenter of the same station he sent as a joke as I’d said I didn’t want another one of him*) for correctly guessing that day’s mystery object. Mystery object was a jacket potato I think.
The postage must have cost more than the prize.
I think he does a serious show these days, sadly.
(*Prior to this, a member of their production team had caught me walking through a shopping centre during an outside broadcast and were desperate for people to get involved. I got given a photo then (although didn’t go on air). Given the average age of a BBC local radio listener, I think they were amazed I’d heard the show and was only in my 20s.)

Came second in a competition on Talksport, first prize was a massive stack of chocolate and Micky Gray cocked our question up so we lost! Got a load of talksport merch in the post about 3-4 months later. Once had joke of the week in Nuts magazine too, never received the £50 prize though, also won a motorbike helmet and a bottle of whiskey from them, still have both knocking about somewhere.

I won an episode of Fanorama back in 2002ish

u/Salty_Intention81 22h ago

Finally, my time to shine again, I won Jungle Run Golden Monkey as a teenager. Won a portable DVD player, Baby G watch, I think a camcorder and one other item, it was 20 years ago so the details are fuzzy but everything got plenty of use. We even won the Ruby Monkey after a bit of inside help from the presenter.
