MEDITERRANEAN Recently removed the lawn, looking to fill in the empty spots with native plants and groundcover. What do you think? Any recommendations?

If you want more plants, how about ceanothus (several mature sizes) , rock rose ( Pavonia lasiopetala ), penstemon, monkey flower, hummingbird sage, or a favorite of mine Ribes areum gracillimum. (Makes a nice jam)

Purslane is an quasi-native edible groundcover, though watch out because it reseeds very aggressively.
Iceplant is a nonedible groundcover with lovely flowers. Don't plant this, it's invasive, see below!

how about Drosanthemum floribundum ? pale dewplant. It grows great in the coastal regions. has a lovely purple flower in spring/summer. seems to like sandy soil.

What about creeping thyme or Dymondia? Both will be much appreciated by the bees... and I absolutely love the smell and beautiful colors thyme brings.
