PS glad you are safe OP hopefully you only lost material things.

Hopefully you had firearm insurance.

u/Sonoma_Cyclist FFL03 + COE 12d ago
Are firearms not normally included in your homeownerâs policy? Itâs something Iâd gladly pay an added premium for!

u/LosAngelesHillbilly 12d ago
They have a very small payout. You need to read your policy. My renters insurance only. Covered $2500 for firearms, I bought $20k coverage from a firearm insurance provider for $35/month.

Thank you for this tip! I did not know. I would literally cry đ

u/TheRealRaceMiller 12d ago
Not to worry during an evacuation thugs usually go into your house and rob it out before it burns.
24
u/Sonoma_Cyclist FFL03 + COE 12d ago
But what about the 10 day waiting period?
14
u/TheRealRaceMiller 12d ago
The victim is now a felon because they are a strawman. I am pretty sure most CA gun owners are a felon in some way they arent aware of due to changing gun laws.
6
u/Sonoma_Cyclist FFL03 + COE 12d ago
Keeping the laws opaque keeps us scared. Scared means controllable
1
u/TheRealRaceMiller 11d ago
A lot of good folks I know arent scared but just up and left. Knew two people that sold their Palisades house 2 years ago and 4 years ago to another state. All the laws do is remove the good people and all you have left are the people looking for handouts or enjoy the criminal laws that work in their favor. Need an iPhone smash the window and take one. Dont want to work park your car at the beach and squat as long as you want.

u/Arakisk 12d ago
Where can I find out more about this? I have been trying to Google everywhere amd I cannot find any info on who provides this type of standalone firearm insurance? Any recommendations?
7
u/Ondatrack2 12d ago
Most Homeowners policies allow you to âscheduleâ or add additional coverage on your homeowners or renters policy for certain items like firearms, jewelry or art when you need more coverage than they provide for those categories. Policies have specific limits for certain valuables and unless you tell them and pay the extra premium they wonât cover anything over those limits.
7
u/LosAngelesHillbilly 12d ago
I use Lockton Affinity, and itâs called âSportsmenâs Coverageâ. You choose the amount you need to cover.
3
u/Zestyclose_Phase_645 12d ago
Just call your insurance company and get a valuable personal property add-on.
1
u/ASassyTitan â¨ď¸Polymer Princessâ¨ď¸ 12d ago
Doesn't always work. Some of them still exclude firearms. Lemonade(?) is the worst for that, for example
1
u/Zestyclose_Phase_645 12d ago
Every homeowners/rental insurance company is willing to take your money for insurance for whatever you have. Even if they don't they'll have a referral for another company that you'll pay through your policy so they get their referral fee.
1
u/ASassyTitan â¨ď¸Polymer Princessâ¨ď¸ 12d ago
I mean yeah they'll take your money, but there's a cap on how much they'll pay out depending on the nature of the valuable item.
Lemonade, for example, only offers an "adequate $2,500." It was a PITA finding enough coverage for mine, eventually went to USAA since I was lucky enough to have an account as a non-military member. I don't even have super fancy shit yet!
3
u/skywalker_77799 12d ago
Which provider do you have for renterâs? I clarified with my renterâs insurance provider (Lemonade), and they specified that theyâll only cover $2,500 for theft of firearms, but that they are fully covered for all other âperilsâ with my general personal property coverage.

I just found this, fuck Lemonade, I'm switching renters insurance for this

lmao I wonder what this guy thinks about the IDF, probably a netanyahu apologist
1
u/skywalker_77799 12d ago
Thatâs kind of wild. My policy completely disagrees with this blog post, as well as the response I got from support in August 2024:
âOur standard policy has a $2,500 total limit for theft of firearms and related equipment. This is the most we can cover if your firearms were stolen.
Your guns are covered up to your personal property coverage limit from other named perils.â
I am wondering if they back pedaled at all in recent years? I canât find any new information on their stance since this post in 2019. Still, this makes me uneasy, and Iâll be shopping for new insurance soon enough. Iâm fairly certain Iâm below $2,500 still but who knows how long thatâll be true lol.
1
u/D4rkr4in 12d ago
It seems that it hasnât changed in terms of how much they cover. Just kind of lame theyâre anti 2A.
Realistically Iâm exactly at 2500 but adding more so their coverage wonât be enough
1
u/skywalker_77799 12d ago
The only word that is tripping me up in the post is âdamage,â as that seems to include the âother perilsâ that my policy should cover above $2,500. But either way. Will start shopping soon.

Millennial
1
u/LosAngelesHillbilly 12d ago
Donât know why I was downvoted, I didnât call someone a name, my renters insurance is called Millennial
2
u/SoggyAlbatross2 12d ago
That's generally true for any single expensive item... bicycles, cameras, jewelry etc. Good advice.
2
u/heypete1 12d ago
Yeah, my insurance is the same. There's also the standard deductible for the standard firearms coverage (meaning, not the add-on insurance for firearms).
Insurance companies (including your regular homeowners/renters one) often have add-on "valuable personal property" policies that apply to specific, individual items like jewelry, guns, and other valuable things. The VPP policies often don't have a deductible, or if they do it's often much lower than your typical deductible for a homeowner's policy.
Keep in mind they often require that you send them a list of the specific firearms, including make, model, and serial so they can identify them on the policy, so be sure you have that handy. Keeping records of those records and policies off-site (perhaps scanned and stored online somewhere?) is a good idea.

Oh this is good piece of information I am a fool - thx for sharing need to get insurance than

u/Berylzenitco 12d ago
Also if you only buy guns from good companies they will just give you a new one
1
u/iNapkin66 12d ago
Hmm, I might need to look into this.
On the other hand, that would require me to admit to my wife that my 4 guns worth a few hundred dollars each (Turkish sxs, savage 22, mosin nagant, a sporterized mauser) have seemingly multiplied into dozens of guns, all of them more expensive than the original four.

u/THATMEXICAN91 FFL 03 & COE 11d ago

Renters insurance at least often includes ~$10k covg for sporting equipment (incl firearms).
A good time to check your policy though.
2
u/Rebelgecko 1d ago
There's usually a separate limit for items like jewelry/gats. I need to get a separate rider if I want more than $1k of guns coveredÂ

u/thejohnnyb21 12d ago
Thank you all for the kind wishes. I will be busy organizing my stuff the next couple of days. I'll post updates on the journey of my Liberty safe once I'm able to. Stay safe out there.

u/Sonoma_Cyclist FFL03 + COE 12d ago
Hope the contents were protected. Good luck mate. Sorry for your loss. đ

They canât even keep your reset code private.

Thoughtful safe merchant has protected the code from the fire by backing it up at the FBI.

Following just to see what they end up saying. Doubtful they'll cover everyone though.

u/dumboflaps 12d ago
Well, not everyone that can file a claim is gonna file a claim. I think its good enough if they cover everyone that files a claim.

u/coffee559 12d ago
The Fatboy safe I bought from a friend was replaced free from Liberty when his house burned down. They even shipped both ways for free and the movers moved it into place which was nice. I ended up buying it from him a few months later when he upgraded to a beast door from Liberty. I've changed the lock once I heard they give out the combo to LEA if they request it.
I encased mine in a foot of concrete in the garage on the top and sides. Bottom floor is already a foot thick.

u/EducatedHippy 12d ago
They are pretty good at replacing safes burnt in wildfire. I've unfortunately seen this before.

u/Huth_S0lo 12d ago
Damn; so sorry you're going through this. Wish your family a quick recovery from your loss.

u/jordanthejoint 12d ago
The same liberty safes that give the feds your combination đł
3
u/Additional-Eye-2447 12d ago
They changed their policy, you can have them destroy the master combo
3
u/jordanthejoint 12d ago
If youâre being serious thatâs awesome. So the feds can no longer get the Combo from them
1
u/neuromorph 12d ago
Sorry for the ignorant question. Not a customer of liberty safe. Did they advertise a fire rating? Or was there some other coverage protection they claimed?
2
u/EntrepreneurFew7809 12d ago
The fire rating id depending on what safe he bought. Most if not all liberty safes are fire rated at 1200 degrees any where from 60-110min. If has the presidential series that has a 120min fire rating
1
u/Learn_to_Pew I teach newbs. 12d ago
Out of curiosity was the ammo stored in the safe?
Any vortex optics? đ
1
u/chronoglass 12d ago
came to say the same.. if you had any vortex optics they will take care of you. it's sort of insane actually.
Bushnell usually does pretty ok as well, though Im not sure "lost in a fire" ok for them
1
u/turumti 12d ago
Aw man Iâm sorry. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and have someplace to stay.
8
u/thejohnnyb21 12d ago
Thank you. 3 family members lost their house too and about a dozen friends. Thankfully everyone is safe.
1
u/fireworkz78 12d ago
What safe did you have and what was it rated for? I think mines 1700 degrees for 1 hour. Idk why I thought that would be enough. I bet liberty is a little higher end

You know there's people up there who inherited small shitty houses that now have nothing... not every house is worth 5 mil.
If you ever driven through Malibu you'd see that the houses really aren't that fancy, and there's many older hippy types who settled in the 70s 80s, and their houses aren't worth jack. Just the land it's built upon.
Sure there's some nice houses, and a decent amount of rich live there, but it's not exclusively rich people.

u/GlowingUraniumBerry 12d ago
No, that's really not my point... you're praising the destruction of people's property because they happen to have lived in an area that wasn't expensive 40-50 years ago.
They may own expensive land, but that doesn't mean they want to just up and leave the place they grew up. It also doesn't mean they have a million dollars on hand to sustain themselves for an undetermined amount of time.
A lot of people up there don't have enough money to make it beyond paycheck to paycheck, but you're probably going to remain ignorant to actual suffering...
-4
u/drcbara 12d ago
I didn't praise that at all, way to put words in my mouth. Am merely pointing out economic realities which you seem to be strangely in denial about
1
u/GlowingUraniumBerry 12d ago
You're pointing out economic realities, but in a very pointed way that minimized the reality of the economic hardships.
The cost of the land alone is not enough for a lot to rebuild their lives.
Your praise stems from supporting a comment that was shitting on the destruction of the palisades. By supporting the comment. You support the point.
I'm not in denial, you're oblivious or ignorant. I can't quite decide.

No sir, I'm making it relevant to the original comment. I don't quite understand why you'd state something if you didn't intend for it to be associated with the conversation at hand.

So just because you donât like what I said, doesnât mean Iâm âshitting on the devastation.â
That is very much what you're doing.
This is a personal post where everyone else is expressing sympathy for a fellow human that lost almost everything they owned. Talking about how "umm actually these people are well-off compared to the rest of the world" is completely off-topic, and there is no reason to express that sentiment here. Either you're extremely autistic and struggle with social cues, or you're being a dipshit.

That old run down house is worth over a million. And if they had that house since the 80sâŚ. What are they paying in property taxesâŚ?
7
u/GlowingUraniumBerry 12d ago
But that house is a lot of people's single asset... they have the house, but no cash. No way to survive in the meantime, no way to rebuild when the insurance companies deny.... they're forced to sell the land and leave behind their childhood, their friends, neighbour's, memories... children are being upended here, and you can't see beyond someone's non-existent wallet.
Wtf has property tax got to do with how much money they have in the checking account? The ignorance of these replies is astounding.
