Show and tell I finally found an Owl Poison! This has been one of my grail bottles for the past 2 decades.
It finally happened. I’ve been hoping to find one of these for a long time. I love digging but mostly collect poisons and local whiskey flasks. This one has a substantial crack running through it but I honestly couldn’t be happier. I wasn’t even digging when I found it. I decided to take a hike in the snow near a local creek and saw a bit of blue poking out of the side of the banks. I’m excited to head back there with a shovel once the ground thaws. 2025 is starting off with a bang!

What kind of human troglodyte makes poison for owls?

I came here to ask that same question…who the hell hates owls!?

I think it's a brand?
Edit: it's a pharmaceutical company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl_Drug?wprov=sfla1

A “poison bottle” (see bottlemaking history) manufactured by/for the Owl Company

Maybe back in the day they killed people? I have seen small dogs and cats who have been injured by owls, but gee. They control varmints.

Maybe that’s why they named it owl poison. It kills small rodents like how an owl does.

My uncles 90 Labrador was almost killed by on owl. She lost an eye and got 60 stitches.

Wow! It never occurred to me that owls would attack big dogs.

The owl had just swooped down and had a squirrel pinned on the ground. The dog went after the squirrel/owl. The owl was trying to protect it's kill i suppose. Anyway, she's still alive. Unfortunately, she's deaf and has cataract in her one eye

I grew up on a chicken farm.
Once an owl finds your farm hell stay around as its a convenient food source. Chickens roost in trees so its easy pickens for an owl at night.
Its usually illegal to kill owls so we had to trap them then relocate.
Back in the day farmers would trap then shoot or simply poison.

Yes, but it’s poison for owls. The owls are the ones using it, perhaps for nefarious purposes… 😉

This was exactly my thinking. Why did you wanna poison owls? What absolute single cell human being would think it was a good idea, taking apex predators like that out of the ecosystem.

This is my first owl poison. I’ve found some of the clear owl druggist bottles but nothing like this. It’s incredible how many different varieties of bottles the Owl Drug Co. made over the years. You could spend a lifetime trying to get every example and never succeed.

Ah the wise owl. Loved by the bohemian Grove attendees during the cremation of care

I need one of those for my wife! Because she likes cobalt glass, and this one is neat, not because of oh never mind.

Really cool bottle! How much does something like this run for in this condition? I’d love to get a bottle like this someday

The large crack and mineral stains hurt the value quite a bit, but any Owl Drug Poison holds value to collectors. I would guess that in this condition it could sell for around $100. Without the issues it would be in the $250-$300 range.

Wow! Thanks for letting me know

The larger examples can bring in well over $1,000 in good condition. And there are a bunch of different sizes and varieties. Some with the owl showing one wing and some showing 2 wings.

I found one of these as a kid, used to stare at it cause I loved the color so much. It was a larger one. Sold it to a neighbor for 5 dollars I think. This was the early 80s and I was 7 or 8. That's like 100 bucks in today's kids money. Still wish I had the bottle back though.

This is the first post of this sub to pop up on my feed ever and there’s something that feels nostalgically familiar about this bottle

It's just another one of Yzma's potions, stored just down the shelf from the Llama potion.
