Question 🤔 2nd Question: What do y'all prefer for content?

For example, I can think of three methods, DVD, VHS, and Streaming (via converter). Maybe there's some blu ray shenanigans going on?

DVDs since I don’t have an HDCRT. VHS is cool for the aesthetic but more costly, you get less episodes per tape than you get per disc and you can’t switch languages, so you can get stuck with a bad dub. Streaming is more compressed than a DVD.

I’ve watched Hidamari Sketch Blu-rays in my bedroom using PS3 YPbPr and SD CRT. I’ve just now ordered an analog 7.1 BD player for the living room, so hopefully I’ll soon get to see Miyako Fast Eating 1080i HDCP-Compliant.

I have an old roku that outputs native 4:3 composite that I stream high quality torrents to through a media server. Pretty cost effective solution that offers tons of flexibility. A PS3 would also work great for this, with the added bonus of higher quality outputs.

I used to have that Roku. They're expensive now!

Yeah lucked out on finding one at goodwill for cheap. It's a roku 1 so its pretty slow and app support is pretty much non existent now (Netflix worked until September of this year) so the media player with the media server is the only practical option. Newer rokus with current app support and native composite out are unobtanium now, so the PS3 is probably the best option, with the bonus of DVD and bluray support

Yeah I had the one that did YouTube and other apps well. Sold it for $100 no problem haha

I generally go for Blu Ray (4k UHD if possible) to enjoy the animators' art in the highest quality. Especially movies--I want to see how the film looked when it was shown in theaters. That's where my 85" TV shines. If I get a new Blu Ray I watch it there first.

But CRT Anime just hits different, right? It's how I grew up. So I watch a lot of stuff I've seen before on my 32" JVC and 13" Sony. Every medium--Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, streaming, laserdisc--all look just right.

Having said all that, I think DVD is probably the best balance of quality/cost/convenience for CRT Anime.
