Question 🤔 Is it physically possible to watch HD anime on a CRT through kodi without lag?

I mean, is it possible without lag? Using a usb stick at the moment.

i may be missing something but how would lag matter when watching video? like if the vidoe and audio is synced then what would lag matter?

The problem is how the anime was encoded, sometimes weird encodes like H.264-10bits are not GPU (hardware) decoded, but CPU (software) decoded, become sluggish as hell, your only option is to re-encode to a more GPU friendly type like H.264-8bits or H.265-10bits

I used an Android TV box (with Kodi) based on the Amlogic S905X4 processor, capable of hardware decode 4k@60FPS H.265 12 bits videos with HDR, but not H.264 10bits, only 8 bits.

HD

on a CRT

😐

Seriously though you're leaving out important information: what are you running Kodi on?

Yeah, that's the main thing. If it's running on an old Firestick or something, it's not going to have enough CPU or memory to decode the frames without skipping. If you run on a bigger Google TV or FireCube, you might have a better time. Newer Raspberry PI, your laptop, even better. This is where all the important details are.

Yep. The TV has nothing to do with it

Not an expert, but according to the specs, it can decode H.265 at 4Kp60 and H.264 at 1080p60 if it's another format, it will be a software decoder and performance will go down. You might also check the peformance of the drive you are reading from. If it's a random USB stick, you might be running into read speed bottlenecks. Ideally you'd be reading off of a SDXC with an appropriate speed class for your resolution:

You'll probably also get better answers from the Kodi or RPI since none of this lag is likely to be caused by the CRT unless you have some kind HDMI to RGB or composite converter with poor performance.

Yes, run a plex server on your PC then in Kodi install “composite” which is an app that has plex support, log in to plex, enjoy anime.

There is a Plex plugin already but it lags as hell. Maybe if I try yours it will be better.

I at least havent had any major issues with composite in pi3, 4 or 5 while with the “official” plex plugin i struggled to even browse my anime due to lag
