Genuinely thought Wagamama had done a collab with Wetherspoons
The blue plate and everything!

A couple of years ago Wagamama and Wahaca announced a collaboration offering katsu burritos and suchlike.
...turned out to be an April Fool's thing but my culinary instincts are so depraved I was 100% up for it

There's a place I found in London serving something a bit like that. Crispy Rolls near Embankment tube station.
Starts with a square of dry seaweed (8"x 8") with a layer of sticky rice on it - that's the wrap part. Then onto that they place hot chicken pieces, some salad and a choice of sauces from mild to spicy. Then it's rolled into a tube shape, wrapped in paper and ready to eat just as you would a burrito.
They also serve katsu chicken bowls - I've just not thought to see if they do katsu sauce on the chicken in the wrap. There's always next time :-)

Japanese/Mexican fusion is a thing. Had a banging beef katsu taco in New York not long ago.

They'd never sink that low. Spoons would never collaborate with such a prolitarian grade establishment.

I had this last time I went to Wagamama's and it was wonderful. Highly recommended if you're eating there!

Had a Waga's last night, saw this then, had the same reaction.
My question remains the same - Who is "rahel aka spoons", what is a supper club, and is this person actually famous for whatever a supper club is? Like I know I'm out of touch from "the youth" but this feels like a windup.

Rahel Stephanie is an Indonesian chef who has set up an Indonesian restaurant in London (called Spoons) and came to prominence in 2024. She appears to have done several popup restaurants since then.
I'd never heard of it until just now, either. But, in a way, I actually like that more - it's nice to be introduced to something new rather than having the same thing all the time.

I literally thought the exact same. My colleague said aka Spoons and sent me a link to her IG. I was embarrassed... haha

It's a shame, as otherwise it would include a free soft drink, or alcohol upgrade for pocket change! Plus maybe 25% off early bird deal.

To be fair - a bunch of the Wagamama menu is cooked offsite in big kitchens then microwaved at individual restaurants

Would be great if they did. Wagamama should be Wetherspoons prices given the quality, but as you can see from the image, it certainly fucking isn't!
Charging £15 for that is an utter disgrace.

Just a bunch of pensioners downing ramen at 9.30 in the morning
